Another Excellent Game of BattleLore on Vassal

Not enough time this morning to describe the entire game (I'll challenge my recall abilities later today or tomorrow), but as Dale posted in another thread, I also wanted to share a tremendously fun and wild momentum shifting game that was played on Vassal. Game went from 4-1 to 5-7 to the 8-7 finish favoring the Pennants. I highly recommend playing the "Attempted Breakthough" scenario. Chock-full of what I love about Battlelore, it is.

next time invite me to watch!

I need to learn how to play lengua.gif

You are certainly welcome to drop into Vassal. Feel free to private message me about more details.

That is why - for once - I decided to turn on the log file. I know it sounds pessimistic, but I did it so I could see where I made a mistake and lost the game. Only, for once, I did not lose the game! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Eh, mostly I didn't want to bore everyone with a retelling of a game bostezo.gif ;)

This one started out with the Dwarves pressing the action, as they should. First turn for them resulted in the bagpipers blowing away the red banner gobbos in the center. But the trap had been set. On the dwarves next turn they did not press forward as far as the goblins would've liked, but far enough for the skies to first darken and then light up with magic missles. The bagpipers fell. One spear bearing unit fell. And then another. The red dwarves on the left flank were nearly depleted, and would fall from arrows on the next goblin turn. 4-1 the battle stood after the flurry.

There was a nervousness ripling through the goblin forces however, as they noted the lore piling up in the dwarves' coffers. The dwarves continued pressing forth. The Earth Elemental was finally summoned and sent out to break up the dwarves' advance. But mud it became quickly, no disturbance at all issued as it fell on the third attempt to take it down. The wizard took his turn at influencing the game to much better result, demoralizing four frontline units with a creeping doom. But the hour had struck, all the dwarves positioned for the Assault. From east to west the fronts collided, the goblins seemingly shattered, but able to cling to the field, losing 5 banners, but preventing the last, and taking one of their own. 5-7 the battle stood, awaiting the goblins' last gasp.

A harsh battle cry it turned to be, calling forth a Mounted Charge, while awaiting the dwarves response, having refilled their depleted lore through the sheer volume of battling during the assault. Courage is what the lore wrought, a Mass Shield of grit, giving pause to the charging hyenas' and lizards' riders. But only a slight pause, as the last of the dwarves fell one by one by one...
