Trying Out the Punisher

By SPE825, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm going to pick up a Punisher this week, and I really like flying Imps. I also prefer to fly 4 ship builds if I can. Just looking for opinions on this list. Not necessarily for a tournament or anything.

(36) Redline + Guidance Chips + Plasma Torps + Cluster Missles + Extra Munitions

(26) Omega Leader + Juke + Comm Relay

(14) Wampa

(24) Omicron Group Pilot + Vader

Total = 100pts

I am going to try this out tonight:

Redline with Fire Control Systems, Extra Munitions, Cluster Missiles, Cluster Missiles, and Guidance Chips for 39 points

Vader in the TIE/x1 with Predator and Advanced Targeting Computer for 33 points

Inquisitor in the TIE/v1 with Juke for 28 points

Vader and Inquisitor are fairly lean and should do consistent damage. I figure they will strip tokens and Redline can put some major damage through on tokenless ships. The double Target Lock and Chips will make the Cluster Missiles really deliver damage.

I went the other way with the punisher.

Death rain: Accuracy corrector, ion Engine, Proximity mine, Thermal Det, Extra Munitions

Howlrunner: Swarm Tactics

2x Black Squadron Ties

Whampa

It worked pretty well.

Good thought on the higher PS stripping tokens. My only higher PS is Omega Leader which won't strip any tokens at all. Might need to take that into consideration. I tend to stay away from Vader as I have a bad habit of getting him killed very quickly.

I flew this at regionals last weekend and did well. Redline with munitions and FCS can put out a lot of damage.

Test (100)

"Redline" (39) - TIE Punisher

Fire Control System (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Extra Munitions (2), Cluster Missiles (4), Guidance Chips (0)

Carnor Jax (34) - TIE Interceptor

Push The Limit (3), Royal Guard TIE (0), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

Captain Yorr (27) - Lambda-Class Shuttle

Darth Vader (3)

My advice is to run only one missile or torp on Redline. Yes it is very tempting to fill more of his slots but the chances of fireing off all of them is very slim. Homing missiles or clusters are the best for him imo

So if you're going to only use one, is it even worth flying the ship? I mean there's probably a cheaper way to field one set of torps, etc.

Plasma Torpedoes are excellent on Redline. You have to discard a target lock to fire them, but Redline still has a target lock to use to modify the roll.

Deathrain works best with Conner Nets, and I use Seismic Charge in the 2nd bomb slot, because a free barrel roll when you reveal your maneuver is great. Enhanced Scopes is decent on Deathrain.

For generic Punishers, I would stick to seismic charges and FCS for some decent action economy. It may seem silly, but FCS is a decent upgrade even without Ordnance. If anything, Flechette Torpedoes are a cheap upgrade.

I agree, but it depends on what else is in your list. I've found that most people will chase Fel or Whisper, leaving a fully loaded Redline destroying anything in front of him. Cluster missiles on him can be very effective.
