Star Wars games recommendations (Steam 77% discount?)

By Elkerlyc, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Clue in the title. :)

Which games would you recommend?

Note I have a grand total of ZERO (SW) PC games atm.

My preferences tend to be tactical games with the occasional rpg and strategy ones...

If you recommend a game; please tell WHY you like it.

That really helps to narrow down if it is a game for me as well.

(or perhaps anyone else reading this topic)

Jedi Acd because a lot of people are still playing MP and Lightsabers are amazing.

KOTOR is a master piece and still is outstanding it is 90% plus approval.

it is one of the best RPG that has been made ever.

Battlefront 2 is such a great game, it covers all of Star Wars prior to ep7. It has ship battles and flying is very good. It does not feel too dated. The ground battles feel good and it has a ton of content. The single player story is outstanding and glax conquest is so much fun.

This is a must buy.

X-wing Vs Tie fighter is a ship combat sim that is tough as nails and beautiful, you will love it as there is nothing like it for Star Wars if you want to fly ships in space. It feels a bit dated and is tough. It does crash a lot on modern systems if that was not a concern then I would say get it.

How about "STAR WARS™ Knights of the Old Republic™ II - The Sith Lords™"

Worth adding if you buy KOTOR?

If you like Tactical games, You can't beat Republic Commando. Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are also pretty good, with good stories, and JKA has active multiplayer. On RPG side, Kotor and Kotor 2 are absolute masterpieces. Strategy wise, Empire at War is pretty good as well as Star Wars Battlegrounds (which is essentially Age of Empires 2 but Star Wars)

Republic Commando is fantastic.

The X-wing series of games are a MUST HAVE but you REQUIRE a joystick for most of them. Literally, as a hardware requirement.

X-Wing Alliance has the best ship variety, a decent online presence and an updated set of models that fans have made. You need a ~$20 joystick, but it is totally worth it.

You NEED a joystick for these no?

(which is a bummer imo)

Joysticks are cheap and you can't die before playing tie fighter, x-wing starts good but the mission difficulty curve is way off and you'll never see the trench run without cheat codes.

Dark forces 3:Jedi knight 2 is another must, academy is good but never matched jk2.

Avoid rebel assault.

If you would recommend one in the series; which one?

(Tempted to buy a joystick; the lure of playing an x-wing or tie-fighter sim is strong...)

Tie fighter is my favorite for obvious reasons, x-wing alliance is also good.

You mean "STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition"

or

"X-wing vs Tie fighter?"

I enjoyed Galactic Battlegrounds, for a strategy game. Empire At War is also another decent option. Not sure if Rebellion is on Steam or not, but that is my favorite SW strategy game.

lolwut? Good ELS control and situational awareness = you will probably be killing a star destroyer a mission after completing your main objectives.

Bare in mind old chum we are old hands at these games, for the newer pilot tie fighter with its easy mode is the better introduction.

I suppose I can't deny that having played the game for 23 years I do fly it better, and it's true that the game is "nintendo hard" as it's from that era, where games really actually were hard. Still though, joystick, understanding of ELS, and situational awareness.

TIE Fighter is a game of Starfighter Battles. X-wing is a puzzle game in space. Being efficient at dispatching TIES helps a lot, but you gotta know which targets to go for first.

Remember that one mission, with the corvette and Bomber? or X-wing historical 5?

There's a x-wing game shown on youtube. Punch up x-wing tabletop simulation. Looks very much like FFGs X-Wing. Anyone have an idea what this may be?

It's not x-wing specific it's a game that simulates the table top and others make mods for it, damned if I can remember the name though.

Vassal? Tabletop Simulator?

Vassal? Tabletop Simulator?

Whilst I loved X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, XvT games .. The one I still play is X-Wing Alliance. Solely because of the graphics upgrade. Don't let needing a joystick stop you .. it really is worth it.

If they could remake Dark Forces using the SW Battlefront graphics it would be incredible.

KOTOR 1 & 2 have to be the best RPGs out there. Particularly when you first get your lightsabre. Great story, great action, characters, etc. Also, if you like them, check out Jade Empire too (not SW though). Note, the newest addition to that series is the online MMO SW:The Old Republic which is free to play. I had a lot of with that game but does get a bit grindy after a while.

Empire at War and Rebellion are SW strategy games that my friends rave about. That genre is not really my jam though. FFG just produced a board game version of the latter.

Vassal? Tabletop Simulator?

I think it's TableTop Simulator. I found the demo on YouTube but no additional info. Looked like a nice alternative to vassal.

Are you heroes talking about the squad benchmarking game maybe?
