My experience has told me that if you have cards in your graveyard, use Black magic to get them back.

Not even Major Rhymer is wholly buried. He's still loads of fun with PTL, APTs, EM and mk2.Advanced Homing Missiles are even cheaper and really disturbingly good with the Major. Range 1-3 on a shield-piercing weapon makes incredibly good use of his ability, and it only needs a target lock to get a modified shot, meaning something like crack shot is available.
I love using Rhymer. AHM (maybe x2), GC, EM, Deadeye. AHM don't discard the TL, so you still have it to mod, and GC for even more. It's very rare for me that he doesn't get all his ordance off before death or game ends.

Give him fleet officer and/or system officer and he can offer alot to a squad.Captain Jonus: His ability cannot compete with guidance chips or long range scanners
Red Line: When having FCS and guidance chips, his ability is now more or less worthless
Jonus also still has his old lease on life, honestly. Guidance chips and Long-Range Sensors both combine quite gracefully with his ability.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
Someone had to say it.

This is the big one: if you're giving up Guidance Chips for Long-Range Scanners, you're going to want a way to modify your ordnance rolls.
So.....are we talking about dead to tournament play? Or just never worth taking ever? I say nothing is never worth taking ever, but lots of stuff are dead to tournament play.
Evasive is pretty hard to find a use for, though.

Fel's wrath is eternally fun vs corran horn. Having seen him explode in the end phase to a doubletap, and live to fly another round, killing corran horn. One of the Sweetest moments in this game. Fly him enough, and find he has some use - he gains the ""deterrent"" ability - which often reads, shoot at a different target, I'm low priority. I've seen players opt for firing on academy pilots over wrath.
I have a few basic tenets for x-wing, and one is that target priority and control is an important part of list building. Wrath is super niche. Hyper Competitively, I agree, he's dead due to so many stronger choices at 23 points. But casually and even small store champ levels, he can work. Especially in a squad where you want something low priority, high offense.
For fun, try fear no wrath someday.

Generic phantoms are not even close to the grave. They give lots of options and if ignored will wreck your day. They force your opponent to make decisions and that is always good.
FFG will find away to resurrect any dead cards/ships... eventually.
Zombie Upgrades, etc.
He still has a place in Epic. He is an awesome force-multiplier for a Raider tooled up with multiple secondary weapons.Captain Jonus: His ability cannot compete with guidance chips or long range scanners
I'm sure someone can turn him into a Tie Shuttle and use something like Fleet Officer on him. Then, put him in a list with 2 Tie Defenders with Cannons.

And a Rebel Captive, just to put people off attacking him. Because the last thing you want is to stress yourself when you're being attacked by Ion Cannon Defenders.

Partly it's because I really want Scum to get an A-Wing/Interceptor of their own... and this really doesn't feel up to the job yet.

Ion Cannon Hvy Scyk isn't bad at all.
Serrisu isn't bad when used in the right list. She's not best with lots of allies nearby. She's good with one or two important allies nearby. I think at least one person won a Store Championship with Serrisu.
Atuni Mindlink is also something that can make Scyks alright. If they can get that free Focus, then Evade....with 3 green dice, they are harder to kill than you would think.
Jonus is still alive and well, and redline certainly is. I agree that Jonus flying a tie shuttle is the way to go, and can be the center of a devastating Alpha strike that just might be able to out U-boat the uboat.
Jonus with fleet officer along with two or 3 scimitars or gammas with LRS and homing missles (so you get to keep the lock) could give U-boats a run for their money and string some mines out (or bombs) as they pass for the K-turn.
I'm gonna have to start a new thread for this....

I have found that a Mindlinked is way better than anything else on a Syck. I've ran a TPV with a Mangler and Mindlink a few times now it put in some serious work. I avoid approaching anything head on and I use slow banks/turns + barrel roll to avoid arcs is possible or just take the evade with mindlinked focus if I can't get out of arc. He is tough to hit and packs a punch with Mangler.
Sycks in general are too expensive, in the right list they can be good, but they will be harder to fly than other options.
My list is "dead in a competitive sense". It may be revived later, they may be good in other formats, but for 100 point squadron battles in a tournament setting? Taking them is equivalent to saying, "I'm so good, I don't NEED to bring good ships."
The problem with that kind of arrogance is what happens when you meet another player who is good AND brings good ships. To misquote Han Solo, "Good against scrubs is one thing. Good against the top cut? That's something else."
Bringing PS5 Phantoms into a meta that's still ruled by the likes of Vader, Omega Leader, Soontir, Brobots, RAC, with Inquisitor, Tycho, and Poe rising in use? Or even Triple-JMs where a Bumpmaster is a common third add? Just seems damfoolish to me.

He doesn't need to compete with anything. Put him in a squad with all that. Recently been fielding Jonus with Crack and tracer, with a 3 gamma squad with chips torps and bombs and EM. absolutely beautiful. On those turns you get just one hit he still gives you a reroll.
I'm going to call any 1 agil ship with less than 9 HP dead now.

Imagination is an undervalued quality in competitive X-wing, and that's all I'm going to say on that issue.

I made it to the top 8 bringing two PS 5 Phantoms in February. Was my first store champ too. Now that U-Boats are around, it's even better to have the bump in PS.
*edit: Thought I'd add that the reason I brought the PS 5's were because I thought Shadow sounded cooler than Sigma. Play what's fun for you, and learn to win with it; don't play what wins, then learn to have fun with it.
Edited by rabid1903The uboats are exactly why I said the ps5 phantom might be good now. Reliably deal 11 or so damage before PS3. You got room for one more ace or heavy hitter.
I think preferably some ordnance blast.
Vader with prockets or something.
For competitive truly competitive top level play though I think a good 90% of stuff is literally not viable.
Heck. Currently right now you can make a very good argument that a proliferation of PS3 uboats with ordnance totally invalidates the competitiveness of TLT y
I would disagree with that. 90% IS competative at top level but it has to be flown right. If you just alpha strike and fly in straight lines NO build will win. There has to be a certian amount of creativity involved in this game that has the potential to make anything viable.

I highly disagree. But I am also too lazy to prove my point.
I have a feelling we won't see Munitions Failsafe after chips and long range scanners.
