I have been having so much success with Palob, I just had to share it! So Palob is nothing really new. He can take a focus or evade from an enemy ship at range 1-2, so naturally the opponent wants to target lock him. That's why I've always had a soft spot for Expert Handling on him, but it never turned out very well. But now Palob has some new kit, and he is AMAZING!
[31] Palob Godalhi
- Expert Handling
- Twin Laser Turret
- Dengar
As many have discovered, Twin Laser Turret is excellent on this guy. Which is really surprising, considering that his ability triggers at range 1 when he won't have a shot. Expert Handling can help! If he's lucky, he can be in a position to barrel roll out of range 1 and take his TLT shot, at the same time discarding the target lock that the opponent almost certainly placed. Likewise, if he finds himself at range 3, and he's feeling gutsy, he could barrel roll into range 2 to steal a focus or evade token. It's so brilliant! Dengar is there to make his TLT much more likely to stick against aces, and he does his job well.
So the problem is this: with such an annoying and potentially dangerous ship, how do you keep him alive? The answer is to have even scarier wingmen. Here's what I came up with.
[34] Zuckuss
- 4-LOM
- Predator
- Electronic Baffle
- Mist Hunter
- Tractor Beam
[35] Contracted Scout
- Extra Munitions
- Proton Torpedoes
- Deadeye
- R4 Agromech
- Boba Fett
- Guidance Chips
These are some hard-hitting pilots, and they almost always draw fire away from Palob. Zuckuss is usually the first to go because a) he is easier to destroy than a Scout, especially when he uses Electronic Baffle, and b) once the Scout uses his Proton Torpedoes, he doesn't do a whole lot to contribute to the squad, except some blocking. But regardless, Palob is not usually the first to be targeted, and I do my best to fly Palob in such a way that he isn't an easy target. Several of my games ended with Palob as my last pilot, and 1v1 this guy is just brutal. His ability to control range with Expert Handling gives him a lot of play in how best to mess with opponents. Good stuff! I'm currently 6-0 with this squad (or minor variants in Zuckuss' loadout), but I'll be honest - I haven't had the pleasure of facing Imperial Aces yet, and that squad might be a little much, even for Palob.
What do you think of this build for Palob? Anybody else have success with it?
P. S. LegionThree recently posted his squad that is quite similar, but there are obvious differences, but they were similar enough that I thought I'd reference it.
