Proudly made in the USA

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

Some years ago some game producers decided to mantain production in the USA. If you buy, per example, a Advanced Squad Leader Starter Kit you will find printed on the box "Proudly made in the USA".

These days we read a lot about prices, discounts, online or brick shop... I only want to say that I support this policy. I know that Disney is a worldwide corp, etc. But I would pay 5 extra bucks per blister if it is manufactured in the USA or Europe.

We are China dependant in many areas, no moaning, this is our world. But when I buy a wargame related product, the "Proudly made" seal is a plus for me.

Personally I don't care from where is the product, but "proudly made without quasi-slave labor" it's appreciated, if only for the anomaly

Did you know the first Magic the gathering cards where printed in Belgium and a Belgian company still prints them today?

Did you know half this forum is not from the US?

I'm with Draconis, that I don't really care who prints my games, altough it would be nice if it's done by people who earn a decent living in a safe workspace. But if I'm totally honest I'll have to admit I don't care as long as teh chinse keep my Dice master dice rolling ;)

Given that Hexdot is spanish (or vasque if he prefer), as am I; a Robin is Belgian... Yes, probably all know that... :D

And I am not a US citizen. I must buy many goods manufactured in China. But when I buy hobby related goods I want to buy western produced goods, in the USA, Belgium, or Spain ( my country ). I assume I will pay a plus, OK. Proudly made in the EU is a plus also for me. Even better than in the USA, that was an ( Multiman Publishing ) example

Thing is, "made in china" is seen as a "bad" thing (lower quality, sweatshops). I wonder what it'd be like if they had "Proudly made by the People's Republic of China"

Here another Spanish :D

If it were made in the US it would quite possibly be made in prisons. Chinese semislave labor or US semi slave labor doesn't much matter to me.

In my humble opinion, working conditions in the western countries are, lets say, slightly better than in the PRC. And no semi slave labour in my country's penal centers. Last time I visited the US the conditions there were better than in the PRC, too.

In my work I must buy huge ammounts of material from China. When I go shopping I buy EU made clothes, shoes, etc. Also when purchasing space ships. Many, many industries moved from my country to Morocco or the fast east. I am sad about it

Not in Spain (yet), but the privatized, for-profit outsourcing of the US correctional system has led to a wholly uncivilized and economically destructive sector.

How can anyone compete with labourers who have no rights, no wage and whose only slternative to not working is solitary imprisonment and worse?

If that isn't slave labour, I don't know what is.

P

is for

PROUDLY 'MURRICAN!

but yes, still better than china.

You all realize that not all factories in China are automatically terrible?

What do you even know about the facilities that manufacture X-Wing?

So proud that the US is considered to be 'not as bad' as China when it comes to human rights. Makes me want to wave a flag or something.

Thanks Hex, for endorsing US manufacturing. It's about 20 years too late though, all the factories closed around here long ago.

Off-topic forum is where this belongs.

At one time, "Made in Japan" was also seen as a bad thing.

Perhaps off-topic. We care a lot about XYZB or how Card A interacts with Pilot B. But to worry about who or where are your minis produced is off topic.

There were some great high quality plastic parts producers in my area. The last one moved over to Morocco 10 years ago. Yes, 20 years later, I agree.

But if I could buy a blister manufactured in Maryland, Madrid or Warsaw... Irreal, I am aware of it.

XYZB? Sounds like a list building challange! (See now we are back on topic)

It would sure help with shipping times for us in N. America if we manufactured here!

Here goes:

Tarn, R7, IA

Horton, TLT

Bandit

Farlander, FCS, TB, Adaptability

I've seen merican cars build quality, i'll buy European every time.

Once again,

Disney isn't involved in the manufacturing decisions of these games. That's FFG and Asmodee, FGG's owners, Disney doesn't do much in terms of this game. Lucasfilm is the license holder and tells FFG what content is ok to put in their games, and occasionally will direct them on when to release a product (see TFA core set). But neither LFL or Disney are saying hey manufacture in China.

That's FFG's decision, and Asmodees.

Everyone always points a finger at Disney.
