Custom Card League starting soon

Hi Everyone,

Have you ever had a really great idea for a new card, but never had a chance to try it out on the tabletop? Your chance to do exactly that is rapidly approaching!

Starting on May 15, submissions will be accepted for the first Custom Card League in X-wing. Submissions for upgrades, pilots, and even custom ships will be accepted, and will undergo selection and development by the community (details to come on May 15). The ultimate result will be a set of brand-new cards designed, developed, and approved by the community.

These cards will then be implemented into an add-on module for vassal, and there will be a vassal tournament in which every list will be required to contain at least one custom card. Prize support will consist of at least one custom-painted small ship for the winner.

If you’re interested in submitting custom cards for this competition, start brainstorming now. The first round of development will be for custom ship designs – all custom ship designs, with generic pilots (but not unique pilots) will be finalized before the first round of submissions for upgrade and pilot ship cards ends. So if you plan to submit a custom ship design, I suggest that you start thinking about it now!

You can "go to plaid" if you pick max speed forward. This means you move the same max speed forward again. You deal yourself a damage card and become stressed.

Not sure if this is the best, or worst idea I have seen for a custom card....

I do plan to have a clause where I can exclude extremely out-of-universe cards, like a 'pilot mcpilotface'. But I do love this frickin movie.... decisions....

EPT 3 Points

Shake - Action: You may perform a Free Barrel Roll Action, if the ship does not have the barrel roll action get 1 stress. Remove one Target lock from this ship. When this action is used, flip this card.

Bake - Action: You may perform a Free Boost Action, if this ship does not have the boost action receive 1 stress. After Performing the boost, if there is a ship in arc at range 1 you may acquire a free target lock on that ship. When this action is used, Flip this card.

Make this card Small base only

EPT 3 Points

When you perform a Boost action if there is a friendly ship out of arc at range 1 of you if there is you may discard this card to perform a free SLAM action you receive a stress token instead of the Weapons Disabled Token.

O'Pra Skyfury 5 point Crew.

when ever you perform an action that gives you a token give a copy of that token to all ships at range 1-3

Givinex Starfighter In Bound!

I have some material from the reddit create-a-ship competition. Think the ship is a good bit outclassed by the Jumpmaster now, and the titles are useless without the ship (and far too similar to Attani Mindlink as is), but the rest of the upgrade cards I still have a lot of pride in. Maybe not the Twin Repeater Cannon, though. I had a lot of trouble with the idea, and I'd probably scrap that or keep working on it if I had more time.

But the missiles, Automatic Sealup, and Signal Scrambler I still think are actually pretty fantastic.

I think you will need a clear cut off date as well as a cut off for the amount of upgrades/pilots/ships. Without one, I can see this being one of those projects that is very fun to build, but never gets completed. Just my 2 cents.

Awesome! I figure there will be a lot of content that people have already cooked up, that is more or less ready to submit.

As to your point about cutoff dates, I agree and was already planning on doing just that. There will be clear cutoff dates for each step of the process.

Snap shot (EPT)4 points

Give up the ability to focus your attack, for the ability to attack NOW before the oppnent arcdodges.

Non-unique Title, T-65 X-wing Only:

'Workhorse', 0pts.

'If you equip a modification card, it's squad point cost is reduced by 4 (to a minimum of 0).'

Non-unique Modification, Dual Upgrade card:

'Advanced Deflectors', 4pts?

SIDE 1: 'When defending against a ship inside your firing arc, during the compare results step you may cancel an additional hit result (to a minimum of 1). You cannot equip this card if your shield value is 1 or lower.'

SIDE 2: 'When defending against a ship outside your firing arc, during the compare results step you may cancel an additional hit result (to a minimum of 1). You cannot equip this card if your shield value is 1 or lower.'

Non-unique Title, T-65 X-wing Only:

'Rogue Squadron Pilot', 0pts.

Just some fun ones I've been thinking of.

Cool ideas; I especially like the use of the new upgrade card setups (dual-sided like Adaptability, multi-slot like the Emperor).

I expect to see a bunch of 'fix' style cards for the x-wing and other needy ships. It'll be interesting to see what makes it through the first round of voting and ends up going to the tournament at the end!

I can't claim the idea for the dual upgrade one. I'm pretty sure I saw it somewhere else; this is just my version that goes with the X-wing mod reducer.

Fanblade Deflector Shielding, modification 2pt: when you reveal a non-red maneuver choose one of the following: combat mode- you may fire using your aux arc, on a green maneuver gain 1 shield token (max of 2); OR silhouette mode- increase your agility by 1, gain an evade token, you may not use your aux arc.

Last Call, title 1pt: Your upgrade bar gains the systems slot and the illicit slot. After the last ship is placed during the deployment phase, you may make any 1 maneuver on your ships dial.

Prototype, title -1pts: If you field only 1 Givinex Starfighter in your squadron, and equip no upgrades to this ship you reduce it's squadron cost by 1.

Same base cost as the TAP, with a significantly better dial, (arguably) better upgrade slot, and wider arc? Think you need to probably bump that cost up at least 2 points.

Maybe. I was actually aligning it with it being 1 more point than the awing at the loss of boost (and therefore autothrusters) and a better dial and the cool arc which just kinda offsets the need for boost. I don't think the dial crazy better since it's just more red move options. I also think scum needs a solid ship between Zs and Uboats. You could run it naked at 15 (with prototype title) for more green dice and a better dial than a Z, that didn't work out for the Scyk at 14.

Also, what PS to start with? That nails down points a little clearer too. Trying to decide if PS 1 is too big a bonus as a blocker... could start at 2 and have prototype title remove 1PS and bump the base cost up 1.

I could see this being 2pts above a refit Awing and 1 above the naked TAP but since it's not in either of those factions and it quickly gets more expensive when you add Mod + title + crew it doesn't compare as well as I'd like. Since the contest/submissions don't start for a week I was just throwing out a starting point.

This was also thought out before 5x awings started winning big tournaments so... at least a point with a PS 2 start...let others weigh in and see the busted combo for scum that I'm sure is there.

Sounds like a ship that could fill the light attack agile ship niche that Scyks were probably meant to occupy. But the Aux arc is a serious advantage that should be pricey. Interesting ship overall!
