It's been released! I backordered Savage Spirits through TheWarStore. We'll see when they ship it.
Savage Species... and what comes next
Hey, would you look at that .
It's almost like I'm psychic or something. </bragging>
Getting back to the original purpose of this thread (absurd over-analysis) for a moment, this actually marks an important event: assuming we don't get a new book announcement before the official release announcement, this will be the first time Force & Destiny has gone without an upcoming book. Sadness .
Edited by Absol197Okay, so, funny gear stuff.
- Modular backpack: I think it's more or less the same as the one in Enter the Unknown, except it gives a minimum of +2 encumbrance instead of +3. The thing is, it says "plus an additional 1 point... for each pouch added to the backpack (to a maximum increase of 6)." I can't tell if the cap is supposed to be 6, or 6 + 2.
- Riding tack: mechanically, it does the same thing as the riding tack in Stay on Target, but it's cheaper (100 vs. 250), heavier (3 vs. 2), and it's treated as gear rather than armor as it is in SoT, so you can use riding tack and armor (not that it gives you any benefits to do so, because all animal armor is also riding tack).
- Veterinary kit: They are listed as being different models from the same company, but the veterinary kit in Savage Spirits is cheaper and lighter than the one in Stay on Target, and it does the exact same thing.
Lightsabers already get enough options to customize them already by way of their lightsaber crystals. Also, a lightsaber is a pretty narrow category of item (a hilt which uses a crystal and power source to generate an energy blade), where armor, melee weapons, and ranged weapons are considerably broader with a much greater variety of potential designs.
The section in the GM Kit is more than sufficient, otherwise the game stops being Star Wars and starts turning into pre-5e D&D where the quality of your character doesn't matter nearly as much as how twinked out your gear is.
About the only "expansion" that might be useful is to provide some additional advice on setting the difficulty if the PC wants to create something other than a basic lightsaber hilt.
Where are the rules for the effects of multi-faceted emitters? Making the blade usable underwater? We've got a few amphibious player species that may want to mimic Kit Fisto's saber.
The section in the GM kit is not sufficient at all compared to the crafting tables in Special Mods and Armorer. What exactly can you do with 6 Advantages besides reduce the encumbrance to 0 and add 3 intricate details that have no game mechanic? Encumbrance only matters if the gm makes it an issue.
Anakin's lightsaber had a slew of specific construction details, from an enhanced grip to a beveled emitter and solid case construction, but every lightsaber in this game functions identically regardless of any personalized adjustments.
All the mods for sabers are purely combat-oriented, we don't have anything for customizing them to be more useful outside of combat encounters. And adding an extra hard point to a hilt is way more random than what it takes to add a hard point to a vibro dagger. Barring specific talents near the bottom of a couple force-user trees like Armorer or Artisan.
We've got multiple force-sensitive specializations that deal with crafting, but no jedi-specific crafting tables!

I don't need them to make up rules for making the blade work underwater. Make a hard Mechanic's check to mod it. Or hell ..... it's such an unimportant thing I would just hand wave it and say "sure you're Nautolan Jedi's sabre works under water." I think that's a level of detail this game will never go into. Also as for every lightsabre being the same ..... ehhh that's debatable. On the one hand that's obviously not true with the number of crystal and mods you can already do. On the other hand this game obviously is not about the nitty gritty bonuses of the gear you have. Not on the same level that say D&D 3.x or Pathfinder are.
Also .... rules for moding a lightsabre for non combat purposes ....... ? Why? The lightsabre isn't meant to be some kind of multipurpose tool, good for hacking Stormtroopers and roasting your dinner.
There is a mod in savage spirits which sounds like it makes weapons work in different environments...

It doesn't.
The environmental adaption kit "prevents a weapon from breaking down as a result of a specific type of environment" and only works with ranged weapon.
So adapt it for lightsabers.
Vulf,
The answer is quite simple: attachments , of which the Sentinel book will probably have several given it's the one of the careers with a "techie" spec, the other being Guardian with the Armorer spec. In fact, if you read the various books, most of the "extra functionality" that can be added to weapons and armor comes from attachments.
As it stands, there's nothing in the rules that says a lightsaber can or can't work underwater as is. If you don't want it to be a standard feature of all lightsabers in your game, then allow the PC to spend an advantage when constructing their own hilt to say "and as an embellishment, my lightsaber is waterproof." Zero need to waste precious page space on a bunch of charts that only serve to further munckinize what's already one of the most potent weapons in the entire game.

I believe that the new assumption is that lightsabers always work underwater.
I take this from the fact that all lightsabers see during the clone wars series worked just as well underwater and in space as on land.
DARN IT! My FLGS normally has the new books on Thursday, but because of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, the books aren't coming in until tomorrow. And I was doing so good managing my crazy this time, too. Tomorrow's gonna be a long day...
Yes, I'm aware that complaining about a 1-day delay when non-US based people have to wait months more makes me a horrible person, but the twitches have started again. Needs...moar...data...
So the ARC-40B is just the ARC-170, but not? That's... strange. Why not just release the ARC-170?
So I just got my book... I'm really not seeing where Navigator has +2 FR. On the upside it's 1 +FR talent is in the 20xp tier which is cool. I do agree though that it has WAY too much emphasis on navigating.

That was an error on the other guy's end. He posted he was sleepy and made the mistake.
Just got my email letting me know my copy has shipped and I should have it by Monday
Curse you, Great Britain, the remote and isolated island of my birth!
Sometimes there are remote tribes untouched by modern civilisation who get their FFG books before us Brits.
First world problems I know, but Marcy want.

Hey, look on the bright side. At least you're not living in Norway, where they arrive even later than the UK. I've been having "want new book"-ticks for a week now, and there's no relief in sight.

Or the even brighter side. At least you're not living in China where we don't even get the books and either have to order them online (Keeping the Peace just became available for about $85 USD, yay!) or pick them up by flying to another country that has them for sale.

You're probably close enough to the printers to plan your own Jewel of Yavin-style heist.

Yeah, tell me about it. Still miffed that I wasn't able to get a copy of Special Modifications (doubly annoyed by the fact that one of my poor PCs got maimed - lost a leg - and being an Artisan wanted to build his own... wish I had the rules for crafting cybernetics... ). Now, I was going to go into full rant and hard-done-by rage... but having seen the posts below Maelora's, I'll shut up and be thankful I have the books that I do.
Anybody have any idea how long re-prints roughly take as that is my best option for 'normal non-import price' Special Modifications (and by that experience, likely Savage Spirits as well, though I don't think demand will be as much as Star Wars crafting rules).
Edited by MDR101Sorry, I'm an entitled American, so I've had no need to track that sort of information. If I lived elsewhere I'm certain those figures would have made it into my spreadsheets.
Of course, even if that were the case, the numbers I'd have would be specific to my country only.
So I guess what I'm saying is, "Sorry, for once I can't give you the answer to your statistical questions."
Also, Jshlouie, what company did you order from, and what country do you live in, might I ask? I want to support my FLGS, but I may want to consider options that get me my fix a little bit sooner, if you catch my drift...

Yeah, but you get health care, four weeks paid time off, legal drinking at 18, page 3 girls, good football teams and Doctor Who, so that makes up for it.

Okay, I know what everything else you mentioned is, but what the heck is that? Do I even want to know? I probably don't, but as my kindred soul Hannalore Elliot-Chatham once said, "Please tell me or else I'll have to Google it, and I'll have no protections.*"

*cracks her knuckles* *prepares to totally derail thread*
Page 3 girls are sort of our version of Playboy, I guess. Two of the largest national newspapers have topless models on the third page. And yes, anyone can buy a paper and it's not age restricted, and we haven't turned into degenerate sex-crazed maniacs in the almost-50 years we've had it. (As a people, Brits are kinda casual about bewbs.) The models are presented in a non-sexual manner, with big smiles and a small introduction that goes something like 'Aayla, 21, from Ryloth, loves cosplaying and shaking her lekku when she goes out clubbing, and wants to work with children and nexu. She's currently studying Astrogation at Coruscant University.' The girls are almost always students for some reason - it's easy money if you have the looks for it.
It's something of a UK tradition since 1970, and like Playboy, has come under attack in recent years. All the glamour magazines in the UK have ceased publication (though the purely sexual ones have not...) and the Sun has stopped featuring P3 girls, leaving only the Daily Star to carry on the tradition.
Personally, I see non-sexualised glamour as harmless fun, and I feel sad we live in such conservative times Partial nudity in a dying medium is no thread to feminism, girls. We are bigger and stronger than that, surely?
*ahem*
You did ask.
I hear Google might provide further information. *cough* LucyPinderHollyPeersRosieJonesLucyCollett *cough*
*Hereby declares thread well and truly derailed* (I miss ErikB. Does anyone else miss ErikB?)
(PS. Interesting fact: I set up Lacey Banghard's car insurance for her. She was very sweet and yes, it's her real name, as all her family members have the same surname.)
