PSA: Fantasy Flight Don't Hate Your Favourite Faction, Competitive Balance Or You Personally

By Rodafowa, in X-Wing

Honestly.

Releasing new stuff for other factions doesn't mean that Fantasy Flight want your favourite faction to be weak and you to be unhappy.

When they released Boba Fett crew, it's not because they hate Imperials.

When they fix the TIE Defender, it's not because they hate Rebels.

When they release Heroes Of The Resistance, it's not because they hate Scum.

When you say things like "CLEARLY FFG DON'T GIVE A FIG ABOUT COMPETITIVE BALANCE BECAUSE THEY ARE RELEASING NEW STUFF FOR THIS OTHER FACTION WHILE LEAVING THESE THINGS I PERSONALLY CARE ABOUT UNFIXED", you are becoming that breed of football fan who's honestly convinced that all referees hate hir team and that all calls ever go against them.

This is a natural and understandable consequence of literally all of us being self-obsessed monkeys who are terribly good at seeking out patterns even when those patterns don't exist.

It is also really bloody stupid.

FFG have a vested financial interest in maintaining competitive balance between factions and keeping as many of their products as possible "worth" buying. They don't do this perfectly by any means, and they may not do it in the order you want or the way you'd prefer. Frustration at things that bother you being seemingly ignored is totally understandable, but trying to make the case that they're neglecting a faction because they don't care about it or have, I don't know, some sort of weird grudge against a thing they're actively trying to sell makes you look like you've got a persecution complex.

The wheel turns. Your faction will get its day in the sun soon enough. It's OK. It's fine.

I can't wait to see the rebel veterans box and all its amazing content so I can complain that between the heroes of the resistance set and rebel vets clearly FFG hates Imps because reasons...

Very well said.

We find it disgusting that ffg supports ney favours terrorism over legitimate elected government.

Palp Aces players complained about the Stresshog.

Rebel players complain(ed) that they can't just slap down a fat turret and a regen ship and automatically win anymore and that there are no competitive Rebel lists, even though a.) Fat Turrets are still broken and easymode and b.) there are plenty of competitive rebel options, but expecting thoughts from players who main fat turrets is a tall order haha.

Scum players have Brobots and Jumpmasters and Hounds Teeth and a wide array of obnoxious hyper crew combos like Bossk crew and Gunner.

I hate all of you.

My faction is ALL of them....

Also even if a ship 'needs' a fix or not, FFG is ultimately going to make decision that make most business sense...

Release a fix for T-65s/Scyks/whatever

vs

Release an awesome pack of goodies and characters from that HUGE new Star Wars movie that just came out, and a tie in with the new core set that just got 1000s of new players into the game

It's a no-brainer...

I think I missed a discussion somewhere? :)

But I agree :)

Completely agree. Just go out and have fun with the amazing toys that we have :) If you don't like it, don't buy it! Simple as that.

Oh how I envy you.

Saying that FFG hates on one faction is silly IMO. One of the qualities this game is known for is a healthy competitive scene and decent balance. Why on earth would they willingly throw that away?

That being said however, FFG is a business, so their end goal is making money. Therefore, if they think a repainted T-70 makes them more money than a Scyk fix, they will release the former first.

Pretty sure they do hate me personally but then everyone is out to get me...

Very well said.

The whole thread about the Heroes of the Resistance was almost enough to make me stop posting here... I'm soooo sick of this whiny, entitled, us vs them mentality I see in some of these threads.

Fantasy Flight does however, hate Mumm-Ra. He's been wreaking havoc over Third Earth for far too long.

I think it's ridiculous that people whine about new products. There are tons of great ships our there and tons of great upgrades. Look at how many different ships and squads there were at the US Open series, only 1 rebel group in the top 8, and two almost identical scum lists.

People forget that it's all about BUSINESS. You release items that help keep the game fresh and try to keep things as even as possible, but it's a BUSINESS. They need to make MONEY.

So take your whining and go play a game you can win, like Chutes and Ladders or Candy Land with my three year old daughter. At least she doesn't whine as much as some you.

I so much agree.

I dunno man. They really seem to hate those Gunboat guys.

the best part is we'll probably not see much of anything out of what has currently been spoiled, considering how badly scouts murder them

so, as per usual, it'll be a whole lot of belly aching for nothing :P

don't we all?

As PS9 Poe demonstrates, belly-ache enough and FFG will cave. :P

It's OT fans that made x-wing big not tfa fans, heck tfa core sets are heavily discounted in lots of shops because there was never the massive boost to sales.

A smart company makes existing customers happy.

Actually when I cornered Alex Davy at worlds he confirmed a personal vendetta against me.

No nevermind I just realized who made the post I'm quoting.
