My son (6) and I are going to a team epic game at the end of the month. While I know for sure he can play long enough, I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible for him. At the same time, since I'll be helping him along, I want to keep my side of it simple too. We're going to have fun and for him to have his first tournament experience, winning is not the end goal (but I'm sure he'd love one win).
The rules for this one are 200 points per player, must have at least 2 epic points in your lists, and (wonderfully) scum can run the Corvette, Transport, or Gozanti (loaded with Scyks, Z-95s, or Kihraxzs). While I would love a Scum Gozanti, with Zuckuss on board, I don't have enough of any ship to load it up. I gotta say, all the mistakes I've made in the last 7 months really help in making this a reality, but pulling a workable team epic list out of "one of each (plus a few extras)" is a challenge.
The simplest list I could figure out so far is a rebel list, we still have to test it all to see if my son can manage it. We've tried out each epic at least once at this point, and the energy management becomes an issue for my son, which lead me to think that a Transport (Rebel or Scum) as part of his list would diminish how many ships he'd have to think about.
Without further ado, the lists and reasoning:
Son's (199)
Transport (57): Bright Hope, Automated Protocols, Backup Shield Generator, Tibanna Gas Supplies, Ionization Reactor, Toryn Farr
Survivability, my son loves the reinforce action, while still having a few tricks up it's sleeve.
Dash (55): Push the limit, Title, Mangler, Engine upgrade, Kanan
Large turret (mangler has no donuts), lots of repositioning options, Kanan to clear stress. That one is obvious.
Han (65): Push the limit, Title, Engine upgrade, C3-P0, Luke
Large turrets, lots of rerolls and actions. It's very fat, but capable.
Blount (23): Assault missiles, VI, chips
I had points left over, and if my son pulls off just one massive assault missile attack, he'll flip!
Mine (200)
Poe (39): R5-P9, Push the limit (Predator?), autothrusters.
It's Poe. Without BB-8, push the limit doesn't look as good though.
Ello (35): BB-8, Predator, Integrated astromech
Dancing around, for fun and maybe profit.
Red Ace (38): R2-D2, Comms, autothrusters
It's Red Ace, the first rebel ship I found fun to fly and bringing a Ghost to Epic seemed like a horrible plan.
Wes (32): R3-A2, VI, Integrated astromech
For jumpmasters, and distributing stress where needed.
Biggs (26): R2 and integrated
It's Biggs! He'll probably just buy me a round in Epic, if that, but that's shots not on someone else.
Ezra (30): Dorsal, Nien Numb, Push the limit, Hull upgrade
This little bastard is so hard to kill!
I think I'll have enough annoying ships that people will not aim for my son's first, letting him have some more time before becoming the prime target.
That being said, Epic is something new to me, if I'm missing something painfully obvious, let me know!
