Scum and Villainy 31: Seeds of a New Rebellion

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

Sadly Kir isn't fixed...can't get Juke...and even if he could who knows how they'd rule that... Pretty sure it would work but who knows these days. Crackshot would also be a lovely EPT for him

I have a rad comic book with Kir that I've always gone back and read. Him being worse in Xwing than Carnor Jax kinda makes me sad. HE WON THE DUEL FFG!

OK....so I'm still only half way through this episode, but I had a thought on the whole FAQ about Valen Rudor. You are asking why do they do it with initiative? What if it's for variety's sake? Or to make initiative matter? To stop hard counters. So, let's talk about the Tactician aspect. If it was ruled that Tactician always worked, then Rudor would never get an action. If they ruled it that Rudor always got away, then Tactician would never work against him. By making it varied, they add a whole other layer of strategy and gameplay into it. Initiative matters and it's not so cut and dry with what beats what. It's less rock/paper/scissors. You can't say x always beats y, but it does sometimes.

Personally, I think it's kind of a neat aspect.

At the moment I'm quite enjoying:

2x Prototypes A-Wings with Refit

2x Talas Z-95s with Homing Missiles and Guidance Chips

Ten Numb with Calculation, Tractor Beam and Baffle

Wait....I have to think about this. If you use Ten Numb with Tractor Beam and he gets a crit on someone....it goes through automatically. They get -1 agility. You can move them if small based. It knocks off Stealth Device. Holy crap! That's awesome! Really cool combo there. Real out-of-the-box thinking. I love it!

He just rolled better...

If that's really what they were going for, basically another added advantage of taking initiative then I don't really have a problem with that but that just seems like a huge nerf to valen, a pilot who wasn't exactly dominant to begin with.

It's certainly fun. Although you kinda have to evaluate whether the -1 Agi is worth it over actually getting a Crit through 6 dice and 20 tokens. Not a bad question to face, of course. :)

But the biggest plus side of him is that it's a 100% no-go area for someone like Soontier (though an ace with shields doesn't care as much). That helps a lot with being able to control from a lower PS and means that, funnily enough, he gets shot a lot less than I expected by that particular archetype - especially if you can cover his flanks with asteroids/ships/arcs.

ten numb tractor beam and calculation - awesome. I sense someone getting sneak attacked in vassal league with that one :)

Poe getting an upgraded pilot card does leave the door open for Kir getting a new pilot card too someday. Who knows, Horton may end up with an EPT someday.

I was driving at the time so I wasn't paying as much attention as I wanted to. But regarding boba crew vs chewie pilot and the faq.

I thought that boba crew worked against chewie, the trigger is being dealt a face up, not necessarily that face up sticking.

If I hallucinated or misheard that conversation I beg my pirate lords forgiveness and would appreciate not having the walk the space plank.

Slowly I'm coming to the conclusion that even that may not be enough for the Great Mustachio.

Awesome episode.

Recently I've actually been flying the very list you guys mentioned. So far I've played it at our league night and also a small tournament that I managed to win. The list is:

37 Poe w/ VI, R5P9, AT
33 Jake w/ PtL, PRockets, AT, Test, VI.

30 Kyle w/ Adapt, TLT, Chopper, MC.

This list is actually quite fun to fly, and has several shenanigans to throw your opponent off. Being able to ensure Poe always has a focus is very powerful, and lets you bump and Tallon Roll with little to no consequence and always have your regen on. Also it protects him against Wes, who has become a lot more popular recently.

Jake benefits even more from the focus passing, and can reposition in the combat phase to bring his PRockets to bear. Against other aces you can even use Jake to block them, then reposition using Kyle to hit them when they have no tokens.

I tend to have Kyle skirt around the main combat at R3 hiding behind obsticles where he can. The TLT can usually plink a hit or two through, even when obstructed. Any damage he does is just gravy.

I'm not sure it's a top tier list, as it struggles against U-boats, though that fight isn't unwinnable. It's pretty fun to fly though.

Also I have refined my Phantom + 2x RSV list (for your phantom list challenge):

34 Sabine w/ Juke, Jan, TLT, Hull.

66 (2x) RSV w/ Juke, Comms, AT.

I've shelled out the 2pts to upgrade the R2 and Integrated to Autothrusters on the two RSVs. I also switched Ezra for Sabine. liked Ezra, but Sabine with Juke is even more fun! Plus the more Juke you have, the better it is.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I got the S+V dials and they are on my painting table. Thanks!

Also, I wanted to add that, in terms of other rebel swarms, Joe T. from the Twin Cities are has gone undefeated in Swiss rounds with Biggs, 2 Blue Novices, and 2 Bandits in two regionals. It's an upgrade from the rebel list you guys discussed in this episode I think, but it shows that maybe the archtype has some legs.
