How would you feel if FFG added ships from...

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

So you're saying... You don't know Poe.

The only "named" pilot in whole box. The rest are just Aces, Veterans or Leaders of Blue/Zeta/Epsilon/Omega. Creative department should have been fired.

I'm just going to guess from your post count that you may not have been following the discussions that unfolded around this very complaint last year. Basically, the understanding is that FFG had their hands tied on inventing new characters or spoiling the names of others. Furthermore, there have been some fun threads where TIE/fo uniques were given more meaningful call signs and nicknames, and T-70 pilots were speculated as certain pilots from the canon material released after the movie.

I am aware of discussion yet I still think they should have waited a bit. But greed to release it at the time the film aired to profit from increased sales was huge. So rather rushed and cheap looking product than neatly finished one which they leave as it is. It is hard to create new content while the source (SW7 film) came with nearly nothing new for X-Wing game. Armada and especially IA have still many possible expansions ahead before they hit the limits of source (SW lore) but X-Wing has already depleted all OT sources but people are still buying so FFG tries hard and put every possible ship in from EU(now Legends) and new canon as soon as they can with spoiler problems and not all content revealed to them. I'd rather see new ships several months or even a year later than they first appear in films if there were no such spoiler problems.

Waited ? Yeah that would have been stupid. Greed ? OMG companies want to make money. The Horror!

Plus I don't think they had a choice. Don't like the product fine don't buy it but I don't think you understand what you are talking about.

I hate the generic names as next as the next guy, but I don't think FFG was to blame here. From interviews that I've read/heard it was Disney pushing for a very aggressive marketing campaign and required the new core set out by a certain date. All accounts also point to FFG not knowing much at all about Ep VII when they were designing the set. Disney didn't want to share info, they didn't let FFG make up names, and they wanted the project done fast.

When I said that people called me crazy.

Supply and demand is not greed. They are a for profit company.

How long was it from when Rebels premiered vs when it made it to X-Wing?

This seems to be aimed at adults (and their kids) than rebels :D

And sure, why not if the ships are cool?

The announcement came shortly before the beginning of Season 2, and the release came at about the same time as the Season 2 finale, but this means that the ships had to have been in development a great deal of time BEFORE Season 2 began. The designers likely began working on Rebels content shortly after Season 1 began. Also keep in mind that they have access to content sometimes months or years before its release, so they knew how Season 1 would pan out while they were designing everything. They knew some things about Force Awakens nearly a year before release, and Alex Davy has said that he knows FAR more about Rogue One than he ever did about TFA, and that was 9 months before its released. When we first see the announcement for a product, ALL of the contents and cards in that product or wave have been designed to completion already. There have been very few exceptions where text has appeared to change from announcement to release.

The lead time development cycle for this game is likely quite long, from inception to shelf, but the developers know far more than we do about upcoming film and show releases.

What is this BB-88 typo? Where have you seen it?

My 2 cents - I muse on when we'll run out of new ships to buy. I seem to be even more of a collector than I thought, and I always want more. However, I wish to play the game for fun, so don't "need" more ships (how many times a 100 point list can I make? - plus my fancy foam holders won't fit new ships!), and I don't "need" to keep buying the new stuff to get all the upgrade hotness. Let's make it a classic game, and just work on playing and strategy. And let's get to the fun of the game, rather than have the winner's circle full of the latest wave.

So, I kind of wish it would just reach a point of "the game's all printed, go play it."

Trust me, we'll find a new game to buy to keep FFG's doors open.

Give it several more years and you may get your wish, but there is plenty left to do.

... and new media and movies to give us more even more to look forward to, and more meta-changing upgrades. But, I really should stop spending money on one game system! ;)

Unfortunately, I really think if FFG stops releasing new waves, this game would dry up quick. Not only do the waves keep money coming to FFG, it keeps players interested and the game fresh. Look at any other game that has followed the same model, and you will be hard pressed to find one that is still active and thriving as when it had yearly or semi-yearly releases or updates.

Good point, and we don't want to loose that. The arms race is fun, isn't it?

And, nobody gets rich making Chess, or Go, or regular playing cards - as strategic and engaging as they may be.

Not that I agree or disagree here, but I don't think that example is fitting. FFG is not selling a life or death product here. Demand for their products would be virtually non-existent if they were to sky rocket prices by 5,000%. They can use a basic understanding of supply and demand principles and base their prices on what the max amount a rational customer would pay for their product with little backlash.

FFG was not to blame for the release of the core set at the time it came out. Disney wanted everything on the shelves for Force Friday. And from what I have heard from a friend of mine who is huge into Star Wars and a couple store owners is that Force Friday is going to be an annual thing now. All of the manufacturers of their toys/games will be having releases on that date as well.

This?

They obviously have no issue pulling from content directed towards children with the Ghost as an example, but with the whole Lego aspect of this show, I think this would be a stretch. I'd probably be a bit put off if any ships in this series do not appear elsewhere and made there way in to the game.

Thoughts?

I'd probably be pissed.
