Had a Thought, Hear Me Out

By Engine25, in X-Wing

Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, because I probably am. Had a theory about PS9 Poe.

Perhaps this will be the only legal version going forward, and the original card will be the first officially banned. Maybe this is the developers conceding that they missed the mark and Poe was a little much for his points? So they made him PS9 to more reflect his ability in the movie, and increased his cost by 2 to balance him out. And I want to make it clear, I don't think he NEEDS a change.

Thoughts?

To be fair, I HOPE this is not the case. Just a theory, and I'd like some other people's thoughts on it. Why you think it's impossible or may actually happen.

I'm pretty sure this is a fix for Poe, but old Poe will surely find some use, after all, he is 2pts cheaper. The two will coexist, I don't think FFG will ban cards anytime soon.

I hope that I can still use the old poe otherwise my Triple x list is ruined. New poe looks cool though but expensive.

I have to admit, it is strange.

But if the old Poe card would be banned this way,

FFG could have fix Rhymer going the same way by releasing a 'fixed' card with the Imperial Veteran box.

Which they did not.

So I think both versions of Poe will be around.

Maybe FFG want to make the subfactions to become real factions,

At least the Resistance now officially gets 2 PS9 pilots ... The FO will follow.

Ban the old card and you'll get a very sour response indeed.

They won't ban it. Many games have multiple personas (especially Decipher's Star Wars CCG) each with slightly different points or restrictions to balance their relative abilities.

It will be up to us, the players, which one we use in list building.

Yeah, this isn't the case.

This expansion is a "hey guys the 2 t-70 previous expansions were a departure from our normal processes. Here is the set we would have released back in September without direct influence from the mouse."

But how do you tell them apart in those games? Serious question, because I'm not yet sure how we will do it either.

Yeah, this isn't the case.

Or "the release we would have put out if the Mouse didn't force us to rush something for Force Friday without seeing the film or knowing anything about it."

Yeah, this isn't the case.

I think it's more to do with that they didn't know about the movie's contents as much as the rest of us.

There's no need to ban the early version because they're both unique, so we can't run both anyhow.

And telling them apart will be easy - Different pilot cards and art, and one ship token has a big orange 8 on it, and the other has a big orange 9 on it. Plus in almost every match of X-wing, your opponents offers up their list for inspection, I'm sure most players will go out of their way to explain which version of Poe they are running.

This

FFG would be making a ***HUGE*** mistake if they chose to ban the old Poe.

They would effectively be saying ...

"So sorry to those of you who got into the game early. Some of the goodies you bought are no longer valid. But hey, you can ship us another $39 US and we will give you a new card and some new plastic crack to use".

While I do not think this will happen, if it did, I think the thread discussing it will have about 50,000+ posts and 1,000,000+ views. Pretty sure 99.89% of the posts would be negative ...

:P :D

I've heard directly from an OP employee that both Poe's will be legal.

If they did not ban the old damage deck then they won't be touching Poe any time soon ;)

No need to ban.

This PS9 version is just great fan service. Everyone questioned his PS of 8 once they saw the films. This is a great fun buff but it's a higher price so different to 8oe. If they were the same points than sure, but 9oe has VI and awing test pilot for a price. 8oe obviously has game just fine already and I'd dare say will see more competitive play.

99.89% of the posts would be negative, but they would only represent .11% of the population, continuously posting the same thing 10 times an hour.

IMO, the new Poe's cost is to ensure that the old one remains a viable choice. If he only cost 1 point more, then the old one would almost have been unofficially banned. By making him 2 points more expensive, you make it so that players have to make hard squad building decisions if they want that native PS9.

Yeah it would be a no brainer to take the PS9 version for 1 point more. Also because contrary to what 'everyone knows' VI isn't an auto include on every ace in the game.

They can ban it as soon as they release the new damage deck as a standalone expansion and ban the old. The upgrade for Poe was probably simply fixing a disconnect between Disney telling FFG that he was a great pilot and the movie showing him as the GREATEST pilot.

Not a chance. There is no way FFG would sell the FA Core sets to new players and then be like "sorry! that card is banned and you have to spend $40 ($50? whatever it ends up) on top of that $40 you already spent to use the best pilot in the Resistance.

Current Poe isn't broken so no reason to ban him. New Poe gives you the proper PS of what he should have been while freeing up the EPT slot (so you can turn him up to 11!!!!) at a small cost.

FFG is simply righting the wrongs that Disney created by not providing enough info early on and by not saying "Poe needs to be a 9". Now you get the choice. Nothing will be banned.

There is easily room for two and advantages for both. Poe's pilot ability is great! How often would you like an awesome ability like that, and be willing to give up 1 PS to free up the 2 points to buy it?

PS8 Poe: Get the great ability, save two points, and use Adaptability for a free bump to PS9.

PS9 Poe: Get the great ability, natural PS9, and the option to purchase another EPT.

Yeah, this isn't the case.
