And the American Moslem Foundation might take umbrage over your insistence on what the correct spelling is. The only thing that matters is the way you pronounce it, if you say it with a "z" sound, it is offensive to arab-speaking muslums because then it becomes a different word.

There's a statute of limitations on debts of gratitude and I'm pretty sure ~75 years is it. That and the Russians/Brits did the bulk of the fighting. May as well be continuing to thank France (which has been through a stack of governments since) for making winning the American War of Independence possible.
That and all the destructive foreign adventurism started after the World Wars resulting in toppling democratic governments in South America, the propping up of the Shah which would eventually lead to a popular uprising that created the theocratic government in Iran, and more recently destabilizing Iraq to the point where Daesh arose. For a nation with nearly half the world's defense spending you'd think we'd be better at utilizing it.
Well, we owe Russia for assisting the Union forces and keeping Britain and France from invading us during the civil war. Which is ironic considering Russia is still one of the most prominent practitioners of slavery.
History is fun, I take a different history class every semester.
Cinco de Mayo is coming up, and we celebrate it in the US. Despite that, Franco-American relations have improved significantly.

-When the British invaded the island it delayed their forces due to their greed for plunder, withholding general Cornwallis his much needed supplies and reinforcements. Forcing him to surrender and securing US Independence.
The Netherlands and Sint-Eustatius paid dearly for this support. Their army and economy being crushed in the 4th Anglo-Dutch war.
Following this reasoning the USA and thus you, Mr. Vulf owe your independence to The Netherlands. And Sint-Eustatius in particular.
Think of it before using statements of how other countries owe the US their freedom. The freedom of European countries and the US is built on mutual sacrifice.
A sacrifice of which it is easy to boast from a comfy chair and a star-spangled banner on a pole in the yard.
If you really want to know what that sacrifice you casually and possibly unknowingly refer to with your words means, I suggest you get your backside on a plane and visit the cemeteries of Tyne Cot, Normandy, and Bastogne.

You went from talking about the civil war (and Russia didnt do it to help the US, nor would have France nor Britain gotten involved sicne they didnt care about the Confederacy as much as most people think, since they didnt need any cotton, thay ha 10years worth of it stored up in their warehouses), to Cinco de Mayo, which isnt even a real Mexican holiday, to talking about Freedom Fries...what?
And yes many nations wouldnt exist as they do if America hadn't gotten involved in the World Wars, but we did get involved, and it sure as hell wasnt to help other nations in WW2, it was because we got attacked. And we tried to stay out of it for as long as possible, due to the idea that isoltionism works (it doesnt). In WW1 we got involved for a number of reasons, and when the war was over we tried to act superior (well president Wilson did) and he just made himself look like a jackass, since America had barely fought in the war, and wanted to dictate most of the terms.
But those countries DO NOT owe us ANYTHING! (As was already stated- they have done their own fair share of fighting for thier own and our own place in the world) And having an attitude that they need to owe us something isnt the right way to move forward.
Also calling someone out for a "typical leftist response," shows that you are a likely just a right wing conservative, that can't put up much of a real argument, other than to insult them for being on the otherside of politics than you, so just stop.
So what if he didnt defend his argument, after calling you a bigot, just let it go.
