Clone Wars ships: A fourth faction?

By Kumagoro, in X-Wing

Would you like to see ships and pilots from the Clone Wars era in the game? I definitely would.

And maybe not immediately, but I think FFG might be willing, or forced, to go there eventually. For the time being, they have the new films coming out, and that's swell. But how many new ships can they get from those? Chances are the films will be pretty conservative about featuring new ships, because they aim at giving the audience what they already know and like, so not so many never-before-seen designs from the EU (in the case of the anthology series) or outright new ones (in the case of the sequel trilogy).

Whereas, Clone Wars is canon, and still a bankable property for Disney, even linked to their current show (via Ahsoka) and still available to stream or buy. And there's a LOT to be mined from there, once FFG will get to the point where their options for new products will be limited, at least as far as things that actually appeared on a screen (and Disney cares about) go.

Problem is: how can you introduce those ships? Back then the conflict was between the Republic and the Separatists. Now, the latter ceased to exist with the rise of the Empire, and could be maybe added as a sub-faction of Scum & Villainy. But the Republic, that was essentially the proto-Empire, and yet they were Jedi-helmed, and Palpatine's (secret) enemies.

So I think they could warrant the future introduction of a new faction altogether. It's not that this game doesn't already do a lot of time travel paradoxes anyway. Think about how cool would be to get Anakin Skywalker pilot and Ahsoka pilot, both for their Jedi fighters and their shuttle. And Obi-Wan Kenobi, for god's sake! And Asajj Ventress with her gorgeous fighter (that would be in the Separatist sub-faction, of course). They even had a large ship with cloaking device. It would bring a lot to the game while completing the series of main characters from movie/TV properties.

What do you think?

no

also definitely no to another faction; seems utterly unnecessary

now scum/villainy stealing the cooler prequel ships is aokay in my book

oh

this thread again

Actually, going with the "everything old is new again" slogan, I wouldn't be entirely against seeing an updated Y-Wing design. Over-hauled from the ground up; new weapons, new engines, modified chassis. Maybe work in an S-Foil feature? Place the engines tighter to the body for cruising, and have them extend and slant back (similar to what BSG did with the landing pods) for improved maneuvering in combat.

Move the mounting of the turret to the underside of the fighter, add concussion tubes to the side body (revealed when the engines extend).

I mean, look at the difference between the television Enterprise, the first movie Enterprise, and the reboot Enterprise. Just apply that to the Y-Wing.

If they need to reboot the game then I think Clone Wars era would be a good idea.

The same could be said for the Scum faction.

Nothing is unnecessary. Things done well are good, that's all.

Yes to clone wars era ships.

New factions I could go either way. I love the ships from that era, but it would be nice to have familiar pilots go with them which would only happen with new factions.

And yes the time period differences mean nothing now that tfa ships are in the game.

No. No prequel nonsense. No new faction(s).

considering how few scum ships are actually competitively viable, yes the same could be said for the scum faction

the amount of effort required to make an entire new action when the ones available have yet to be equalized is just wasteful

NO PREQUEL SHlT

Never!

It wouldn't sell very well, but there are certainly some Separatist or Trade Federation remnants lurking out there somewhere.

And how about the Mining Guild?

The more factions the merrier!

"The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."

I'd like to see them at some point, but as always many people will remain opposed to the idea. There are some very cool and interesting ships from that era, and more than enough of them to justify full factions for them.

Yes, it totally wouldn't sell, because people only buy the ships they know and love, so while they gladly pay for TIE Phantom, K-wing, JumpMaster 5000, G3-A Interceptor, VT-49 Decimator, ships from the goddamn movies won't be selling well.

They don't need to in the foreseeable future, so I doubt they will until Disney returns to the Prequel era. Wouldn't be surprised if they never do though, their canon wipe has turned the gap between 4 and 5 and the 19 years between 4 and 3 into a huge wealth of potential material. They've also got the 30 years between 6 and 7 and the infinite amount of time after 7.

No to them being a fourth faction.

Yes to seeing some of the cool "ERA" ships. Likely as part of the Scum and Villainy. My two favourites being the P-38 and V-Wing. Former was seen piloted by Cad Bane in the series. Wouldn't mind Bane Pilot and/or crew.

NO PREQUEL SHlT

just the good prequel stuff then?

:P

Prequel era won't be introduced to x-wing because the faction alignment is impossible to translate. The Rebel Alliance != The Republic != The Empire.

Prequel era ships on the other hand..

We already have prequel era ships and pilots in X-Wing and if they come up with a reasonable explanation to add more then fine by me. I wouldn't mind seeing an ARC-170, for example, but then they'd better figure out which faction it would belong to and why.

What if... they aren't making Prequel ships because Disney's remaking them?

(Please let that be the case).

Maybe introduce dual faction ships? Star Trek Attack Wing has them, and they seem fine :)

QS =D

Question,

How do you make this era exciting and other then Ob and Little Ophen Annie name a pilot that you would be exciting to play? (The other two you list which would be Jedi repeat, Jedi repeat which would be hard to have 3 other pilots in the ships and make it feel correct) plus how would you do Druids?

That's the problem it's boring and not many care about it and would be miss step vs going forward with new ships and canon.

Think of the raider and how FFG created it, it feels good and fits. I don't think we can have something as fun going backwards. With the cannon being remade I am excited about new and unknown. Plus with 5 new movies coming new ships are going to happen soon.

Wouldn't mind seeing a few of the better designs pop up as S&V but we don't need a 4th faction.

Sorry but I hate people with this attitude. I am a huge fan of the EU, so these ships are just as iconic to me as the X-wing or Y-wing. Sorry that you didn't read books and play videogames, but these ships are just as much a part of my childhood as X-wings and TIEs. I would much rather buy all of these ships over anything from the prequels.

I don't want them, but I'm not closed minded and demanding about that. True story: I was BEFORE last night though.

Why?

Because last night my four year old boy (who plays X-Wing with me) was showing me pictures in his Clone Wars Encyclopedia and he was really excited about the ships. "Can we buy THAT ship for the X-Wing game?"

Then I tried to explain to him that X-Wing only included Rebels, OT, and TFA - but not prequels. He didn't understand and was disappointed, because to him it's all just Star Wars and it's all fun.

He's not a salty OT snob like us.

No.
