Wired Predator

By Tango Kilo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Was mucking around with a squadron builder and came up with this:

A-Wing: Green Squadron Pilot

A-Wing Test Pilot

Chardaan Refit

Wired

Predator

Shield Upgrade

25 Points

Was thinking of having four in a squadron = 100 Points

Both Wired and Predator are not actions, freeing up the Action phase for boosting or evading.

Was thinking of Stealth Device to team up with evade actions to really annoy opponents, but I've found the shield upgrade more useful with other ships. Though never with an Agility 3 ship.

I'm still new to the game so don't be shy of critiquing my "Wired Predators". I'm not sensitive :)

Getting an A-wing stressed without push the limit is not an easy task! I ran a push the limit/wired green to fill out a Poe and Red Ace list and it was really fun. I put autothrusters on it though, which helped against Han.

My one tip is: don't park it on a rock, forming a conga line of your bumped aces on the first round of shooting, that really didn't turn out well!

if you're stressed, you have no action, and if you have an action you have no wired.

I think Autothrusters will give you better mileage than Shield upgrade. They only need to kick in once to be better than an extra shield and with the A-wing's maneuverability, you won't get stuck in the enemy's arc at Range 1-2 as often as most other ships.

If you really want to make use of Wired then either Rage, PTL or Opportunist is likely to be much easier to trigger. Just pick which one best fits your planned points and usage.

Personally I quite like:

21 Green Squadron Pilot (19)

Test Pilot (0)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Wired (1)

Rage (1)

Autothrusters (2)

If only I could work out a way to shave off 1 more point, I could run 5 at 100 points :D

I like that, but unless they come out with an upgrade similar to Autothrusters but for only 1 point, I think you're better going for an alpha strike. Drop the refit, add Prockets. Drop thrusters, add Guidance Chips. If you Rage on Prockets turn, you get a guaranteed hit (chips) and the ability to reroll almost all other dice, plus focus to spend if need be. All can do this once, but that's a whopping 20 red dice being thrown, with multiple rerolls possible. Comes in at 96 points, almost guaranteed initiative. I'm a more aggressive player, so this fits my playstyle very well. It may not for you.

Why are you stacking so much reroll on a ship that only throws a 2-3 dice attack? .. how many double blanks are you planning to roll? Especially knowing you have 50% chance to get a hit/crit. Most of your rolls should are going to be 1 hit / 1 blank anyway, so you only need to reroll 1 dice. On top of that if you focus then your odds get way better with just 1 reroll, even with a 3 dice attack you only need to reroll 1 dice most of the time (if you focus),

IMO either go wired + PTL or Predator/Lone Wolf + absolutely anything.

Rage is simply a cheap and easy way to trigger Wired. PTL is arguably better but costs 2 points more (10% of the value of the ship). If you have the spare 2 points, great. If not, here is an alternative.

As to how many blanks I can roll, let me introduce you to my dice some time. ;)

Well, imo if you are rolling successive double blanks .. you just need to wait out the variance. Note: they have to be exactly blanks, if you are rolling focus's without a focus token then that's on you for not focusing.

If you take predator and just focus (NEVER Target Lock) .. you will find your rolls smoothing out to hit/hit on 2 dice very frequently. I do this with T-70's and I have so many games where my opponent is scratching his head at how often I succeed when he is Target Locking all the time and never focusing .. meanwhile I'm ripping apart Jumpmasters and bro-bots like nothing.

FYI focus makes every attack dice an individual 75% chance to hit, imagine rolling 3 of those and then re-rolling that 3rd blank.. and then using a focus just to make sure. I don't know what the math is exactly but you are super likely to get at least 1-2 hits.

3 Att

Base - 87.50% (3 hit 12.50%)

Focus - 98.44% (3 hit 42.19%)

TL - 91.12% (3 hit 16.78%)

F&TL - 98.89% (3 hit 46.74%)

Ironically, the TL doesn't help as much as people think. Because honestly, you're just getting another 50/50 shot at a hit. The big takeaway that I saw in it is that to gain the big hits (3 hits) Focus is always your better option. This may be a little off, as they were rough math estimations at the time. But I remember Focus was always the better option offensively.
