If an attack is out of arc in range one but in arc at range 2. Does the ability trigger? They don't mention this scenario in the FAQ. Autothrusters says out of arc OR beyond range 2. Can the attacker decide which they want, a range 1 out of arc or range 2 in arc in this instance?
Autothrusters question.
It doesn't matter if the attack is being made in arc or not. If any part of the defender is in arc, at range 1-2, Autothrusters doesn't trigger.
Is the defender in arc? Yes.
Is the defender at R1 or R2? Yes.
Autothrusters fail to perform.
Is the defender in arc? Yes.
Is the defender at R1 or R2? Yes.
Autothrusters fail to perform.
Its a bit clearer to say,
Is the defender in arc? Yes.
Is the in arc portion of the defender at R1 or R2? Yes.
Autothrusters fail to perform.
This is all covered in FAQ 4.11

Given that firing arcs are basically a 90* cone that extends to infinity, how in the hell are you in arc at range 2 but not in arc at range 1?
Basically, because the corner of your base is inside the arc, but the rest is outside, and your at an angle such that a corner that is outside is at range 1 of the enemy shooting at you. It's all explained in the relevant FAQ section.
Sort of.
Right. Fascinating. Especially the part about getting the range bonus from being at R1 out of arc but with the turret main weapon, but also triggering Tactician at R2 in arc. Would have REALLY thought that was an either-or. Being able to shoot at both R1 and R2 is fascinating.
