Rey PS8????

By HarryFel, in X-Wing

So the most unique, iconic droid in the verse that has never had a memory wipe can't fly Ana small Xwing (and again he does autonomously fly a starship in clone wars more than once) but the scrounged together salvaged astromech chopper can fly the ghost?

Hmm... Think I'll stick with my theory.

As to why they don't just droid ships? Wasn't there a war with some other faction where most non-Jedi pilots got owned by droid pilots?

Yes, but TIE/D (D is for droid) haven't been added to the game yet.

I really do love that model. Probably one of the coolest tie variants left. Almost ordered a bunch off of shapeways a few times.

PS7 if you ask me.

Rey is a trained Jedi. How is PS8 unreasonable?

"Trained" is an interesting way to put "Learns how to Jedi via deus ex machina."

You have to it it into context. Was Rey a PS 8 worthy pilot in the TFA? No, not at all. Rey implies she is a pilot, however there is no evidence in her background to suggest this is true. Based on what we know of her background as a scavenger it actually implies that she is not a pilot at all. Who is going to let an orphaned scavenger fly their ship? No one. But this is a failing of the movie (and relying in exposition that seemingly contradicts the background they established for the character). The short of it, just because she says it, does not mean it is true. Bear in mind this is entirely based on the explicit and implicit knowledge gained from just the movie. They can retcon it through other sources if they want (and probably have done so already).

But back to the context, FFG has clearly factored future "character" development into the PS8 since the opportunities to update her will be few and far between. Poe is the first to get the treatment, which is a bit sad given how long Luke has been waiting to be relevant, but they clearly want to avoid have to frequently update characters so they have factored in her characters arc into her current incarnation. I'm ok with that.

Is her PS too high for TFA? Sure. Is it too high for the potential of her character? Likely not. FFG just hedged their bets, if they made her a 6 or 7 then everyone would complain, just like they are doing now...so really you can't win either way.

The only Indication we had for luke being a decent pilot was him playing with a toy T-16 and then trying to macho out Han about his skills until the end of Ep. 4.... maybe Rey should have lead the attack in the Falcon, and Finn be captured instead for betraying the first order...

Chewie was more of a mechanic then an actual pilot. Much like a diesel mechanic can drive the truck from the parking lot into the workshop, but you wouldn't be sending him off to deliver a load lol. And as for her ps8,... that "flip over/belly shot" says it all XD

In my years in the diesel industry i never met a good mechanic who was a bad driver.

Luke. PS 8. ??? Coincidence hmmmm

As a Force user, Yes! He was even a pilot before the X-wing and Wedge could destroy him hands down without the force. The only reason Luke is an 8 is because of the force PERIOD.

I'd hate to be having a force period ,sounds a lot more painful

You undersestimate the power of MARY SUE

8 does seem a bit high. I probably would have gone with 6.

8 DOES seem a bit high for someone that is essentially a talented novice.

But then, maybe she just inherited her daddy's PS.

She is PS8 for game mechanics. Chewie is already 5, Lando is 7. So she either had to be a 6 or 8. PS6 was probably to low with her ability and she would never have seen play. PS8 is a good fit with her ability to get people in arc, and she has to waste EPT slot for VI to get the super aces in arc.

Gameplay wise, it makes sense and that is what matters most.

She was left with Unkar Plutt - think of him as the Watto to her Anakin. Watto made Anakin fly Podracers for him - Unkar let Rey fly ships for him, before she struck out on her own.

PS8 seems to be where FFG has settled on pilots with strong force abilities.

Luke Skywalker

Corran Horn

Rey

Carnor Jax

The Inquisitor

All of these pilots are somewhat gifted in the Force. The only real exceptions to this list are Kyle Katarn (PS6) and Kanan (PS5) and Ezra (PS4). Kyle didn't really being training in the force until well after his days pal'in around with Jan Ors and stealing Death Star plans aboard the Crow. Kanan and Ezra are hardly jedi, are very young, and have not had much time or experience flying. Rey might fit the later part, but clearly she's "chosen one" levels of force sensitive. Vader is a PS9 because a big of part of his identity is being "the best pilot in the galaxy" and he spent his youth Pod Racing.

PS9 seems reserved for dedicated incredible pilots with a ton of flying experience and natural talent.

Poe Dameron (new)

Han Solo

Wedge Antilles

Soontir Fel

Darth Vader

Dengar

and whoever the hell Talonbane Cobra is

You forgot Farlander and Zuckuss at PS 7 and Kir Kanos at 6. 4-LOM may or may not have had some inkling of the Force and may or may not have been delusional about the whole droid Force Sensitive thing.

In regards to Rey if you read before the awakening it explains that she has logged a ton of time in a flight simulator she salvaged from a y-wing and knows how to fly a lot of different ships due to it. That + force abilities I can see the ps8

Since Rey = Luke, PS 8 makes sense. If she shows herself to be as much of a Jaina expy as I suspect she is then I could sure as hell see her as a PS 9 T-whatever pilot.

Now the real problem is that Jessika "Testor" Pava is a PS 3.

No, the REAL problem is that Han "Hasn't flown the Falcon in 29 years, nearly gets captured on his barge but grabs the Falcon just in time although nearly immediately having the ship explode, only to later crash it into a planet before getting himself cut in half" Solo is still fracking PS9! WTF, for real?!

Guys, guys, guys - if there was EVER a reason to see a later version of a pilot REDUCED in skill...Solo, here, is the poster boy!

You underestimate the power of MARY SUE

Seems to work for Luke.

Dear god, am I tired of this "argument". No one would've batted an eye if it was "Son of Luke".

Yeah, not digging the Rebs being up to four PS 9s.

Really, no.

Really

If you are tired of the argument, it just means you don't understand it. Gender has NOTHING to do with it, the writing on the character was just awful. I'll paraphrase from a fantastic rant over yonder (which, btw, specifically addresses that point, so do check it out)...

When she needs to fly, she is an ace. When the spaceship breaks, she is an engineer. All of this learned while picking up trash on Planet Afghanistan, apparently. When she gets captured, she learns to Force. When she has to lightsaber battle, she learns to Jedi.

Basically, she has no adversity. Everything in the movie set up to be adversity is actually just a vehicle to show the next thing she is really good at. She's even better at being Han Solo than Han Solo is.

You can't reduce Han's pilot skill. Want to know why? Han Solo shoots first. HAN SOLO ALWAYS SHOOTS FIRST. so he keeps his 9 so you can VI him to 11 and then make a 10 point Inniative bid.

You must have seen a movie with a very different scene between Han Solo and Kylo Ren. (Or Han Solo and the Guavian Death Gang. Or Han Solo and the Kanjiklub. Or etc...)

I consider it a spoiler of things to come.

Force sensitive Chicks Rock!

better at being Han Solo than Han Solo is.

Daaaaym THAT HIT HARD!
