And the GR-75 preview is here

By Barney, in Star Wars: Armada

firestorm games (UK) have got it up as being in stock 27th July.

July is still a possibility, but it'd have to get loaded on a boat by mid month to hit that target.

Imagine a fleet with 1 mc80 in front of 7 or 8 repair crew flotillas. The amount of repair spam would be un-counterable.

Or a fleet with 18 flotillas ALL with repair crews and they just repair each other all day long. Too bad you cannot bring ships back to life with reikan, you can only let them last another round.

If I am doing damage to a ship it is taking 2 to 3 damage per activation on average. This means that you can't repair fast enough to keep up with the damage.

It is a decent deterrent to no TRC90 fleets with basic CR90's

ATm warlords is missing the new rebel officer upgrade card :(

Fixed!

I have to salute FFG. They created a wave with only 2 ships but each is an automatic addition to play. Nearly every fleet is going to contain at least one of each. That's some good game design.

Further, the cheap squadron activations (the most efficient point per activation in the game for each faction) recalibrates the use and importance of squadrons and the squadron command. I felt Rogue undermined non-rogue squadrons unless a fleet was specifically built for them (i.e. Rhymerball / bomber lists). This reestablishes combat squadrons as the primary tool and makes the extra points for the Rogue trait look a little too expensive. Rogues may move last (which could be a positive or negative, of course) but if you don't have a plan to activate them in the ship phase they may not be around for their turn.

Also:

"There are just two expansions in the third wave..." LOL Looks like FFG has been reading the forum.

Yeah I'm glad they finally put the "surely they will have more SKUs" nonsense to rest. I wish I had actually gone ahead and gotten some people to bet me real money on that...

On another note, a person I know in the games industry was talking to an FFG rep and was told basically what I was suspecting all along: FFG was overwhelmed with upcoming projects and decided to cut down wave 3. On the plus side, he was told there are a TON of new ships waiting in the wings.

I think it behooves them to make targets and hit them. Even at the loss of full blown waves. And ultimately it's more fun to have Christmas come twice a year instead of once, so to speak.

Definitely helps prevent a stale mood.

Sure. Frankly if they had announced a 4 or 6 SKU wave and then pushed it back over and over and over it would have been more damaging to the community and faith in the game than a 2 ship wave with high impact to the meta. However, neither are ideal tbh.

Heck, a Sensor Teams Gladiator can kill one of these with ease.

But then you're not taking Ordnance Experts and you are losing a die worth of damage. You still need 4 more to kill at close range which means you need two natural hit/crits to kill. That's a tall ask without rerolls. I could see Sensor Glads in a Vader list though. Glad 2s to give the red for an acc out the side and extra AA. More of a support role Gladiator. If only I could have Ruthless strategist as well as the sensor teams... :/

I can see the expanded use of concentrate fire tokens to fish for that accuracy on a lot of ships as well as adding ET for double-ram possibilities. I wouldn't be surprised to see CR90B/ET/SW7 as a flotilla hunter.

As much as I'm down on the MC-80, even I will admit that Home One just got way better.

Guaranteed accuracy is going to be a must to smush all these flotillas into a soft, even paste for cooking.

Is anyone else sort of concerned about where these tiny ships could drive the game? I'm thinking fleets like Demolisher and 300 points of Gozantis, or two MC30s and the rest in Transports, purely to pad out the activations and allow the one heavy hitter in the list to double/triple tap every turn?

Like, they add a lot of cool new tricks to the game, but I worry that the best trick they will provide will simply be 18 point activations...

Two words: General Cracken.

At that point your swarm is useless.

Additionally a great part of the reason that Clonsisher fleets are good is that the raiders are legitimate threats on their own. They aren't things you can just completely ignore.

Oh wow, good point! I didn't even think of Cracken shutting down red dice Gozantis.

red dice gozantis + tractor beams. problem solved haha

why hasn't Ard liked this yet???

I was going to, but then I saw you asking and changed my mind. :)

Not sure on the value of the SW90 in killing these. Accs are everything on the little guys. I wonder... maybe SW90 with an IO? "You gonna scatter the first 3-dmg shot, or the second one?"

Still wouldn't quite 1-activation it without a ram or a lucky crit though. I guess Dodonna could fish for a decent chance at SD for that last damage, but still not great odds there. Hmmm...

Also, Bright Hope and/or Cracken will crush this approach.

Coming very very soon on the intergalaxy Armada Warlords broadcast channel

link to this podcast please. I mean I like IFF but it would be nice to have alternatives.

He was talking about his fleet builder, Armada Warlords.

That said, if you are looking for another podcast, Armada Jim does one too, called Fire When Ready. It's a pretty different format from IFF, but also very good. FWR is shorter, focused, and scripted; IFF is long, broad, and seat-of-Dano's-pants.

I love that so many people are thinking about how to kill these things. You know what you're not doing when you shoot flotillas? Shooting ships that really matter. That's the beauty of these things. You can't afford to ignore that 25 point little bastard with slicer tools, but you have to pass up other threats to do so. Even then, you could end up wasting an entire arc on a scatter. THIS WAVE IS SO AWESOME!

I never thought of it that way Truthiness. But that's absolutely the issue these generate. Pretty nify catch 22 these create.

H9 Neb. Dead Flotilla.

Simple. Dont chase them, but if they happen to come into range...

Its entirely the point we (at least, Truthiness and I, and a few others) have been making vs the Demolisher Bum-Rush...

Hmm.

My want list just went from '2 Gozanti and 2 GR75' to '2 Gozanti and 3 GR75'.

I shall be using my Mel's BFF bulk freighter as a GR75 with the Bright Hope upgrade.

I am happy, this will be a very nice release.

I am thinking Quantum Storm makes a hell of an Admiral chariot, too. Just have to be careful with it against rogue squadrons.

Except for Assault Frigates, which can't be tractored by Gozantis.

Or MC30s, where the hardest part of driving the ship is the massive f'ing downshift you need when you get into range. Oh no, don't throw me into the briar patch and/or tractor beam that MC30 that's about to go ripping past you after only a single round of shooting.

Tractor beams are far more of a double edged sword than people think.
