A cannon for Maarek and the TIE/D

By DarthEnderX, in X-Wing

Hey, someone in another thread came up with the idea for some kind of sniper-style cannon with a similar effect to this that would synergize properly with Maarek's ability and the TIE/D title.

So I made this:

Rather than a sniper weapon, it's actually a starship weaponized version of a Fusion Cutter, a tool(and weapon Dark Forces) for slicing through metal.

Note that it deals "1 critical damage" as opposed to "1 faceup damage card" so the crit does NOT pass through shields.

This is considerably weaker than the Mangler Cannon, so it should come in well under the point limit for the TIE/D title.

Megatron, is that you?

Megatron, is that you?

I assume that's what Megatron's weapon is?

I assume that because, when I was googling "star wars fusion cannon" for images, a bunch of pictures of Megatron showed up as well.

But no, that one is from The Force Unleashed II.

Finally! I was waiting for it.

..Or

Disruptor Cannon: Range 2, attack 3, if this attack hits deal the defender one face up damage card then cancel all dice.

That way its actually useful for ships that aren't Stele and has a more established lore behind it because Disruptors are a Star Wars standby

I have suggested such things in the past, so it may have been mine. I will say that the range 2 restriction would likely be a deal-breaker on this one. No other cannon is limited to range 2, and with only the TIE/D wanting to equip this cannon I don't think it would be too strong with range 1-3. Now if it just dealt them a face up damage card instead ...

I was basing it off the Adv. Homing Missiles card in that respect, and I think you are underestimating what a swarmable ship like the Scyk could do with that if it worked at every range. B Wings would be totally unplayable. The range restriction lets us keep it at 3 points without breaking it.

Maarek, upon losing his last hull point and floating out into the void:

"I STILL FUNCTION...!"

No, I don't think you could have a cannon that dealt damage cards for three points or less, it would have to be up there with HLC points wise. I'm just saying that a cannon that can deal crits needs to happen at 3 points or less, and I think the cannon in the OP with range 1-3 at 2 points would be good for Defenders.

I think it might be acceptible for the cannon in the OP to be range 1-3 at 3 points or less. The Mangler basically does the same guaranteed critical effect when it hits without cancelling the damage, and is 4 points.

Against shielded targets, this is going to be less effective than an Ion or Flechette Cannon would be. Since the TIE/D has to fire this cannon before it can use its primary, it's not going to be dealing out a constant stream of crits.

I'm certainly not against it being range 1-3. It was mainly for lore reasons because I was converting a melee tool to a weapon. But Old Republic apparently has a bunch of fusion cannons, so I think I'll go change it.

Finally! I was waiting for it.

I remember seeing this scene for the first time...I was in the 6th grade and a Transformers nut.

I always hated Starscream, but this scene just made my jaw drop. The whole movie did, actually.
