Misthunter - Impressions

By Tokyogriz, in X-Wing

I just wanted to get some Scum pilots take on the Misthunter expansion.

Is it any good? Worth getting more than 1 ship? Anyone flying more than 1 in a squad? Just haven't seen or heard much about this expansion.

Anyone using tractor beam much? Or is that going to be defender staple with new empire aces?

I do have 1 Misthunter and I need to experiment with it. I just keep loving the Ghost and Jumpmaster, lol so it never seems to get used.

Anyways Thanks.

Zuckuss can be absolutely brutal with the extra dice. I haven't even paired him with 4-LOM yet and he consistently gets the job done.

There's a lot of synergies in the recent Scum releases, especially between the Mistunter's named pilot abilities.

Can't really comment on the Tractor Beam as if Zuckuss has a shot, he's firing his primary.

I've been using Zuckess with VI and Tractor Beam as support for a pair of feedback U-boats. It's handy to be able to move Carnor or Biggs out of their spots, or move someone back into a jump master's arc. Not 100% sure I wouldn't be better off with Palob, though.

4-Lom also works rather nicely, with Zuckuss as crew. Take Stress/ Force re-roll/Pass stress off. Although not as strong as Zuckuss's nasty shots.

Ive had fun with 4lom,adv sensors, outlaw tech, predator. Having an evade, focus, and rerolls is nice. Havnt played with him lately due to 1 agi.

Speaking to using more than one: won a second G1-A as a door prize at a local, weekly mini tournament. My favorite way to squeeze two of them into a list so far has been 2x Ruthless Freelancer with Electronic Baffle, and one each of Zuckuss and 4-LOM crew. I ran them with a 35pt U-boat and a PS 3 feedback Z, went 3-2 in a Spring Kit tournament.

Overall, I absolutely love the G1-A. It has access to some of the best upgrade combinations in the game with systems, crew, and illicit. It's just a matter of finding the most efficient combos and running them with something else that can't be ignored. They're all about making your opponent make bad decisions, which I love.

I ran two G-1As at the Minneapolis Regional yesterday, and managed to get in the middle of the pack. I know I'm not the best pilot, but Zuckuss with VI, Sensor Jammer, Dengar crew, title and tractor beam got at least one five hit shot in every game. 4-LOM with Stay on Target, Advance Sensors, and Outlaw Tech was the star. Picking the wrong maneuver on purpose to double token wrecked everything except the Palob list in round 5. If I'd had a bit more practice in, I feel like I would have had a realistic shot at the cut.

Admittedly, that was partly because absolutely no one has practiced facing them.

Loads of fun!

4-lom, juke, FCS, Gonk, experimental interface

He likes Vi zuckuss tractor beaming ships into range 1 of him.

i finished 2nd in a tournament 2 weeks ago with this list going 3-1 and defeating a triple U-boat list in the finally round, the list was supposed to be more fun than competitive but i was surprised by the effeciency.

Zuckuss+Mist Hunter+Attani mindlink+FCS + Cloaking device

Guri+Attanni mindllink+AT+FCS

Palob+Attanni mindlink+TLT+Dengar

i think i was rolling 98% hits in that final round

Zuckuss is something of a sleeper hit if he can get the tokens.

A little while ago I'd have laughed at the prospect, but Scum's getting some pretty tasty synergies these days - Manaroo and mindlink, in particular, can get him token'd up and firing on all cylinders big time. Remembering you can trigger 4-LOM after seeing the enemy die roll, so the two work together well, too - shutting down focus tokens (or Soontir's Evade) can do wonders.

Just make sure the rest of your list is able to capitalise on the fact you've got a sledgehammer with no durability and a dedicated support boat. That means a closer, or even more glass hammers.

Which is to say: He's going to be an unholy terror once Scyks and/or StarVipers get patched, 'cuz there will finally be wingmen worthy of his time. ;)

It's a good ship, probably not discussed much because it's overshadowed by the U-boats.

Zuckuss is a nifty little B.F.G with good wingmates. My problem? Zuckuss' best crew candidate is...Zuckuss. 4-Lom crew is only ok in small ships. The ion penalty is not worth it unless again, you're using it in a large ship or dishing out the finishing shot.

4-LOM is Scum's sure-hit Stressbot. Equip Zuckuss crew/FCS/Crack shot and there are simply no aces that can escape his shots - provided you can catch them inside your arc.

Gand Findsman/Ruthless Freelancer works well in pairs with FCS. The Findsman+FCS is especially a perfect pair for Attani Mindlink AND Kaa'to Leeachos with missiles. Kaa'to Target locks the opponent while one of the findsman focuses. Kaa'to steals the focus and the findsman gets it back thanks to attani. Kaa'to can then shoot the missile while having 2 focus - 1 to modify the missile and 1 for defense. Complete the squadron with other pilots that can use attani and you have a wholesome squadron chock full of tokens. Have I mentioned that PS4-5 scum generics also shut down uboats?

Just an FYI but 4-Lom triggers during the "Modify Attack Die" step. So you need to choose evade or focus token before they roll the defense die.

After flying some Misthunter, I think that is the consideration. You need the title. Flying in multiples just doesn't quite work for the points cost, but on a VI Zuckuss it is just brutal. So far I am finding for the cost, better alternatives for the point cost of the Gand, or the Freelancer.

So my advice? You need only one I think. Fly the one you have and be merry. It's a great ship, even if I wish the 3 bank was white ;-)

Best build I have used is Zuckuss, VI, FCS, Title, TB, 4-LOM. 4-Lom is a use with care, but in clutch turns he is gold.

I'd love to use an outlaw tech, VI 4-lom, Advanced Sensors build, but at 34 pts for PS8, I am not sold. There are also more out there builds using Babble, but that's part of the fun. Use Zuckuss. Love Zuckuss. :-)

it's still a b-wing.

Guess what happened to B-wings? They died.

Zuckuss is something of a sleeper hit if he can get the tokens...

I imagine that's probably very true.

I've been fielding him with Manaroo, so he's never short of them.

IF you can keep it alive, Zuckuss with gunner, FCS, title/tractor beam and EPT to taste (VI or Crackshot do it for me) makes for a heck of a decision tree for a small base defender.

He shoots... with tractor beam. Uses his ability to get an extra red.

Defender has a good chance of having to decide whether to mod their rolls to avoid the tractor beam.... or face a target locked 4 (or even 5) dice attack... after they've spent tokens to mod their rolls.

But, 37 points behind one green and an evade token is a lot to work at keeping alive, unless you can offer up something nasty and tasty in preference.

4-LOM with Adv. Sensors, Outlaw Tech, and Stay on Target is pretty darn good. Particularly has you can pass the stress from SoT off at the end of the turn and do it all over again next turn.

Good work! That's a pretty clever & innovative list!

4-Lom crew is only ok in small ships. The ion penalty is not worth it unless again, you're using it in a large ship or dishing out the finishing shot.

I'll admit I've taken 4-LOM, but never found the right time to use him yet. He might work OK when you're planning a turn or two ahead and want to be doing the 1-straight the next round anyway..

They're great if you can keep them alive.

4LOM is fine - you put Zuckuss crew on him, and you then have a lot more freedom with where to move, as long as you end in r1 of someone and can shoot. ANd it's worth bearing in mind that his ability works to allow other ships on your side to clear his stress for him, as well as in an offensive capacity.

But in the end, the real problem with them is 1HP and 8 AGI, which means they die too easily.

I just run 4-LOM with Attanni Mindlink.

Got second at a store championships and ninth at regionals with it. He gets a minimum 2 actions per turn (I also had Manaroo) and I was feeding him stress using Zukcuss on Kath Scarlett. He pulled plenty of weight, often able to give that killer stress to aces that use PTL, and able to add consistent modified damage with focus/TL on the joust. Only problem is that without the title he's a little unwieldy, but for 28 points he was great value.

@Darth Evil: Love your list. I also wasn't expecting mine to do so well. I beat triple jumps in the semi finals, but when I faced them again in the finals my opponent just outflew me.

I pair two Ruthless Freelancer+ Outlaw Tech with two TLT thugs .

Works well for me so far but Zuckuss +Dengar +VI+title and TB combined with torpedo boats seems like my new favorite list .

Zuckuss can really be a beast, if u keep him alive .

Two y.wings with ion turrets, and two freelancer with tactician and fcs .. the scum control build, haven't flown it yet tho...

I've flown something broadly similar, and it just melted.

I agree that the title is good because it gives you the Barrel Roll. That helps a bit. I've mostly tinkered with Zuckuss for the firepower, but I think 4LOM is good for the stress mechanic.

One thing I've found I like to do with the Mist Hunter is have an Ion Scyk (Scyk w/ title and Ion Cannon) around for control. It's been pretty effective. The rest of the stuff can be tailored to what you want.

If you plan on using the Tractor Beam, I can see having some cheap ordnance in the rest of the list. Maybe Black Sun Soldiers with Missiles. Reduce the agility and then get the shots.

What's the best system for the Mist Hunter? I've used FCS for Zuckuss, but I wonder if Sensor Jammer isn't a good one. Or....maybe pair Sensor Jammer with Palob to grab their Focus token away. Not the synergy one is used to, but hey...

Sensor Jammer is pretty good because people really have to think about keeping that focus for defense (or using it on defense if you shoot first). FCS is the best combination of cheap and effective. Electronic Baffle is pretty good at opening up those reds, but advanced sensors is probably my favorite. With the title it allows much more maneuverability, and you can action before the red moves or before a bump.

Juke+ Sensor Jammer is fun, but you won't evade every turn. FCS would go best with gunner, but that is too tempting a target for how squishy it can be. I can't justify ever baffling. If you have the points, I'm pretty sure advanced sensors is the way to go.

Edit: It depends on crew. Bossk is an alternate FCS, K4 or Dengar waste the points of FCS, Advanced Sensors is pretty amazing with Outlaw Tech. With 4-LOM crew I could see baffle, with Zuckuss crew you really want shot modification (FCS).
