Scum Alpha For Regionals

By Jisforjets, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Aholes have a PS 8 cap. 3 JM5Ks have a PS3 cap. Tie swarm is sort of tiered 8 7 4. Whisper omega palp 9 8 4/2... So I think PS 9 is a good buy for the Z and 666.

I think the scout really makes the squad. You have a blocker for aces, or a stable ship for end game.

I think the general aces strategy is Omega leader must die. A scout is a very capable blocker and doubley threatening alongside an aggressive Bossk. Ndru jas one job, he is pretty good at it :) it would be nice to have glitter on the Z, but I think Dengar crew on Bossk will edge out glitter over the course of a few games.

Is this concept to fragile or inefficient for a regional scale event? It looks like it could have a very powerful run against much of the meta.

Why the Homing Missiles for the alpha strike? I can kind of see it on Bossk, just because 4LOM and Zuckuss can help push the damage through, but on N'dru? I feel he gets better mileage out of clusters. And I also understand VI and the 9s you're trying to achieve, but honestly, without initiative bid points, you're not going to find much difference between 7-9. So with the point from Homing, drop Lone Wolf on N'dru in place of VI. Glitter would be nice, but oh well.

On Bossk, I honestly would drop the Homing Missiles and pack Mangler Cannon. It pairs well with his ability, and with Zuckuss, allows you to push through a good amount of damage.

For the scout, I don't know if you were trying to avoid the standard scout and bring something new, but the standard (and variants) work well because they maximize the value of their upgrades. Deadeye and Overclocked R4 or R4 Agromech are going to give you a lot better mileage than the K4. I like Overclocked personally, but if you want to avoid stress, Agro is a good option too. Or, you could honestly go with no mech as well. Deadeye just allows you to change targets if things develop unexpectedly. Which at PS3, that can happen a lot. With extra space from dropping K4, you could throw some Extra Munitions on to give yourself a beta strike as well. This is where Overclocked can do some good work too.

All in all, I really like the list. All the changes are tweaks and suggestions, by no means are they meant to be any more than that. And since there aren't any tourneys near me, I can't say for certain what is tried and true. The changes to Bossk though would give you a 1pt initiative bid, which could allow your PS9 idea to work as expected. I do think Clusters are better on N'dru. Throwing 8 dice at a target in a single turn is just too good to pass up. Just that change would get you another point as well, for a 2pt bid.

Hopefully you can take some of the ideas you like and use them, and ignore the ones you don't. Build the list to fit your playstyle, and then just practice, practice, practice with it. Two big ships can be hard to fly, so it may be worthwhile to just grab some large bases and practice flying around the board a little. I know I typically do that if I'm trying to fly a certain way or in unfamiliar with a ship.

Good luck

Really good post bud.

I have played a ton of Ndru and clusters are better. Getting clusters off vs a good opponent is luck at best. Getting homers off is relatively easy. Consistency is king IMO.

Bossk and Ndru need to explode a hard target right away to have a shot at winning. Wether that is a PS3 jump master or Omega Leader, it needs to die first shots. I think the significant boon provided by homing is the 4th dice and guaranteed crit from chips.

The JM has adaptability because in certain matchups I expect it heads up vs another target. Blocking and picking up a tlock is about as good as I could get it. I would hate to let the 3rd jump master fire with simultaneous fire the round my jump finish his. At PS3 he can bump up or down for blocking. K4 is great with a primary. Deadeye is amazing. I just could convince myself on ps 3 in the uboat match.

I think I understand now. This is all about the alpha. It works well for that, definitely. If you are playing for N'dru to use his ability during the alpha, maybe Concussion Missiles would work. 5 dice, plus Chips and missile ability guarantee 2 hits. If you drop VI for Lone Wolf, you get a reroll on it as well. It might take some away from the alpha at PS9, but it makes N'dru much more potent throughout the remainder of the match. But I understand if this one is all about the alpha, then I don't think there is much room to change things. I would still see if you could play around to grab a point or two for initiative bid, as it sounds like you want to shoot first and 'splode an enemy before he gets a shot back. Maybe swap Dengar for Merc copilot. Not always a good trade, but in this particular setup, it might work well, and free up one point.
