Revised Regionals Data

The one concern I'd heard on cr90 swarms was being able to do enough damage quickly enough to get those 8+ point wins.

If that is the case, that might bed why they aren't as popular.

I remain very surprised that people are running Haven so much.

I guess I should have been more clear. There are lots of Rebel Carrier builds being played. Most all of them include Yavaris, some have Gallant Haven or Independence as well.

I've never had any issues dealing damage with my CR-90s if the have TRCs.

The SW90's do damage very fast too. It's harder to mitigate*; the trade-off is that your threat area is much smaller than the TRC-90 swarm's. That's a pretty big trade-off when you're pressed for physical real estate because you're running 8 ships, though. It makes the list very difficult to fly. It's why, when I run it, I have to use formations to keep my ships as close together as possible while giving them adequate maneuver room.

*Dealing damage exclusively in 3's dramatically hampers brace; blues at medium cannot be evaded without Mon Mothma when every face is a damage. This makes redirect and contain the only useful defense tokens.

Hey looks like MC80s arent so terribad afterall

It's certainly been more popular than expected. The current data has it showing up in 24% of lists overall and then 46% of the lists in the bottom 25%!

Does the percentage of Rebels top placing compare well to the lower Rebel player count?

Does the percentage of Rebels top placing compare well to the lower Rebel player count?

Rebels are ~ 39% of all players

Rebels are ~ 26% of Top 8

Rebels are ~ 15% of Top 4

So is that 15% of rebel players are in the top 4, or 15% of the top 4 are rebel players?

Likewise same question for the top 8.

15% of the players in the Top 4 are Rebels.

Basically if you want to win, don't take Rebels. And I'm sorry for taking the 80 to Pittsburgh and landing in 15th of 16. :D

It is more along the lines that if you want to win with rebels take Rieekan

I've won plenty of games with rebels, and I've come to really appreciate Rieekan.

But if winning is what matters I'd take either Demolisher or Rhymer and build around those.

For Demo Screed is too good/cheap not to take. Otherwise Motti.

This is 100% gut feeling, but the numbers seem to support what my bowels are trying to tell me.

Honestly the only reason I placed 6th in Louisville was losing my first two games by slim margins 3 and 49 and then winning 9-1 in the last round. It wasn't a strategy though. I wanted to win all three matches. I know Tom's fleet destroyed me this past weekend had I done better the first two rounds I'd have possibly played him. And he'd have finished 6th or something like that.

It jumps up to 33% of winners though. That's not nothing. What I'm seeing from the data is not that Rebels or any particular Rebel ship is bad. It's that Rebels cannot currently survive without Rieekan. Ackbar is the only other admiral in the top 8, and Rieekan is alone in the top 4 and the winner's circle.

Now you see, players, that the Empire will always triumph, because Rebels are dumb.

I wonder how this compares to Wave 1...

I recall the Rebels having a distinctive field day with the AF's.

I'm hoping that as the sample sizes grow some different things will start to shake out. I know that locally Rebel Swarms are a popular and effective build, but they've been nearly non-existent so far.

Regionally, Rebel Swarms get murdered by Demolishers and Rhymer Balls, both of which are omnipresent. And we've even got two people who have bought seven CR90s and seven MC30s (for the TRC cards), so we've got some dedicated and serious Rebel Swarm players.

Rebel Swarms that need to be at range all day would have some issues with a Rhymerball. Thankfully lists that can switch to an aggressive posture don't need to worry too much about that

I added the ability for you guys to comment on the spreadsheet. If you see a specific data point you have a question about, leave a comment there and I will try to answer it.

Regionals in Cambridge, MA (pretty much Boston):

  • 19 players (12 Imperial, 7 Rebel)
  • 5/6 Demolishers , no DeMSU builds
  • Top three were all Imperial (ISD/Demo/Raider w/fighters, 3 x VSD with squadrons, 5 x Raiders)

I'm going to e-mail the TO and he's going to get me the lists.

And yes, you read that right. I tied for first (tiebreaker was head-to-head) with a triple Vic list. I'm going to write up a full AAR tomorrow. I'm a bit worn right now.

Thanks! Not sure how the list would have done against DeMSU, Dodonna the Oppressor or another fine-tuned list like that, but I was pleased with the results. My goal was to finish top eight for the dice.
