Pick between two Aces

By DiggityDug, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm finalizing a list that I'm going to start practicing. I have 28 points left. I am set on Turr Phennir in his interceptor with Veteran Instincts and auto thrusters. This is a great cheap Ace combination. It gives me a PS of Nine, that in most cases will have me moving first, and then shooting first. Post shot, you get a free barrel roll or boost, to manuver out of arc. And it's all stress free. So out can reposition every turn and not be limited to green manuvers. What I am concerned about is his fragility.. Auto thrusters helps with turrets, but no shields means that you really need to focus on movement.

I've gone through all other pilots and the only thing close in this price range is the Inquisitor. I could get Inquisitor with Push the Limit and nothing else. Both ships have a constant 2 attack dice (with the inquisitors ability) although at range 1 the interceptor has 4. Both have reposition abilities, but the inquisitor costs a stress token, BUT the inquisitor has the green dial to shed some stress. The Inquisitor also has two hulls and two shields while Phennir only have three hull.

So I think I'm set on my plan, but want to make sure I have not missed anything. Any reason I would take this Inquisitor build over Phennir?

What's the rest of the list? that would help make the determination. You might try the Inquisitor without PTL, try Autothrusters and title.

Inquisitor has a constant 3 dice and at range 3 the defender has no extra defence dice!

If you don't already have him in the list, why not standard Omega Leader? Juke + Comm Relay + OL = 26 pts. Gives 2pt initiative bid, or two points for something else on your list. Could also go Zeta Leader if you wanted something different. ZL + Wired + Comm Relay comes in at 24 points. Or you could throw in Weapons Guidance if you're more offensively focused. That would be 23, which would leave any mod open to you plus an initiative bid after. Stealth Device? Shield upgrade? Maybe just Twin Ion. Then you'd get a fairly consistent 3 Att ship with 3 Def, 3 Hull, 1 Shield. Only PS 7, but still beats out most other non-aces.
