Savage Species... and what comes next

By Maelora, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

One of the gatekeepers in the Force and Destiny Beginner Box followup adventures was a Miraluka.

The Jailor, yes. Fair enough. Seems likely they'd show up in the Mystic sourcebook given their inherent connection with the Force.

Does anyone have an idea when Savage Spirits will arrive to Amazon??

It's a case of being anally retentive and checking everyday

I am all too familiar with this feeling...

It gets soothing after a while. It's like a form of meditation. OCD meditation...

I want to buy you a slide ruler and some nice, crisp, clean grid paper. I have a suspicion you might like that.

I rather like mine...

I use hex-grid paper for most of my graphing needs. It's a bit more challenging then your common square grid, and provides a greater sense of satisfaction once you're done.

And yes, slide rules are awesome! I don't get to use them during the normal course of my work-week, so I have to come up with excuses to do so in my free time~

You know with the Mirukala used in the Farsight power art I'm thinking we're not too far from seeing them show up ..... I hope.

You're new here, huh?

(Oh, it's Kael, no he's not new here...!)

But we're not gonna get Miraluka, sorry. We'll see plenty more cantina/skiff-guard species before we see anything like that.

I'm sure there are plenty more 1 scene Uglies to go before we get the ones we want...

So, the commit upgrade for Farsight. Someone care to elaborate how they interpret that particular upgrade? Does it only affect Perception, and must you commit one force die at a time? Can you commit many? Does it affect the base power or is it just a way to get ranks in perception? Thoughts?

For the UK peeps: Savage Spirits is available at Leisure Games

Just so ya know :)

I think it's a misprint. My interpretation is that it works like a normal commit action, such as the Enhance or Sense commits (not one that is triggered after using the power). It only affects Perception, as it's the only thing mentioned, and it can be done as many times as a character is able.

Not all of them have been uglies. I don't consider the Devaronian or the Iktochi to be in the uglies category.

Yeah, if anything I'm rather tired of the si-fi trope of "these guys are basically humans, but different". Miraluka is a flavour of human that isn't human, thus it isn't anything we couldn't have already with a little role playing fluff..

That being said, I noticed that FFG's are trying to feature species that are "against" the typecasting that the book promotes. Dug and Baskalisk are not naturally mechanically inclined. Thus I have faith that they will turn up in another book eventually; one where their talents mightn't be immediately be apparent (so you have to buy both splat books to join the dots! MAHAHAHAHAH) XD

I would've thought so too, but it specifically calls out "adding" ranks per committed force die to perception... So at the moment it doesn't look like it's giving the base power a committed duration... which I'm fine with, but still, it's odd, if a nice flavourful touch.

The way I understand it is that instead of having to take a specific action to commit your FD to increase your ranks in Perception you can just do it as part of the action to use the basic power, and you may commit as many as you want at that time (maximum of 5 ranks though). I do wonder if the committed dice are only supposed to remain committed while the effects of the power continue, but since it doesn't say so I'm thinking it's like normal and you choose when to uncommit them.

Forged in Battle is on the Boat, people! I repeat, Forged in Battle is on the Boat!

If things keep going at regular pace, current estimates put it out on August 11, a blisteringly fast 93 days - only one day shy of tying the record!

This has been your emergency announcement!

I got the book and it's pretty good. If one doesn't have Enter the Unknown then it's definitely worth it for a more force and destiny orientated campaign so one could buy one, not the other.

All that means is Forged for Battle will be at Gencon.

Good news, everyone! </farnsworth>

After pouring over the data and turning every which way, i have a strong feeling that this upcoming quarter will see a large number of events for the Star Wars RPG. And, since we only have one upcoming book at the moment, most of those events should be new book announcements!

We may see as many as four, but to be conservative I'm going to predict three.

Here's hoping!

I pin my hopes on statistics and probabilities. :)

Just be happy I'm the one doing all this for you. Do you know how much it costs to wine and dine numbers so you can get this kind of accuracy out of them? They have really expensive tastes.

Edge of the Empire kept trying to order the lobster everywhere we went. I think it's cause he doesn't get the chance to eat at fancy restaurants all that often. He is a grifter, after all...

This makes me a happy communist spaceman.

Comrade Absol, I will see about getting your water ration privileges restored.

Hur...ray? I didn't know they'd been revoked. When did that happen?

Oh no! I've been drinking water this whole time! Am I in trouble!? O_O

ANALYSIS!

Okay, so let’s take a look at when new books get announced, because I’m getting antsy for something to do!

The first thing I want to look at is the dates of new announcements, both for each line individually and for all three lines as a whole. Starting with all three lines as a whole, we can see something very interesting right off the bat: 73.91% of all announcements have been in the first 12 days of the month, and none so far have been on the 1st of a month. So that’s important – The first two weeks of a month are always the most likely to get new stuff.

The 10th is the most common announcement day with 4 books being announced on a 10th, followed by the 6th (3 books) and the 8th (2 books). Every other day 2-12 has had one announcement.

The middle of the month sees a slight spike in the chances of getting a new announcement: there have been two announcements each on 15ths and 16ths. After that, there is almost nothing, with only 1 announcement on a 22nd and a 26th.

In terms of days of the week, Thursday is the most common announcement day with 6, followed by Monday and Wednesday with 5 each, and Friday and Tuesday bring up the rear with 3 each.

So, initial prediction based on this: the upcoming Wednesday the 6th is the most likely candidate for a new book announcement!

For all three lines together, the mean announcement day is 10.30, with a standard deviation of 5.77, meaning a standard range from the 4th through the 16th.

EDGE OF THE EMPIRE:

Edge is actually a pretty decent measure of the average: the 10th, 6th, and 15th are the most common days with 2 each, and the rest are clustered around the 10th, with an outlier on the 16th. Edge favors Thursday announcements a lot more, with 5/11 books announced on a Thursday, 3/11 on a Monday, 2 on Tuesdays and 1 on a Wednesday.

Mean Day: 10.18; Standard Deviation: 4.00

Standard Range: 6th through 14th

AGE OF REBELLION:

Age is, as always, the rebellious middle child of the lines. 3 of Age’s seven announcements were after the 15th (16, 22, 26), and it has no repeats. It does have a 6th and a 10th, though, although everything is really spread out. Age really likes Wednesdays, as it has 3 Wednesday announcements, 2 Fridays, and a Monday and Tuesday.

Mean Day: 12.71; Standard Deviation: 8.12

Standard Range: 4th through 20th*

FORCE AND DESTINY:

Force books may take a long time, but it’s really easy to predict when they’ll be announced: right smack at the beginning of the month, usually the beginning of the second week. Force has a small number of books, but not a single one of them is past the 10th. Force also boasts the earliest book, announced on a 2nd. Force also prefers early-week, too, with 2 Mondays, and then 1 Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Mean Day: 7.20; Standard Deviation: 2.79

Standard Range: 4th through 10th

Predictions? An Age book on Wednesday the 6th, and/or a Force book on Monday, the 11th! These are low-probability so don’t get too mad if I’m wrong, but that’s what I’m seeing right now.

* Really, Age? Really?
