Lando + Recon Specialist + Experimental Interface

By cdarracq, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Does this interaction work:

Kanan Ghost selects the Focus Action - Recon Specialist triggers and you get 2 Focus - Experimental Interface can now trigger and allow you to use Lando to roll 2 Green dice.

That leaves the Kanan Ghost with possibly:

2 Evades & 2 Focus and the ability to eliminate one red dice?

or pure defense of selecting an Evade action and then Lando for a possible 3 Evades?

Recon Specialist/Focus + Lando is a legal combination (assuming you have a way to take both actions) that can net you 2-4 Focus tokens and 2-0 Evade tokens.

So Experimental Interface allows both to trigger

So Experimental Interface allows both to trigger

You spend an Action to Focus and that allows Experimental Interface to trigger allowing you to take the "Lando" Action. If you had PtL you could do things in the opposite order.

Note that the "Lando Action" may give you Focus tokens but it gains no benefit from Recon Specialist. Some may think that Recon Specialist would give you extra Focus Tokens when you gain them by taking the "Lando Action" because you are gaining Focus tokens and spending an Action but RS ONLY works when you actually take the Focus Action. I'm just adding this to be complete; it doesn't look like there is anything utilizing that error here.

If you have Jan ors as well hanging around you can replace a focus with an evade for extra effectiveness of needed

Good point, so what about Recon specialist and Jan Ors? If assigned two Focus or during an action you get two Focus does she convert each token into an evade?

No, Jan can only convert one token into an Evade, so the end result would be one Focus token and one Evade token.

The way I was using it was lando then recon spec and if I did somehow roll 2 evades then I wouldn't bother Jan on the ghost.

I'm gonna try out Biggs and tactical hammer soon with the ghost, I see some shenanigans with Kanan and Biggs

How well that works all depends on what you are using for that second action.

With Experimental Interface the order MUST be Focus w/ Recon Specialist and then Lando.

With PtL the order MUST be Lando the Focus.

If you are getting the second action some other way it may depend on what that free action allows.

good point, as i've only flown casual using lando (don't have his card yet) i forget how it stacks with EI (again, rarely use it) I normally run Kanan and recon spec and use Jan just to get an evade and a focus if 1v1 i'm having to turn away from it for my next tourney as its escalation and i cant build him how i want to from the off!

To be fair, this is accurate, but the order of the actions makes little difference at the moment unless both of them are movement actions or one of them is range restricted (TL, Fleet Officer etc) and the other movement. This is absolutely a case where if someone got them the wrong way around, you really shouldn't care.

Actually, it DOES make a difference even if there is no movement or other restrictions involved. The reason it makes a difference is simply STRESS. If you use Lando first and get your number of Focus/Evade tokens then maybe it's not worth the Stress for two more.

One may not care if everything is fixed but when you look at Lando you get additional information when he is used because you need to roll dice to use him. This is probably MORE information that you get before deciding to take a movement action or range restricted action and why the order of opperations is still important.
