Workable Uglies: Please don't vaporize me!

By sf1raptor, in X-Wing

Generics only... I like it.

DIE-wings are the only uglies I'd want to see, and they have to be proper hybrids: 2/1/3/0s with Y-wing dials, only the focus action and no upgrade slots.

We only do disintegration here. :P

The TIE clutch (From I, Jedi) is one Ugly I'd really like to see. And the phantom is so similar visually, they wouldnt have to do much.

I remember them having the ability to stop on a dime, just full throttle to a dead stop instantaneously. Could make for a neat dial.

I forgot about the Clutch. And yeah, they would be an interesting ship. I could see a white 0 maneuver for this TIE.

A white 0 would be a BEAST of a ship. Just stopping whenever it pleases, very hard to predict.

From wookieepedia:

Clutches were slightly slower than X-wing fighters but more maneuverable, and also had an unusual, but convenient, layout of controls, featuring a couple of pedals used for cutting quick turns, and the thrust and repulsor throttles could be turned off by pulling their respective knobs out--which the starfighter was wired to read as compensating to halt the movement in question, rather than merely ceasing thrust. This allowed a pilot to kill his ship's movement with a quick yank and re-engage it just as quickly, possibly with a quick turn added in there to further shake attackers.

Cause when you have enough parts to make enough of both, don't make the functioning versions of the ship, slap them together for no reason to another star fighter with a different computer system! Twice the work, less than a quarter return!

Always my issue with the idea. They always had masses of them, why not just make the actual ships? Seems like a refurb would be much more reliable than slapping together mismatched parts. Never understood peoples fascination with a broken concept.

I still think they wouldnt just have generics, maybe a few level 5 or 6 "aces" that have gotten accustomed to the Ugly they have been assigned/scrounged up. And either still fly it since they dont have resources for a bettership or they actually for some reason like it.

Seeing this makes me sad. It sounds awesome, I can already see great dual options for it, BUT as stated it looks a lot like the phantom and I don't see FFG doing a ship that could very easily be confused for another by a casual player. A shame though.

The point of an Ugly is not "lets mash two functioning ships together" its "Here I am in this junkyard full of busted up ships, let's cobble something together because it's better than nothing".

Alternatively, things like the Clutch or Chir'daki were designed using existing parts in new configurations in an effort to catch enemy pilots off-guard. If you're used to flying against TIE fighters and run up against a Clutch, that sudden zero-momentum maneuver is going to really mess with you.

Sure, when people make the minis they smash two figurines together, but thats mainly a cost issue. Modify 2 minis, get two back, as opposed to leaving wasted parts lying around.
