Has FFG slightly modified peg sizes ?

By LordBlades, in X-Wing

Hello,

I've been noticing a recurring problem with my pegs since wave 7 (I think) and the TFA core:

For small ships it seemed new pegs are slightly larger than the old ones (old ships don't fit well on new pegs, new ships are quite loose on old pegs).

For large ships I'm having the reverse problem: I can;t find a peg among all my large ships that fits both a JM5K and an older ship (IG88). Everything that fits fine on the Jumpmasters (probably their own pegs, as I mixed the bases) is extremely loose on the IGs and everything that fits on the IGs looks like it will crack the JM5Ks peg receptacle).

Anyone else having this problem ?

Yes they changed suppliers or something for pegs and they are bigger it's not your imagination.

It's not just a small variation either, I have pegs that I can visually see are different sizes. They will not even begin to fit the ships. It started around wave five for me, my Decimator, YT-2400 and M3-A's are the worst. And it's also the one issue I had ever contacts FFG about and pretty much been told it's not a problem. The peg issue is becoming more and more of an issue for me. The ONE thing I liked about this game was that there was no painting, modeling or what have you REQUIRED. Now when I want to get a game I have to spend time mixing and matching pegs or as FFG advised, pick up some thing I've never heard of to help hold the pegs together. I love this game and used to love FFG's customer service (been waiting on a warped Armada base replacement for over a month now) but it's really starting to make me question whether or not I want to continue throwing money at this company. Some of us who have been playing since early 2013 have way too many pegs to keep them with the ship they come with, I'd have to have another case just for pegs. This also wouldn't change the ships that wouldn't fit the pegs they came with, heres looking at you wave five, M3-A's, Tie FO's, Tie Fighters from the Gonzati, and any other loose sloppy ships I may have forgotten.

While I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with loose T-70's/TIE F/O's, It is a bit concerning.

I guess that will be a problem too then with the new colored pegs and bases coming soon.. will they only work on newer ships?

I havent noticed it yet with small ships.. but my ig's and falcon have Very different size pegs, its not a problem yet because i don't have other big ships yet and the difference is so huge i always see right away which one is for the falcon...

I keep my ships matched to the pegs that fit. Otherwise it's a nightmare to find something that isn't loose.

What are pegs? #magnetsFTW

The pegs are slightly larger. But I like them more, they're much more of a snug fit and lack the bubbles in them.

They should make old-to-new peg adapters, so we can use the new pegs on older ships!

yup. KEEP PEGS WITH THE SHIPS THEY COME WITH.

I paint my pegs and the receptor on the bottom of the ship so I know which ones go with which.

Why would you ever disassemble them? Except to swap out base plates.

Indeed (most) everything after wave 7 has the newer pegs. You will also notice that wave 7 ships and later have a tendency to have the female connector shear off the ship.

Also something to note Ghosts and Jumpmaters have bases that fit the cardboard better. The base plates for those won't fit in older styles large bases.

It actually becoming a real pain.

Why would you ever disassemble them? Except to swap out base plates.

To store them without using atleast 3x or more space?

They are expensive ships that should last a lifetime. Don't got storing them in a plastic tackle box to rattle around and wear the paint off.

KR multicase is the preferred method of storing ships.

EDIT: Not to mention constantly assembling and disassembling the pegs is going to cause them to wear.

After Wave 4 FFG had to switch manufactures. The end result is the variance in peg sizes.

I think I finally have mine sorted into a little resealable baggie for old pegs, and a separate one for new pegs. Seems to be working. I agree that the new pegs are nicer, but I also share the fear that the new colored bases won't fit the old ships. My poor Alpha Squadron Pilots! They were looking forward so much to flying in style.

My ships don't rattle around in a tacklebox.. They each have their own custom made warm soft comfortable perfect fit hole in foam. I have 1 toolbox 30% space used for my current collection, which isn't huge yet but would already need multiple of those suitcases. That same toolbox holds all needed accessories as well.. I don't need to buy a camel to drag a collection of suitcases around for me :P

The suitcase does look nice though and I guess it would save setup time. :)

All pegs post the TFO core set waves are bigger than the previous ones.

They will fit the older models but really tight. On the other hand you can hardly use the older pegs on the newer ships.

I ve marked the new pegs with a permanent market to know what goes where.

ohhhh I have to do it "That is what she said"

Well, I'm sorry to say - but I've had the exact same problem. I have noticed different sizes too, especially with the large pegs. Some of them won't even fit together I noticed (...sadly... ...). I've already broken a couple, trying to be careful, but unable to get them to fit together.
