Lets talk TIE Shuttle

By wurms, in X-Wing

I've been thinking about giving this a spin:

Gamma Squadron Veteran (25) x 4
TIE Bomber (19), TIE Shuttle (0), Crack Shot (1), Tactician (2), Recon Specialist (3)

PS 5 shoots before swarm lists, 24 hp with double focus is tanky, and anything foolish enough to fall into range 2 of this in formation won't be doing actions again.

I am having trouble loving the Tie Shuttle. For an extra 5 points you can get a lambda nearly twice as many hit points, an extra red dice and system slot to play with. The ST-321 title works well with Vessery who seems to be the new hotness. I guess if I were desparate for a support ship and needed the 5 points I might go for a shuttle but the OGP seems like good value, I would have to be very short on points too opt for the Tie shuttle over the Lambda.

5pts takes from OL to inquisitor or inquisitor to Vader/Soontir or Vader/Soontir to Whisper/Vess so 5 pts IS a big deal.

focus and TL for just 21 points?

I can do it for 3 with PTL :P

for my money, any support ship better be able to pull its own weight. Cheaper HWKs with TLT fit the bill for me, as does the 3-dice palp shuttle or even Manaroo with the incredibly lovely feedback array

a tie shuttle can at least block, but considering the limitations on either imperial officer, the small base and the fact that it boasts as much offense as a lowly academy pilot, I think it just makes more sense to go for self-sufficiency. Sure, PTL can be stopped, but it's 7 times cheaper

True, but with the Tie Shuttle, it moves first, giving your fighter a TL and focus. Now, your badass Ace can use his PTL to boost/barell roll or take an evade and have full mods when attacking. Every Interceptor can basically turtle up like Soonts with a shuttle tossing them an extra focus. OL has to TL first action in combat, shuttle can toss him a focus for a bit of offense/defense now on his first encounter. Shuttle is gonna make your hard hitters, hit hard. Either by maxing attack mods, or stressing opponents. Loving the potential for the measly cost of an F/O.

So likely that ship will cost more than 21 pts.

First off you have to put it on something with an elite slot.

Also HWKs seem to die faster than bombers.

Generic HWKs suck, even with TLT imo.

Generic bombers with crew and something scary with them usually soak dmg intended for your ace, or after they fire their missles get ignored.

Tlt HWKs just die

All I can say is

Jonus, Tie Shuttle, TIE Mk2 & 2 systems officers (27 points)

plus 2 tie bombers.... they can focus get a free target lock & re-roll 2 dice with their missile /torpedo attacks

Hmm, a pair of Scimmitar Squadron pilots with EMs, Chips and Homing missiles would bring that to 73 points. Just enough to chuck in a 26-point Omega Leader to mop up whatever survives the alpha strike. Maybe use the last point to put VI on Jonus to make sure you can get the target locks even against higher PS ships.

If you are less worried about Aces and more worried about triple Scouts then swap the Scimitars for Gammas with plasma torpedoes. Same overall cost but PS4 and slightly better against shielded targets.

Fine, I'll talk about the TIE Shuttle.

It expressly doesn't do the only thing I would ever want to use it for, Emperor in a TIE.

3 pts plus whatever you equip it on.

the ship may cost more than 21 points, but the thing you buy to give it mods is 3 points. Odds are the actual ship will be several times more effective in combat than what is the 2nd least impressive offense in the game, second only to the HWK primary

HWKs don't really die faster than bombers. the difference in 1 hull is significant, but so is the fact that turrets don't have to joust at the enemy. Poorly played HWKs will get annihilated, but that's a different story. Between TLT and the range of the rebel support abilities (1-3), they're surprisingly easy to keep alive provided you're not staring down torp scouts, who will just murder everyone

generic bombers just aren't scary. They hit exactly as hard as academy squadron pilots, which simply don't cut it anymore. Without crackshot, at the very least, it's very difficult to nigh impossible for 2 dice to contribute any sort of relevant offense. Now, missile bombers are cool, but Tie Shuttle kinda shuts that down hard

probably because it'd be broken as **** if it could :P

I've thought about running the following:

"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
Stealth Device (3)
Tomax Bren (24)
Crack Shot (1)
Recon Specialist (3)
Tactician (2)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Shuttle (0)
The Inquisitor (25)
Juke (2)
Homing Missiles (5)
Stealth Device (3)
TIE/v1 (1)
Total: 96
All are annoying, and Tomax Bren turns it into an Never Ending Crackshot fighter... at least until he dies, but then you still have to deal with OL and Inquisitor.

The first TIE shuttle I'll try is Scimitar + Fleet Officer + Mk2 Engines + Vader for 23 points. It offers pretty flexible support (Range with for Fleet Officer is a big difference over Range 1), and it provides a dangerous offensive threat to certain kinds of ships, and it's not terribly expensive.

Well it's gonna die anyway why not get some crits in.

I have been frequently looking at this squad:

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16)
Tactician (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
TIE Shuttle (0)

It's sort of a back pocket ace counter. Against some lists, you'll try to keep the TIE Shuttle out of the fight, relying on pumping front-line ships with Focus tokens to keep them strong and punching hard. You can commit the shuttle when shields are going down and it actually can do some meaningful damage. Against ace lists, it can act like a stresshog to cause nasty effects that ignore green dice.

Doom Shuttle Light: Scimitar + Hull + Vader

Ok, it's 22 points vs. the standard Doom Shuttle's 24 points and only has 7 hull to the 5 shield and 5 hull of the Lambda but it has got a much more nimble dial, if attacked has 2 Agility instead of 1 while costing a little less. The Hull Upgrade allows you to get one more use out of Vader which is why it is there.

Though lately I find it hard to field a high risk reward ship without the emperor, but with that many Intel agents, and his blocking, plus stress inducing, I have to say, looks fun

Sorry... this an Illegal build.

Sytems Officer is Limited, so you can only have one per fighter.
