Proposed Star Viper Fix: Consortium Model / Buzz Droids

So I'm pretty sure that the Starviper fix is going to come with a Crusader Corvette as Scum's epic since the Crusader Corvette was the Consortium's anti-fighter boat.

You could get Tyber Zann in there, and when better to include something for the Star Viper than in the Crusader Corvette's likely release?

The idea here is to give you one or two of these things that can fill your list up. They weren't very good fighters in Forces of Corruption. But why make them filler? I'll tell you why.

"At range 2-3 within your arc, deploy the Buzz Droid obstacle. Any vessel that passes through it must roll attack die equal to their current hull value"

This could be an extremely hard counter to Palpshuttle, a Decimator, or any other large base ship, but also a couple of nasty small ones like the K-Wing or Punisher. It would make fighters like the A-Wing and other 2-hull vessels much more viable by circumstance.

You'd also have to be careful with a Consortium Buzzer, because if you're running a Uboat, it endangers you too, which I think is pretty scum-worthy.

What do you guys think?

Alright. Fair enough. But what of the cost reduction card?

Actually, they were pretty good fighters in FoC. They could beat X-wings and Interceptors in 1v1s. A-wings were the only fighters that gave them trouble. While Buzzdroids would be cool to see, I still think they really only need a cost reduction, and maybe built in illicit.

Maybe "Consortium Model" -2pts. Gain the Illicit slot, this can only be equipped on generic pilots. I see Buzz Droids atleast as the way they appear in FoC to be an Illicit slot that works similar to deploying a mine.

Buzz droid -scum only-

Torpedo, R1-3, A:4, 4pts

IF this attack hits, Assign the defender one Stress Token and one facedown Damage card then cancel all other results.

After the damage step roll 1 Attack die,

on a 'Hit' assign the defender another Stress Token.

On a 'Crit' assign the defender another Stress Token AND Flip a facedown Damage card Face Up.

It's a bit 'wordy' of an explanation for Buzz Droids. A simpler version could be assigning a Stress and Ion and let whatever damage roll damage.

But I'd prefer the above 'shield penetration' version since it affects EPICs and high HP/SP ships more.

Guri is my number 1 ship, in my number 1 competitive list. If you think the ship needs a fix, I suggest you rethink your strategies when building a list that includes it. That is all

I would never use this. It still leaves the cheapest generic costing 20 points, but now it's only 2 attack dice. At that point I'd much rather have the 3 attack kihraxz for the same cost, even if it's 1 less agility and can't reposition.

Buzz droids cripple ships and destroy systems. I would like them to say.

"If this attack hits the attacker may either chose the defender to receive 1 face up damage card or choose one of tje defenders upgrade cards they must discard"

-2 points and evade and additionally equip Virago would be nice. I equally wouldn't be surprised to see it get a Torpedo upgrade that does something other than save points or add a unique-to-StarViper torpedo. Retro thrusters: action: perform a reverse boost (or well, appropriate game wording to handle that from a rules perspective). Then gain a stress token. Or something to do with changing manoeuvre speed or direction - when you reveal a bank you may change it to a turn of the same speed - to make up for the lack of hard greens on what is theoretically an interceptor.

I'd also like to see some pilots with useful PS for it, or with good abilities to make up for low PS.

As always the comparison with Soontir has to be made IMO, and at the moment Scum have nothing to compare to him; the StarViper is the natural place for such a pilot to sit.

I still like the suggestion someone else brought up of Talonbane in a StarViper...

I just hope we get Kihraxz and StarViper in one pack and Scyk as the pack-in with a scum Epic. THat's my expectation for how it'll go.
