US National Champs - how do I get signed up

By voidreturn, in X-Wing

How does this work? Do I buy an Origins badge? Is there a separate signup somewhere? How does this work?

Here's what I did ... someone with more experience will have to confirm if I did it right:

(1) Sign up for Origins badge

(2) When signing up, select events to attend. There are two flights for qualifying, plus some other events. You can also sign up for the finals, but I don't know what that means.

(3) Pay for all together when you check out.

I signed up for Flight 2 on Friday, then the Trench Run event on Saturday.

Do you sign up for the top cut? That's sold out. What happens if you make the cut?

This is such a bizzare event registration.

I agree; it's pretty strange. I wish these major events were separate from the big Cons -- I don't like the idea of having to pay the bucks for the event access knowing I won't get to spend the time because I'll be at the tournament all day. I'd gladly pay a higher fee for the tournament entry for a stand-alone event.

I live in Indianapolis and quit playing in big tournies at Gen Con because I missed a minimum of an entire day (usually Saturday, maybe Sunday if I was any good) when all my out-of-town friends come in town for the con.

You are not alone in your thinking.

There's been so much confusion over the whole question of whether you have to sign up for the cut on Saturday. The general consensus is that there's no way FFG would just prevent you from playing in it because you didn't sign up for it. However, I do wish they would make some sort of clarifying statement instead of leaving us all to hope and wonder. I have a feeling that a lot of people signed up for it, and half of them will have wasted their money. It's all just so strange of a set-up.

P.S. I'm signed up for day 2 of swiss! Really looking forward to it!

How much is it ro register and what are tve actual dates? I've been trying to find that info but it seems like i need the badge bought first.
