I just bought the rules because I thought that they looked awesome. But the next day I talked to some people at a local hobby shop and they said that the game may be dead soon. There isn't anything available to buy aside from whatever you can find locally, and when that stock is gone that's it. I hope that's not the case.
Define 'Dead'. Can you still play it? Well, only if you can find someone to play with, which is going to be quite a challenge. As far as new rules & minis, I think it has gone the way of VOR.

No more Dust Warfare or Dust Tactics. The IP "Dust" is back in the hands of Paolo Parente and rebranded as Dust 1947 . Previous models will work with the new rule system but all rules and stats have been changed.

I still shed a single tear anytime I see someone mention VOR.
Warfare was such great game.
Dust USA has licensed the rights to Warfare 1947 from Dust Games. You can join the FB site and get in on the Play-test for the new edition and get the new Warfare card printed from DriverthruRPG

The FFG handling of Dust Warfare was excellent, it was a much deeper wargame than Dust Tactics Battlefield after Battlefront took over the license. It's great to see the community-supported effort to keep Dust Warfare current.
I was about to get into this game a few years ago but the Kickstarter fiasco made me lose all interest in anything this Paolo guy produces.
so why post to a dead board about how much you dislike Paolo?
the game is doing fine as a niche game and has a bigger audience than some larger games.

"how much I dislike Paolo" sounds like you're fanboying really hard there. The Kickstarter for Dust was a fiasco, borderline scam, there's no denying that. Thats more than enough to push a lot of people away from anything related to its products.
But you do you, I'm all in on FFG's star wars games, no time - or money really - for other companies.

I will not disagree with you that the Kickstarter "... was a fiasco, borderline scam,..." I will also not say that Paolo had nothing to do with it, or could not have made it better. But as one of the people who did back the kickstarter I place 90% of the blame on battlefraud, as at least in my case every single issue that came up with the kickstatrter was because of them.
It is gaining momentum. With Miniature Market carrying the current product now and many items selling out with in the first few days. I play twice a month at 2 different game stores. Several new factions being released in the year. They are celebrating their 10th Annv. at GenCon. It's a good time to be Dusty
