I love that Lucas gave us celebrations on Coruscant in the special editions. Like the Imperials just magically disappeared when the 2nd Death Star exploded.

At least the Rebels did more in the movies than in an actual game of rebellion. Cardboard counter now moved past the other cardboard counter even though the only thing the rebels did was evacuated their base 3 times.

I always asumed massive riots took place and overthrew whatever imperial presence remained on Coruscant.
Still: one more thing the special editions effed up...
Edited by Robin GravesI'm a few chapters into the audiobook and I'm enjoying it. The narrator is the some one as The Perfect Weapon. It's a little wonky b/c her C3P0 and Han are (obviously) really different from Marc Thompson's.

The new order and la resistance made peace,
Kylo Ren got out of puberty, dropped the emo tantrums,
and formed a new temple along with Rey.
The Temple of the United Force teaches a balanced path
between light and dark side.
There are no more Sith or Jedi
There is only peace.
And Han came back to, because, if Darth Maul could, then so can he! The end.

She wasn't, Leia remembered her mother and babies don't form long term memories when they have just been born.
So padme clearly can't be their mother.

I would pay money to see that crossover. Master Force Users who can shoot fire out of their finger-tips 
On the bright side, at least the new timeline doesn't have Emperor Palpatine coming back to life six years after Return of the Jedi.
So new disney EU is even more crappy than the late njo and vong eu? hurray for that, but at least there is now indeed room for the thrawn trilogy. 24 years of room. The deals basically with the best of the EU and leaves out the worst of the old eu.
Separatist movement gaining strength again is no big surprise, the prequels made this very clear, it an old issue of the republic that will not go away with the Sith and it has been used more than once by others to their advantage.
Clone Wars -> 30 years peace -> Civil War -> 30 Years -> Whatever we will call this war.
French Revolution -> 15 years -> Napoleonic wars -> 30 years -> Crimean War -> 20 years -> Franco-Prussian war -> 40 years peace -> WW1 -> 20 years peace -> WW2 -> 20 years standoff -> Cold War / arms race / culminating in the early 80's -> fracturization wars (collapse of Yugoslavia, collapse of Middle East) (That's just the major, geopolitical defining wars, the US Civil War for instance had little effect on a global scale).

For that part specifically, I believe they already knew before this book in a comic. I'm not 100% sure though.
Spoilers below from the book, with some more broad story arcs that seem to blend together:
Sorry I don't have specifics on the names, I listened to the audiobook version and I don't hold onto the names too well.
Leia's official royal title for her house needs to have some sort of ceremony or something, but Leia doesn't care for the title because it has no power anyways. She was talking about formally disolving the title, but instead offers it to an ambitious senator who has some claim to it. This senator has a focus on class so she's all for it. Inside the royal treasury, she discovers a music box belonging to Leia (who owned it as a child and believed it was destroyed with aalderan) left there by her father (not biological), Bail Organa. After the music box plays, it contains a message from Bail with the standard "if you're listening to this it's because I'm dead" stuff. There, he reveals to Leia her true parents. He also says to her (in the message she never received) NOT to seek out Luke until AFTER Vader and Palpatine are dead.
All this time, Leia has been secretly investigating a hidden crime organization of fairly immense power. She discovers that they're also forming a militia could be strong enough to cause major problems for the New Republic. She senses something amiss still because it seems like someone else is funding the whole operation. What she doesn't find out, even by the end, is that the First Order is secretly funding this cartel to be used as a shock force. But Leia sneaks into their headquarters and Han comes to the rescue and end up blowing their base up, killing the cartel's leader and the militia.
During the story, the senate is bogged down with themselves. Leia is looking at running for what they call First Senator to prevent a centrist (someone who likes a centralized powerful government) from becoming First Senator. The other side of the senate are called Populists, who believe in a decentralized govt. The holo message is then released to the senate to discredit Leia's chances at becoming First Senator, and more importantly, BEFORE Ben knows the truth about Vader.
So Leia pulls out of the running, and the populist nomination goes to one of her friends who declares to Leia that if elected, he plans to do nothing with the position. That's the final proof for Leia to see that nothing will change. Knowing there's still something wrong, Leia decides to call upon her closest friends (like Ackbar) to form the Resistance.
The book ends with the centralist worlds planning to secede from the Republic.
