Solo play

By Flying Dutchman, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi guys,

Reading through old posts I found talk about solo playing this game but most of it was inconclusive.
Anyone know of any systems in play to solo play Star Wars: Armada?

Cheers,

Daan

Only real one is to set up your Ships and grow a spilt personality

I'm not aware of any rules specifically for solo play. Sometimes I just set the table up and see how various ships move and stuff. I've played a couple games by myself, though, too. I just tell myself that whatever fleet I'm controlling at that moment, I have to make the best possible decision for it.

Interesting. I am kind of into coding and made this for Wings of Glory: www.daanherman.nl
It's not finished yet but I am planning to make something for more games. SW Armada would be an interesting project because there is so much more to the game than manoeuvring.

So sadly I play solo because of reasons. I can tell you that I check my brain out at the door so I am not slanted to one side and cheat. Setup move your ships without much though of what the other side is going to do and don't play objectives, It works kind of. Well seeing my wife is not a strategic thinker I try not to think ahead much past the round I am playing to make things fair, its that or not play games with her at all. You could also follow along with games that people have placed on youtube, move your ships like they do pause the video do your move and so on to get it a surprise.

You Could also play vassal, table top sim, or setup your ships and get a pen pal and email turns with them, it makes it easy seeing the dice rolling and defense works well.

Sounds like this game is in desperate need of a good solo system! Just what I am looking for ;)
How would you feel like something similar I made for Wings of Glory? www.daanherman.nl

What you see there is not the finished version yet and obviously it would need to be a lot more "extensive". I was thinking 2 versions. One basic version for quick easy play against "dumb" AI and one advanced version that would require a lot of user input but would attempt to emulate a decent AI to play against.

I'd totally play that. Heroes of the Aurturi Cluster is awesome for X-Wing, and I love analog AI systems like that. Even if the game is never going to outmaneuver you as deviously as a human opponent, just basic instructions for a massively oversized horde of enemies would be fun for solo pew-pewing.

I'd play the hell out of it, too, Flying Dutchman.

I play solo quite often since It's hard to get a game on my schedule. I try various fleets against the fleet I want to bring to a tournament to test its weaknesses and develop plans against popular counters. You have to remain neutral and think on the other side how to screw over or counter your opponent. Since I know what I'm going to do with my Tournament fleet I can simulate facing an opponent that knows what the strengths and weaknesses of my fleet and tries to exploit them like I may in a tournament. Question is can you win when your opponent knows what you want to do.

I prefer playing verse other people but I often don't have 3 hours to go meet up with someone so I can just leave this on my table at home and play at my pace.

I usually play with Two Hour Wargames, taking only the reaction rules and keeping the Armada mechanics for skills/shooting.

It depends if you want a campaign or a one-shot game.

So far, I have played 5-6 battles and it is getting smoother.
