Character pros cons combos and common rule errors .

By jimmyfield, in Talisman

Hello talisman community . I'm starting a project which may have been done before and if not ! Why not .

It's consists of each characters pros and cons , combos and common rules errors in a quick format style that new and old players alike will find useful.

Has this been done or is being done ? And as a community would people be willing to help ?

My group has 3 expansions still to collect and we have 60 characters .

Who else would find this helpful and like to help ?

Cheers guys .

Good idea would love to help.

Count me in. :) I have all the expansions, and all 69 characters. I was actually considering doing aproject with the cards, but I'm not sure what I want to do yet.

Ok great guys . Would require a brief description of each character , which stat is best for building up in , strengths and weaknesses start / mid / end game . Good cards that make a character stronger or more effective and possible rule errors or cards that don't work like people may think . If everyone in the community picked a character and posted about them , then it would be really quick , then they could be altered and put into a set format .

Character name -

Preferred stat -

Pros -

Cons -

Best objects / combos -

Best / worst expansion -

common rule errors -

I was envisioning a rating system such as a 1-10 point scale for each trait, i.e. starting Strength/Craft is a trait, Fate, Special Abilities, Starting Space.

OVERALL: (combined average of below traits)

STATS: (I'd rate high strength builds to be better suited for this game and high Craft builds to be the weaker with neutral builds to be average, UNLESS the character says 'Can Use Craft Instead of Strength'; also 7-stats instead of 6, etc.)

FATE: (lowest I think I've seen is 2, highest I've seen is 5, but I could be wrong on both)

SPECIAL ABILITY ONE: (how useful is it)

SPECIAL ABILITY TWO:(how useful is it) (more than two special abilities would increase the OVERALL per, and less than two would decrease it by one)

STARTING SPACE: (generally speaking, this shouldn't be much of an issue unless you start off in the Inner Region, which could set you at a distinct disadvantage)

IMO, this could give some ideas toward which characters are clearly op and which ones are weaker. Combined with your COMBO idea, it would make for some interesting meta-data.

Yeah I really like that idea , the rating system combined with a combo system . Also the rules clarification is important for me as with most new players they get confused with a warrior holding 2 flails and the Minotuar with a riding horse etc etc . Some adding these in will help clarify just how useful a character and his ability to use certain items could be.

Example character

Minotaur

Overall - 6

Stats - strength 8/10 craft 4/10 fate 4/10 life 9/10

Ability 1 - 8/10 ability to add your movement too to your attack in combat .

Ability 2 - 0/10 can't use armour

Starting space - crags 5/10 still affected by crags if you re visit at later stage .

Combos and card rules - works well with the riding horse , does not add both dice together when determining combat bonus , but you get the choice of 2 which could result in a good combat bonus.

My points system for out of ten is as follows.

2 points for each stat up to 4 , 9 for 5 and for the rare 6 stat char a 10

And for abilities 0 if it's bad then use best judgement going around 5-7 unless exceptionally good .

And for starting location 5/10 if it's just generic , more for inner locations and 8+ for dwarf / troll abilities removing rolls on crags etc

Combos and card rules - works well with the riding horse , does not add both dice together when determining combat bonus , but you get the choice of 2 which could result in a good combat bonus.

I don't think the Minotaur can use 1 die from the riding horse? But the new steam engine will be good.

When he fights using a riding horse he only gets 1 of dice to add on not the total amount .

Those seem pretty extensive and complete so this project seems already done ! Thanks guys z

I believe you are in error there I'm afraid. No stampeding if using a Riding Horse.

@Wandering Wiz;

thank you for those links! That's exactly what I was envisioning, and I think what op was looking for!
