Savage Species... and what comes next

More often than not, Kanan uses a blaster pistol to maintain his cover.

Well, Kanan avoided his lightsaber a bit during the first episode, but by the latter half of season one, he pretty much used it in every encounter.

Well, with Kanan what degree of opposition is he facing?

Since he's already let everyone in on the secret as of the close of Spark of Rebellion, no point in hiding that you're a Jedi with a lightsaber when you're squaring off against a significantly large Imperial force or worse yet an Inquisitor. I had a PC in my FaD game realize this when he out of habit went for his blaster instead of his lightsaber, and nearly got creamed by the Imperial assault team before remembering that an imperial stormtrooper captain and some other troopers had seen him using a lightsaber, making it pretty certain they already knew he was a Jedi. Kanan, having the benefit of being with a script doesn't have to worry so much about those kind of "heat of the moment" slip-ups that my player had, and so knows when to draw the blaster (lesser threats) or when to draw the lightsaber (serious threats).

Mind over matter: spend a destiny pt to recover strain equal to Willpower rating

Darn, not as Cool as I thought. I don't think that talent could even pass an Average check with any regularity...

I wonder...

The M-300 rifle is listed as having the "Stun Damage" quality. I wonder if this is an error, and it's supposed to have the Stun setting quality instead. Nothing in the description stands out as it being a non-lethal rifle.

Ah, the oh so rare humble brag.

What's that? This shade of green *does* look lovely on me, thank you.

So with this book, Seeker has the most efficient ways to gain additional FP and has two lightsaber/melee focus careers.

Seems like a better than average career to date.

Sounds like you ate something that disagreed with you. Go to the doctor maybe, or take some bismuth or something.

I can only imagine that Mystic or Consular (or both) will end up with a second +2 FR spec each. But until then Seeker looks a lot more appealing that Guardian to me.

Executioner is good on its own or syncs well with Ataru Striker and Hunter. More general purpose combat than the preview led us to believe, I think.

Hermit and Pathfinder are kind of peculiar, as they kind of step on each other's toes a bit. Comparing them, Hermit definitely focuses on animals, whereas Pathfinder is a little better at the "path finding" part of the name, at least in the wilderness, with Outdoorsman, Swift, and Quick Movement.

Navigator is wonky in the area that it focuses heavily on a role that a lot of groups, it seems, hand wave or gloss over completely. If you don't plan to do a lot of traveling encounters, it won't be of much use. You can navigate out of that paper bag like a rock star, though.

The gear section feels like a much more polished version of Enter the Unknown, even sharing several of the weapons and pieces of gear. A handful of other repeats (from Stay on Target and Strongholds of Resistance); going to have to make a general comparison of some of the more narrative items to see if they're the same item with a new name.

I like it overall, but I like to keep a positive outlook on these things, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Do you think that Hermit & Pathfinder can work together, with the ability to skip previously purchased unranked talents? Is this kind of the Pilot/Hotshot of wild folk, where they both do similar things differently?

What does Hermit do other than talk with the animals?

They work together great. Soul mates, you could say. It's hard for me to say about the other stuff. The only talent you can skip is Animal Bond, and it's cheaper with the Hermit.

Outside of animals, Hermit draws on connecting with nature. One with Nature, Survival of the Fittest, Force Connection, and Shroud are all talents that help personify the "hermit" character. It's kind of about being in the wild and staying there. Pathfinder is more about getting through it.

Huh. I had missed that Hermit has Shroud, love that talent. They sure do sound like peas and carrots, do these now make for the cheapest way to get to FR3? Sage costs 135xp, if your skipping Animal Bond in pathfinder then it costs a total of 70 to get its Force Rating talent including buying into the specialisation, so is it 65xp or less to get the Animal Bond talent and 1 Force Rating talent in Hermit? (I just Min/Maxed didn't I :( )

No, Hermit is a little more to hit FR3, at 155. Animal Bond is out of the way of the quickest path to Force Rating.

(Didn't notice there was an 11th page, apparently. -ignore)

What I meant was to get Animal Bond and +1 FR from Hermit then get the second +1 FR from Pathfinder.

Hermit & Hunter would certainly make for a great Horseback Riding Rifle swinging Lone Ranger.

Oh wow, so Animal Bond is nowhere near a FR talent! Still waiting for it to be in stock here in Aus :(

I want new Lightsaber construction rules using the same system as the armor and weapon/droid/cybernetic rules in Keeping the Peace and Special Modifications.

The paragraph in the GM kit does not cut it. Do we have to wait for a Sentinel source book for Jedi crafting?

Likely. It's the most logical place to expand on lightsabre construction rules.

Lightsabers already get enough options to customize them already by way of their lightsaber crystals. Also, a lightsaber is a pretty narrow category of item (a hilt which uses a crystal and power source to generate an energy blade), where armor, melee weapons, and ranged weapons are considerably broader with a much greater variety of potential designs.

The section in the GM Kit is more than sufficient, otherwise the game stops being Star Wars and starts turning into pre-5e D&D where the quality of your character doesn't matter nearly as much as how twinked out your gear is.

About the only "expansion" that might be useful is to provide some additional advice on setting the difficulty if the PC wants to create something other than a basic lightsaber hilt.
