Startling Discovery

By IAN LACEY, in CoC Rules Discussion

1. Is this in the LCG? We are still playing a mix of LCG/CCG, and Startling Discovery is working rather well. If Startling Discovery is not in the LCG, fair enough; then the rest of this post is redundant.

2. If it is..."Response: After you succeed at a story, put 1 success token on that story card for each icon struggle you won."

? Where a story is contested, with characters on both sides, and an icon struggle is won because one side had fewer icons than the other, fair enough. What about if a character has a particular icon, and the other does not. Is that struggle 'won'?

What about uncontested stories? I have opponents arguing that in that case, they win ALL the icon struggles by default, so...5 success tokens thankee' kindly! (before you get to the tokens for winning the skill struggle, and being unopposed).

Hey!

The answer is that it isn't at the Lcg (yet hopefully).

But in response to your question: If your opponent does not have one of the icons that you have , you win that icon struggle.

So the answer is yes, you put tokens for that icon. And in uncontested stories, you just win the struggles to which you have icons, if you don't have icons you have a tie on 0 icons, even if you have fast because a struggle with 0 icons is still a tie.

Thank you. Been delving through my lists for cards that thwart Startling Discovery, (though not having it in LCG does rather solve the problem), and so far the like of Brown Jenkin, and other cards that stop the opponent playing Event cards seem to be the answer. Of course, this means re-rigging my deck!
