Flotillas. . . You are welcome!

By Raging Celt, in Star Wars: Armada

Well, you'll have to read our article when it is released. Can't give all the fun away. We've learned something from FF afterall. But a teaser: board game geek has an accurate list of casual members with Armada collections and very easy to conduct random sampling. Couple that with a random sampling via polling of retailers and you'll see we fall within the 95% confidence interval. The methods will be posted in the bottom of the article via our web link.

Now back to 3 strikes and you're out. Anyone want to PM me on and verify this is the standard practice. How many of you out there have 4,5,6,7,8 warning posts and haven't received a threat of a lifetime ban?

You keep mentioning "the research I've conducted show conclusively..." May I ask what this research is?

Sigh.

Look you can enjoy the game or exit stage left. No big deal, right? Some of us are kind of excited by this, y'know? So enjoy our celebrating. Take a breath. It's all good. Promise.

They will look cool when you figure out how to stagger 4 on one platform. That would be a flotilla. The side by side U is an asthestic mistake IMHO. If I was still buying into the game, I would at least trick it out in some staggered 4 tiered fashion. Hope to see someone with the vision to do that.

And they look really pretty too! See, all things are right with the world. Except where they aren't.

Okay, that's a bit of a lie. The Gozanti appear a little blocky and misshapen. Hey Celt, next time mention that they should look really good! It's this kind of sloppy monkey paw Genie work that gave us the RAF Mk.II when somewhere, somehow, a fan said, "I'd really like an Assault frigate in this game".

As the research will show, most are not. That is the point. FF relies too much on fan boy feedback to gauge their success. The causual players are leaving en mass. But hey, don't let that temper your excitement. Play on p,Ayer

All you need is one other player and your good...until they drop the line that is. Too be honest, I doubt they would drop the line because that would cause the fan boys to revolt. Instead they will continue to feed you crumbs. Hopefully they will be better than the Wiz kid sort of stuff like flotillas blocking in the future, but you never know with them. Even one or two guys on a design team can keep hitting pay dirt. You never know. One of the points of our article focuses on the responsibility of companies to customers. It is unlikely this is a particular one off situation. What happens when the fan base realizes there are no missing SKUs and a two ship release becomes the norm. Well, we have polling on what people say they will do. Obviously, saying and doing are two seperate things. FF says they don't discriminate, yet they threaten to ban people with 2 warning posts who are critical of them and let certain fan boys make political comments which are supposedly completely off limit. As we see from the recent snapfist's comments, there is a double standard. We have plenty of examples of this repeated behavior across forums.

What happens when companies project one sort of path via silence through production history then abuptly change and what they do. How do causual gamers react to uncertainty in the marketplace? Markets hate uncertainty. Unfortunately, the fan boys forgot they need the non-forum, casual Armada players to keep their game going. Oh they'll pretend they'll be happy if FF doesn't produce another Armada SKU, but how many of you believe that. I believe for some that is true. They cite chess, but how many play that anymore? I was a 1750 at one time and haven't played a game in years since the modern board game revolution.

I am glad you are excited...at least until that tiny SKU blocks your ISD for the first time and you get double or triple tapped.

Exit the stage. Always the preferred method of dealing with those who oppose one's view or aim. The FF moderators have taught you well. Anyway, I am sure I will be shut down by FF flight tomorrow for my critic so goodbye if that is the case. Three strikes you're out for the non-fan boys who have to follow different goal posts. Good night...and good luck.

I'll admit I'm on 'Negative Nelly's' side, especially when it comes to the flotilla thing. I'm not sure it needs 4, but with that wide spacing and the equidistant and similar stand, it does seem a bit off to me. I wonder what the pegs are like for holding those things. I'm assuming (for the best) that they're un-notched so they can be at least positioned on some different angles. I've been kind of wondering how to vary those things a bit myself given that I'm planning for anywhere between 5 and 8 flotillas. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to see these things come out!

On the other hand, 'play on p,Ayer' got me to laugh for a little bit. If it's a mistake, it's a deliciously supportive one, if not, it's clever enough for me. Not sure who the 'We' are, but C'est la vie.

While retailers might be more useful information, a selection of BGG is a sample of a very specific demographic, and I would very much doubt counts as an accurate way to get an indication of how casual players are behaving. I would argue that anyone registered on BGG is almost by definition not a casual gamer.

Even then, all that polling retailers will tell you is that people are not currently buying much Armada stuff. With no new stuff recently out that may just indicate market saturation. We will only get an indication if the game itself is dying once the new released get released and people don't buy them to expand their collection. As I have said before, Armada is a heck of a lot more popular than Imperial Assault in my area, just most of the players have got what they need for the moment (of course x-wing still beats them both hands down). No indication they will not buy the new stuff when it comes out.

The major flgs in my area had to expand his armada space, recently, and moved it 'further up' (forward) into the store. Sales are just fine in the area, and our tournament play size has steadily grown over the last year. It's not huge, by any means, but it's certainly not dead. Given the time, cost and......cerebrealness of this game, I think that it's current success is pretty indicative of an awesome game, so far.

It's quality content like this that keeps bringing me back here.

Given the amount of custom painting and modifications we have already seen in Armada, I have no doubt that this will occur.

I’m currently planning to rotate the “U” by 45 degrees and then counter rotate the ships 45 degrees in the other direction. This will stagger the two ships. I might also look at adding in some “extensions” like from the Rouges & Villains packs to set the two ships as different “altitudes.”

If you guys saw the picture the guy took on imgur (https://imgur.com/a/Z6LNK) of the flotillas at Adepticon or whatever was a month ago, you'd see that not only are they staggered, but they are also at different "altitudes".

Thanks for that

At this stage...I stick around here for obscure meth lab on hoth references, and the occasional plug for my Venator.

Hooray, AdmiralNelson the doomsayer is still with us!

In the meantime, to go with the spirit of the thread, here's my prediction from back in June:

[...]

For Wave 3:

I expect a 2+2 wave, with 2 Imperial, 2 Rebel. I would like a +1 something, but I don't expect it.

I do think they'll do the Immobilizer 418, though I really don't know what sort of mechanic they'll introduce for it. I just hope it's cool and not contrived.

On the Rebel side, I think they'll come out with the Liberty-class

I think they'll also come out with squadrons expansions with Defenders and E-Wings, etc., and that will be it for Wave 3.

I also hope they come out with a transports expansion, that isn't so much about combat as it is about objectives. However, I do not think that will be part of Wave 3.

So, in other words: I was totally wrong!

I'm glad that they are coming out with that transports expansion in the form of the flotillas.

Dice please!

And FFG taught me well? (I just caught that. Hmph.) Man all I gotta say that is pbbbbt.
