Hero Backstories

By Stompburger, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Before I started playing the campaign, I tried to find some backstories on the heroes, to increase immersion and ownership for the people playing the Rebels. I was disappointed when I found only a couple short backstories in the promo articles (Fenn's, which I copied word-for word; and Jyn's and Gideon's, which were pretty sparse).
So I decided to write my own. I stole some from the promo articles on the FFG website, and the rest I had to glean from the side missions and flavor text. I posted these on the BGG forums, and decided to copy them here too. Here's my take on their stories; feel free to use/modify/improve/critique them as you'd like!

Mak Eshka’rey

Mak was a Bothan spy, one of the few who initially sided with the Imperials in the galactic civil war. His ingenuity and marksmanship earned him a reputation, and a special assignment from the Emperor himself: a deadly sabotage mission in a residential district of a planet sympathetic to the Rebellion. Seeing that it would result in the death of thousands of civilians, Mak refused, and barely managed to escape with his life. He found refuge with the Rebellion, and in return for their protection, offered his services and valuable inside information.
One piece of this valuable information was the location of an Imperial research facility developing advanced armor for covert operations. After proving his loyalty in other operations, Mak was assigned to lead the strike force tasked with destroying the facility. What was supposed to be a cut-and-dry mission quickly fell apart - Mak’s incomplete intel led them to greatly underestimate the size of the force defending the facility. Wounded, outnumbered, and with each other member of his team dead or captured, Mak was forced to retreat. He never forgave himself for his failure, and has since taken on the most difficult and dangerous missions he can find in an attempt to prove to the Rebellion, and to himself, that he is worthy of his reputation.
He wields a longblaster, which he has illegally customized himself for pinpoint accuracy at long range, alongside an array of military tech from his connections in the Bothan Spy Network. He prefers to take out high-priority targets from long range, but has no problem dealing with closer combatants, either by evading or ignoring them as he focuses on his objective.

Loku Kanoloa

Loku was well-established in the Mon Cal Special Forces, where he served as a sniper and lookout, when he began to take interest in the Rebellion. His assignments took him across his Imperial-occupied homeworld, and everywhere he went he saw the Empire’s cruelty and corruption. When the Mon Calamari revolted and succeeded in throwing off the Empire’s hold, he was quick to offer his services to the Rebellion. The merging of the Rebel and Mon Cal forces resulted in the dissolution of his team, where he had forged many strong bonds of friendship with his brothers in the special forces. It was with great sadness that he left them for his assignment to an elite task force within the Rebellion. Once the Empire is defeated, he hopes to rejoin his friends on the Mon Cal homeworld.
Through the rigorous training undergone by all Mon Cal Special Forces, and an innate talent for observation, Loku is able to gather every piece of relevant information about the battlefield. This information about the terrain and his enemies provides a decisive advantage to his team, and he becomes a focal point of intel and clarity in the chaos of battle. This information, combined with his remarkable aim, enables him to spot and eliminate enemies before they even become a threat to him or his allies.
He uses a durable, reliable, and precise all-weather rifle, and prefers to find locations on the field where he can attack from range and provide direction for his allies.

Verena Talos

Verena Talos was born to a high-ranking military family on Corellia. Her father raised her and her twin brother to revel in competition and combat from an early age, and it was no surprise when they were both accepted into the elite Corellian Security force, known as CorSec. Each driven to surpass the other, they rose quickly through the ranks. Verena focused on honing her combat skills, learning dozens of martial art forms and becoming proficient with thousands of firearms. Verena soon became a member of the Tactical Response Team, leading precision strike missions against terrorist encampments and organized crime rings. Her brother, though a strong fighter as well, chose to excel in information gathering, learning how to observe and analyze his enemies to learn their weaknesses, and often provided information to Verena’s team about the methods and equipment of their targets.
Despite her desire to outdo her brother, Verena felt no enmity toward him. When she discovered by accident that he planned to join the Imperials and deliver CorSec’s intel into their hands, Verena, in a rare moment of sisterly affection, went to him to plead with him to change his mind. He arrogantly refused, calling her weak-minded and foolish. Instead of calling for a team to take him into custody, Verena decided to bring him in herself. She underestimated him, however, and after a brief struggle Verena found herself lying dazed on the floor, bleeding from a wound inflicted by her own knife, as she watched her brother escape with the Intel. Determined not to let him enjoy the final victory, she joined the Rebellion and put her ferocity and skill in battle to use in destroying the Empire her brother serves.
She is skilled both with ranged and melee weapons, but prefers the latter, engaging her foes at close quarters where she can use her knowledge of the martial arts to bring her enemies’ own weapons to bear against them and their allies.

Gideon Argus

Even dropouts from Alliance SpecForces training are among the best fighters; those that complete it are some of the most fearsome soldiers in the galaxy. The men who lead them are legends. Such is Gideon Argus, who founded the renowned Saber Team of Alliance SpecForces and led it for many years. Their success drew the admiration of the Rebel leaders, and, apparently, the attention of the Empire. When a suspiciously botched mission left him with an injured leg, he used his long period of recovery to investigate the members of his team. He never found any proof of betrayal, and he didn’t know if his suspicions were merely the result of frustration and bitterness at their failure and his resulting injury. Unsure if he could even trust his own judgement, much less the operatives he was investigating, he resigned his position. He took an administrative position for several years until the aftermath of the destruction of the Death Star, when he was asked to return to the field and lead a ragtag team to investigate a mysterious Imperial broadcast…
Gideon’s weapon of choice is a portable and reliable holdout blaster, an anniversary gift from his wife. Though his greatest strength is his ability to command others, using his tactical knowledge to focus their efforts and inspire them to victory, he is a formidable soldier in his own right, and his age does not prevent him from fighting beside his men on the front lines.

MHD-19

MHD-19 is a 2-1B surgical droid, heavily modified with reinforced armor and an advanced AI that includes combat training and battlefield treatment protocols. His maker is unknown, and his earliest records are of forced service to Jabba the Hutt. Jabba used his capabilities for healing his guards and torturing his captives for many years before MHD-19 was purchased by a smuggler named Draylen. Draylen had intended to set the droid free, but out of gratitude, and relieved to find a human who respected droids, MHD-19 asked if he could join Draylen’s smuggling operation. Draylen agreed, and as they travelled the galaxy together the two became close friends.
They parted ways when they fell in with the Rebel Alliance; Draylen’s connections and experience led him toward the Intelligence field, while MHD-19’s abilities were better suited to work in the medical bays of the Rebel fleet. Dreylen had insisted that he be exempt from the memory wipes normally used on droids in his line of service, and so MHD-19 was able to develop a strong personality and human-like qualities - particularly a fierce loyalty to those he calls his friends.
MHD-19 uses a sidearm blaster in combat, as well as the standard medical loadout for his model, which allows him to keep his allies healthy and enhance their abilities. His retained memories also allow him to develop an understanding of his own mechanisms and design his own upgrades, including some that are more offensive in nature.

Jyn Odan

Jyn Odan was an honest smuggler before the Galactic Civil war found her. She is quick on her feet, even quicker with a blaster, and faster yet with her wit. These skills, along with a healthy dose of cockiness, made her a natural fit for the smuggling life. Her partnership with the Trandoshan Szark was a successful one, but eventually Szark saw an opportunity to make some credits and earn favor with the Empire. He betrayed her to the Imperials, informing them of the time and location of one of her smuggling runs.
She barely escaped, losing her cargo, her crew, and her ship in the process. With nothing left but her blaster and her life, and on the run from the Empire, Jyn sought refuge with the Rebel Alliance. Her knowledge of Imperial operations and security was invaluable to the Rebellion, and her skills with a blaster and as a pilot made her a versatile asset to the Rebel Special forces.
Jyn prefers blaster pistols to rifles, and is most comfortable with an older model given to her by her father. She is quick and agile, making her way across the battlefield with ease, and finds most problems can be solved by getting there first and firing a few blaster bolts along the way.

Diala Passil

Diala Passil had not yet completed her training to become a Jedi Knight when Darth Vader tracked her and her master, Shu Yen, to Yavin 4. Shu Yen saw a vision of Vader’s arrival, and, knowing that Diala would refuse to leave if she knew the truth, sent her off-planet on a training mission without telling her of the vision. When she returned, Shu Yen was gone, and the temple where they had trained emanated a darkness in the Force. Unable to even approach the temple, she fled to the Rebel Alliance and joined their fight against Darth Vader and the Empire.
Even before her Jedi training, Diala was a capable fighter, and she grows stronger as she learns new ways to weave the force into her actions on the battlefield. She was not able to create a lightsaber before her master fell, but she wields a plasteel staff with similar deadliness.
She is humble, honest, and has little regard for bragging and reckless showmanship. She is able to remain calm and focused in combat, using the resilience form taught to her by Shu Yen to protect herself and turn her enemies’ attacks against them.

Gaarkhan

Little is known about Gaarkhan, the wookiee warrior from Kashyyyk. He sought out the Rebellion and offered his services as a fighter, proving his worth in his first battle by storming Imperial trenches on Onderon. In that same battle, he met Fenn Signis, carrying him to safety when he was near death. They were both commended for their bravery, and were assigned to a special task force as soon as they had recovered from their injuries.
In combat, Gaarkhan is the epitome of wookiee ferocity: he charges forward to engage the enemy with his favorite weapon, a deadly vibro-ax. Any enemies who remain to return his attack will find that he is most dangerous when injured, and any who threaten his friends and allies will find him even more terrifying.

Fenn Signis

“A native of Alderaan, Fenn Signis joined the Rebel Alliance at seventeen years old and served two full tours of duty as an exemplary soldier. He was garrisoned at the Rebel base on Arda I when he heard of Alderaan’s destruction by the Death Star. Swearing to avenge his homeworld, Fenn Signis joined a Rebel SpecForces squad, and now, he aims to put his deadly skills to work against the Galactic Empire.
Fenn Signis’s fury and skill with arms can quickly fell any Imperial soldier. Like every professional soldier, Fenn Signis relies on his comrades, but he also has a powerful independent streak.”
- Quoted from Fantasy Flight Games Article

Saska Teft

Saska Teft is a black market tech dealer whose connection to the Rebellion was formed when she took refuge in a Rebel hideout after an Imperial raid. Though she refuses to formally join the Rebellion, she is occasionally called upon by Rebel leadership to assist in crucial missions. Her connections in the criminal underground also provide a steady stream of information about Imperial movements.
She is highly intelligent and has an intuitive understanding of all things electronic and mechanical. Because she is so often absorbed in her work, her social opportunities (and, therefore, skills) are limited. Her lack of social graces is an asset, however, in the black market circles she runs in. There, her eccentricity is often mistaken for incompetence, causing others to underestimate her.
Her inventions, while unconventional, can mean the difference between success and failure in the hands of resourceful soldiers. And none is more resourceful than Saska herself, who uses her own devices and illegal weapon modifications to wreak havoc on the Imperial forces.

Biv Bodhrik

Biv Bodhrik has no memory of his biological family; he and his younger brother were raised by Wookiees on Kashyyyk after their parents were lost in the turmoil following the Wookiee uprising. Biv’s adoptive father was the leader of a force of guerilla fighters, and so Biv and his brother learned to fight from an early age. When they were old enough to join the guerilla forces in their raids against the Imperials, they proved to be fierce warriors, even by Wookiee standards.
Their successes, unfortunately, drew the attention of the Empire, and soon an elite force of stormtroopers was sent to destroy their camp and end the guerilla movement. In the attack, Biv’s brother was killed. In his rage, and ignoring the fact that all his allies had retreated or fallen, Biv fought on until he had killed every remaining stormtrooper, except one. He and the one remaining trooper fought in vicious hand-to-hand combat until Biv collapsed, and the stormtrooper left him for dead. When Biv recovered, he left the planet, angry at the wookiees for abandoning him and vowing vengeance on every Imperial Stormtrooper for the death of his brother.
Though he wields a heavy blaster, Biv often chooses to fight at point blank range, where he can bring his great strength to bear. He has no fear of death or injury, nor patience for cowardice or hesitation. He also has no qualms about looting the bodies of his fallen foes, using their stolen weapons and armor to great effect.

This is great! I may use this for the campaign I'll be running for new players for a few months. Thanks!

You should pull source material from each hero's side mission, as that gives more key details, such as Biv's hatred for Kayn Somos, and the fact that Biv may have actually been a stormtrooper hiimself.

I did pull information from the side missions as much as I could - I didn't incorporate everything, but I tried to link each character's story to their side mission in some way, so players could see connections when they play their mission.

As for Biv, the one stormtrooper that remained and beat him is Kayn Somos, I just didn't name him because I figured Biv wouldn't know his name at that point. Maybe I should make that connection more obvious...

I didn't get the sense that Biv might have been a stormtrooper; where do you see hints toward that? Also, these stories are just my interpretation of course, and there are definitely other ways of imagining each hero's past :)

I always felt that Gaark joined the fight because he was a liberated slave that swore revenge against the empire. That is the back story I gave my group anyway.. these are great though nice write ups.

Yeah, Gaark has the least information of any of the heroes, so I had the most trouble with him. I considered the escaped slave backstory too, but I seemed to remember that being Chewie's story, and I didn't want to copy it. Though it does make sense, as a lot of Wookiees were enslaved.

I'll probably come back to his at some point and figure out a more fleshed-out story than the one I have now.

My Head canon for Biv was that he was a former stormtrooper.

Huh, Fizz said the same thing. Where are you guys getting that? Am I missing some hint, or is that just what seems coolest? :)

Funny, my headcannon for Diala goes the opposite way (she was terrified and sold out her master to buy herself time to escape).

On Biv most of the ex-stormtrooper stuff is based on the fact that the armour on his right arm looks like stormtrooper armour (personally I like the idea that he's a renagade clone).

It's the armor. He wears ST armor on one arm. That combined with his obvious dislike for them makes it at least a plausible backstory I think.

Especially considering Finn's character in Episode VII. I feel like FFG has been hitting awfully close to the mark on some of these characters with regard to the new movie characters.

Funny. My thought was Biv was a Canderous "clone" from KotoR. So, in my games I call him the Mandalore.

So I want to review the Diala figure. See I would liked to think of Diala and Gaarkhan as palling around together like Mission and Zalbar. Now I know the Temptation mission adds a little bit of lore to her. Is that supposed to take place on Yavin or Kashyyyk, or does anyone know? In her intro paragraph it says she is not a fully trained Jedi, but according to Temptation she had a master, and that master was killed by Darth Vader. So was Diala ever formally admitted to the academy on Coruscant. I'm going to guess no. Maybe her master fled he purge and then, like many Jedi, choose her to carry on his own legacy. What if he was on Kashyyyk when the purge happened and hid in the shadowlands. He could have freed both Gaarkhan and Diala who might have been slaves and then they all became friends. After that he took them to Yavin where Darth Vader tracked him down, though using Yavin is tenuous because how long had the Rebels been there. Why would the Rebels go someplace frequented by Vader. Based on the lore that has come since A New Hope, why would the Rebels have ever used Yavin?

Anyway, that's my view of Diala.

Yeah, I always assumed he was either a clone or stormtrooper because of that as well. He looks like he could be a beefier clone, but his relationship with Kayn Somos seems to imply that he may have been a stormtrooper- almost a sort of Phasma/Finn relationship.

I've done something very similar to this for my group. I tried to make it a bit more ambiguous to accommodate a variety of play styles, and explain certain in game quirks. For instance, even if the characters never choose Jyn, the in game story is that they are traveling on her ship. Saska's lack of social graces may all just be an act, and Diala's backstory can accommodate a player who is very flashy with the lightsaber and Force powers, or one who is more of a support character. It doesn't explain how her lightsaber ends up on Yavin IV at the end of her side mission, but I just explained that away with "The Force works in mysterious ways." If certain things in the campaign manual contradict the backstories I've dreamed up, I just omit that when playing.

I like your backstories for Biv and Mak way better than mine, although I like the contrast between him and Saska. My Mak's story ignores the source material completely, but I found what's there is pretty sparse.

Fenn Signis – Fenn is a well-known hero of the Rebellion. He was born on the planet Alderran, but he has lived most of his life on planet Onderon. This planet was initially part of the Separatist movement during the Clone Wars. Though it was conquered by the Empire, it remained a hotbed of Rebellion. Despite his planet’s history of opposing the Republic, and a rather libertarian culture, after the signing of the Corellian Treaty and the creation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Onderon welcomed the Rebellion with open arms. The Empire’s already tenuous hold on the planet devolved into open war. Fenn became a prominent member of the Rebel movement, renowned for his skill with blaster rifles, his penchant for gaining vital positions on the battlefield, buying time for others to escape or complete their mission, and his ability to evade imperial forces and emerge unscathed. Fenn’s loyalty to the Alliance may only last as long as the war does, but for now he is one of their most skilled squad leaders.

Diala Passil – Diala was a Jedi Padawan who had dedicated her life to the Jedi Order. With the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Diala and several other Force sensitive beings (mainly young Padawans) felt betrayed that the Jedi, the keepers of peace and justice in the cosmos, would take so partisan a stance in favor of the Republic, and not do more to negotiate and reason with the legitimate grievances of the Separatists. Her devotion to the Jedi ideals left her blind to the reality that the Jedi Council was siding with Senator Palpatine in part to keep an eye on him. This group of Padawans became conscientious objectors to the Clone Wars and left the Order before their training was complete. Diala was just 15 when she left her master, Shu Yen. Some stuck together for a time and advocated a peaceful end to the wars, others went off on their own, righting small wrongs throughout the galaxy using nonviolent methods, while some went into obscurity, studying the Force and seeking to complete their training in solitude, or going off the galactic grid and living out their days quietly, some even starting families. When Order 66 was executed, these “lost” Jedi almost entirely escaped execution, and were hunted down one by one in a ruthless seven year inquisition by Darth Vader. Communication within the group ceased. As far as Diala knows, she is the only one of this group left, and has been for the last twelve years. Now 37 and still technically a Padawan, Diala continues to desire a peaceful end to the war, but the creation of the Death Star has compelled her to abandon her exile and join the Rebellion. For her protection, she continues to keep her Force powers a secret.

Jyn Odan - The Rebellion has ties to many smugglers, bandits, thieves, mercenaries, and people of less than stellar reputation. Their affiliation with the Rebellion is similar to that of Han Solo. These are people who are not official Alliance operatives, but who are sympathetic to the Rebel cause and will occasionally do errands or favors for the right price. Jyn Odan is one such person. Jyn is Captain of the Valkyrie Corsair , a modified YZ-900 Corellian light freighter. She runs a tight ship which she is very proud of, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty to complete a job. Jyn is technically a smuggler, but considers people like Han Solo to be amateurs. “With a ship like the Falcon, there’s no limit to the honest work Solo could find. If only he weren’t such a **** fool that he has to deal with the Hutts to make up for all of his mistakes. And he totally stole that whole ‘Wookie bodyguard’ thing from me.” Several people have noticed that Jyn seems to have a slight fixation on Solo. She has clearly crossed paths with him, and may have slept with him, but if she did, she definitely didn’t spend the night on a dump like the Falcon , and there’s no way she would have let Solo spend the night on the Corsair . He’s not worthy. Rather than doing the “Solo approach” of quickly shipping exclusively illegal or dangerous contraband for high prices to remote or corrupt star systems, Jyn prefers a quieter method. She frequents major shipping routes with her holds always full. 90% of what she ships is perfectly legal mass market consumables : foodstuffs, medical supplies, field equipment. These items are almost always used to obscure something much juicier from Imperial customs, and a portion always seems to find its way into Rebel hands. Jyn acquired the Corsair by starting out as its pilot, when it was jointly owned by Saska Teft's father and a Trandoshan named Szark. Szark and Teft taught Jyn almost everything she knows, but Szark was truly amoral in the jobs he took, running supplies to Rebels and then selling out the people he just sold to the Imperials. He considered everyone just another form of “prey.” Szark took particular pleasure out of hunting Wookies, and ended up enslaving Gaarkhan as a living trophy. Shortly after he acquired Gaarkhan, Jyn stole the Corsair while Szark was doing a job on Tatooine. Jyn has dual reputations. In some circles she is an honest and hardworking businesswoman, who plays up the “two gals on a starship” bit with Saska for all it’s worth. She’s smart and reliable. To others, she is the best kind of smuggler – the kind that is smart enough to never get caught in the first place. Normally Jyn would never go so far as to directly help out the Rebels, but the construction of the Death Star has changed many things.

Saska Teft – Remember Kaylee from Firefly? This is Kaylee. She’s not that great of a fighter, but is an incredible technician, able to create tools that allow others to do maximum damage on the battlefield, and keeps the Corsair able to do things that astound. Saska usually insists on using the best parts for her ship, but they (almost) always work. It’s a wonder the Corsair doesn’t short out with all the tricks she makes it do. Saska grew up in great privilege for someone from Tatooine, but like many, her family’s fortune suffered during the Great Drought. They survived by becoming traders operating out of Mos Eisley spaceport, but this of course meant dealing with some less than entirely reputable figures. Eventually her father began doing business dealings with a Trandoshan named Szark. Saska’s father and Szark together owned the Valkyrie Corsair , a truly outstanding ship that neither of them could have afforded by themselves. By the time Saska’s father died (under entirely NOT suspicious circumstances which Szark had absolutely nothing to do with), her wealth had afforded her a great education, and growing up on the Corsair had given her years of first-hand experience designing, building, and fixing all sorts of machines. Saska has no great love for the Rebellion or the Empire, but she is loyal to Jyn, who has been her friend since they were girls. She acts rather sheltered and innocent much of the time, but this may all be an act.

Gideon Argus – Gideon is another notable member of the Rebel alliance. While Fenn is known as an elite commando able to execute seemingly impossible missions without fear, Gideon is one of those who worked quietly behind the scenes, dreaming up these impossible goals, coordinating troops and supplies, and giving people like Fenn the tools, training, and motivation to do their job. Gideon commanded the elite Saber Team, but was removed after a botched operation left Alliance commanders suspecting someone on Saber Team of treachery. Gideon was seen as the most likely culprit, or at the very least, was the one deemed responsible for the mission’s failure, and he was reassigned to be “in charge” of Rebel activities on the Valkyrie Corsair , meaning he was supposed to stay behind, receive orders from Alliance command, and follow them to the letter, however he has long had a flair for dramatics, and may have his own plans.

Gaarkhan – Gaarkhan has two brothers, one dead, the other enslaved on the planet of Bakura. Gaarkhan has sworn a life debt to Jyn for her helping him escape from Szark, although he longs to try and liberate his brother from Bakura.

Biv Bodhrik - Biv is part of the team of Rebels that are on the Corsair including Fenn, Gideon, and Diala. Like Saska, he was born on Tatooine. Unlike Saska though, he did not come from a background of privilege. Biv’s family were moisture farmers, and during the Great Drought following the Clone Wars, Biv’s family went deep into debt to the Hutts to keep their farm. This led to illegal contraband eventually being stored on the farm, which was naturally discovered by Imperials. Despite keeping up his end of the bargain, Biv’s father was framed for conspiring with the Rebellion to protect the Hutts. Biv ended up being drafted into the Imperial Army, but quickly defected after the Imperials imprisoned Biv’s father and mother. Biv has vowed revenge on the Imperials who turned a blind eye to a setup and conducted an obvious sham of a trial, and on the Hutts who made his family lose everything.

Mak Eshka’rey - Mak is a Bothan who specializes in long-range weaponry. Like most Bothans, he’s good with his hands and is exceptionally stealthy. He’s a skilled mechanic and helps Saska keep the Corsair running. He’s rather quiet and a bit of a loner. He likes working on the Corsair because its vast holds allow him plenty of solitude.

Working on some of these too now, inspired by you guys. I've taken some pretty big creative liberties, so I don't know if these might be contradicted by canon, or even the game itself. If you have any thouhts on how I could fix them, let me know! So far, I've just done the core box. Be warned, there are some minor spoiler-ish implications in these- nothing too big, but I guess I could see how some people would want a spoiler warning here. Also, Rogue One spoilers in here as well, so watch out for that .:

Diala Passil

Diala Passil was just a young Padawan near the end of the Clone Wars. When Order 66 was set in motion, Diala and her mentor Shu Yen were lucky enough to be on a diplomatic mission to Saleucami, and luckily were not present near any clone troopers. Heeding the warning that General Kenobi issued to stay away from Coruscant, Yen and Passil headed to Takodana to hide in an old abandoned castle, a once holy place for the Jedi. Diala's training continued there for a short time, but it was not long before Darth Vader eventually tracked them down thanks to a tip by the bounty hunter Dengar. While Vader dueled Shu Yen to the death, Diala managed to escape into the forest. The last cries of agony from her master still haunt her.

Fenn Siginis

Fenn Siginis has known rebellion his entire life, as he grew up on Onderon during the Separatist occupation. Living in the capitol city of Iziz, Fenn witnessed Saw Gerarra and Ahsoka Tano’s insurgency against King Sanjay Rash and his droid enforcers. Several years after the fall of the Republic, Fenn managed to track down Saw and his Partisans. With Saw, his army, and a young girl named Jyn Erso, Fenn helped liberate the people of Onderon from the Empire in one of the first successful military campaigns against the Empire. Saw and Fenn eventually went their different ways, due to differences on how they believed resistance should be conducted.

Gaarkhan

When the Empire began invading Kashyyyk, a wookie named Shoratha helped Gaarkhan escape his village and flee to safety, a wookie resistance camp far from the Empire’s reach. Gaarkhan pledged a life debt to Shoratha, a truly important pack in his culture. Shoratha eventually left to join a sect off planet called the Partisans, and he requested that Gaarkhan stay to defend the resistance camp on Kashyyyk. Several standard years later, Gaarkhan received a garbled transmission from Shoratha, and decided to head out to try to find the wookie he was indebted to. Though Gaarkhan had trouble finding any trace of The Partisans, he did find a similar sect referring to themselves as The Alliance to Restore the Republic- so he decided to work with them to their mutual benefit.

Gideon Argus

A hero of the Clone Wars and founding member of the SpecForce unit Sabre Team, Gideon Argue is a natural leader. After leaving Sabre Team due to the possible danger of a traitor in the midst, Gideon decided to move to the front lines, as a commander. His combat experience has proven invaluable to the Rebellion, and while one might think he’d feel more at home at the command deck of an HAVw A5 Juggernaut, Gideon actually prefers to work alongside other operatives in a small, tightly knit group.

Jyn Odan

Jyn Odan was an incredibly profitable smuggler in what she would now describe as “another lifetime”. Amazingly enough, she and her trandoshan partner Szark managed to gather both fame and riches without dabbling in the sale of illegal drugs or sentient creatures. Due to their successes, the Galactic Empire contacted the duo and offered a contract- Raid a Rebel GR-75 transport full of Wookie refugees from Kashyyyk so that the Empire could put them to work on some construction project called “Stardust”, all to the tune of 5 million credits. The two accepted the job, but Jyn used the opportunity to instead bring the refugees to freedom. Enraged, Szark attempted to shoot Jyn, but the wookie refugees overpowered the trandoshan and sent him on an escape pod onto Mandalore. Not long after, Jyn found her account completely drained of credits- Szark’s work- and had no other alternative or desire than to join the Rebel Alliance.

Mak Eshka’rey

Despite his rather un-Bothan-like “loud” approach to infiltration and sabotage missions, Mak has made a name for himself as being an incredible effective agent in the Rebellion. He’s only failed on one attempt to sabotage an Imperial base- a research facility in the wastelands of Jedha. Mak has vowed to finish this job, and is awaiting only the approval of Rebel High command to head back to the facility- this time, preferably, with some friends at his back.

I'm also looking at doing little dossier type things for the non-canon Uniques, to give them some backstory. So far, I've done Weiss:

General Weiss

After the destruction of the Imperial Citadel on Scarif and the death of Orson Krennic, Jurjen Weiss aspired to the vacant position of Director of Advanced Weapons Research. Sensing that his aspirations may exceed even that position, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin instead reallocated Weiss to work for the Empire as a field general, hoping that Weiss would get killed and silenced on the front lines. Though denied the calling to his research, Weiss continued to tinker and modify Imperial weaponry to his liking, even creating a heavily modified AT-ST walker for himself to use in battle. Due to these superior upgrades, General Weiss has not only survived, but has thrived against the Rebellion in battle, presumably to Tarkin’s dismay. Intercepted Imperial intelligence briefings suggest that Weiss may be secretly working with Darth Vader himself on some sort of superweapon project now.

Good work all around but this one really caught my eye. Good stuff!

Ready to have your minds blown? When I start up my next campaign, I want to reveal to my players that Jyn Odan's secret Mandalorian name is... Shyla Varad! (GASP!)

And that Murne Rin has been watching over a young cyber genius named Jarrod Kelvin, whose real name is... Davith Elso! (SHOCKING!)

And that before he joined the Rebellion, Gideon Argus fought in the Clone Wars... as CT-1701! (BUM! BUM! BUM!)

FFG all but declared it canon. CT-1701 is clearly a younger version of Gideon. He's is a trooper who can sorta shoot but also just kind of indiscriminately fires in a spray and if he misses, well that's okay because he'll get 'em next time for sure. By the end of the Lothal campaign, Rebel Command was like "Dude, please stop. What if from now on, you just shout inspiring stuff and tell us who to shoot and we do it for you? We'll even let you grow out your beard!"

Absolutely.

And Tess is clearly a younger Onar.

After enhanced cybernetics became too expensive, Tess eventually just started replacing her body parts with muscular Aqualish parts. Eventually, you ended up with a Ship of Theseus situation, so what was once (or once not) Tess rebranded herself as Onar Koma.
