Imp Ace Suggestions

By brownj23, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have a list pretty well defined but I am trying to finalize which 32 point ace is best:

Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
The Inquisitor (25)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
TIE/v1 (1)
Valen Rudor (22)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Autothrusters (2)
TIE/v1 (1)
Total: 94
I am trying to decide between one of these 3 as my last ace. I have 32 points left in the list and the 31 pt pilots would give me a 1 pt init bid which might be useful. I love Soontir but can't find 3 more points to get him the SD, and I am not sure how survivable he will be without SD.
Thoughts?

Without knowing what is in the rest of your list, and choosing between these three... I would go Inquisitor. With PTL, he is a pretty decent arc dodgers, but his ability to operate at slower speeds and work the edges and plink make him versatile and adaptable to many different scenarios.

I second that. For 32 points, the Inquisitor (and an initiative bid) is probably the best you can get.

Yup. Of the three builds listed you'll get the most mileage from the Inquisitor. Plus it's just so much fun never having to worry about how far away the target is from you. Just roll and watch the other guy sweat. :)

Soontir is no good without autothrusters + stealth device in my opinion because of the synergy. If you can, I'd recommend finding a way to free up those three points for the title and stealth device. Otherwise, go with the other suggestions, as I know nothing about the prototype.

Of the three I would go The Inquisitor. However, I would also consider Carnor Jax because his pilot ability is really so helpful. Think of either of these two builds for him;

Carnor Jax + Push The Limit + Autothrusters (31)

Carnor Jax + Veteran Instincts + Autothrusters + Stealth Device / Hull Upgrade (32)

Both of these builds to get him into range 1 and keep him alive as long as possible to get as much use out of his pilot ability as possible. Against certain opponents that don't rely on focus / evade it's better to stay at range 3 if possible and play him like Soontir. The first build tries to maximise his ability to complete his task by using Push The Limit to provide the action economy he needs. The second build tries to specifically target enemy aces like Soontir using Veteran Instincts to react to their movements accordingly.

Of those three, and with only 32 points to spend, Inquisitor, but there's also a strong argument for Omega Leader if you don't already have him. I'm sure you can spend those three points somewhere else.

Or heck, a 3 point bid served me well at the MK regionals.
