Crits that specifically hurt carriers?

By Ardaedhel, in Star Wars: Armada

I've noticed that most ship archetypes have one or two crit effects that really mess them up. Depowered Armaments on long-rangers, Power Failure on big tanky ships, Targeter Disruption on black-crit fishers, etc.

I've noticed in my last couple of games of playing Dodonna/APTs, though, that if I'm attacking a carrier, there aren't really crits I'd rather throw down than the generic Structural Damage/Shield Failure/Projector Misaligned or the situational Capacitor Failure/Comm Noise.

So, what am I missing? What crit do you really hope that ISD-I/Indy carrier draws early off of your minefield/asteroid?

Crew Panic is the best I think

... *takes another shot.

What's the Dodonna Oppressor build exactly anyway?

Lyraeus has his DtO build posted over in the Fleet Builds.

My own Dodonna/MC30 build is pretty different, and I've been iterating it for a few weeks, but it centers around two (sometimes three) torpedo frigates, one with Lando, one with Admonition, both with OE and APT. I then supplement them with Yavaris and Salvation, or CR90's in various numbers and configurations. You can see one such build here.

Mostly I just try to distance myself from Lyraeus' build because I hate the name. :)

I would say Comm Noise is the nastiest one. Either make the speed zero to really lay into him or change his crucial squadron command into a navigate or CF.

On my carrier build of 3 VSD 1s with Tarkin the ones I absolutely hate are:

Comm Noise - I agree with Caldias. Replacing my squad command is horrible.

Depowered Armament - OMG now I can only shoot in short range.

Compartment Fire - NO token from Tarkin? Aargh!

Dodonna the Oppressor is a fast paced build that I specifically designed to see if a rebel list could use Dodonna's ability to the most.

The list uses 5 ships. 2 MC30 Scout Frigates, and 3 CR90 A's. Each ship has Turbolaser Reroute Circuits, and Intel Officer (yea 5 Intel Officer's, which is where the Oppressor part comes from). The MC30's are loaded to bear with Assault Proton Torpedoes, and Ordnance Experts. While 1 of the MC30's has the Admonition title.

The list is versatile. It can run and gun (use its speed and just red dice) to pile on damage thanks to TRC's. It can throw Admonition into most situations and come out on top which included into bombers and survive and it can take out most ships or at least damage them to the point that other ships can force down the last bits of damage with their TRC's.

Intel Officer might be dropped however. . . While an amazing card it only needs to be on a couple of ships. I have been using the extra redundancy to hit tokens that a ship might have 2 of. This means that the first attack from one ship will target the brace then the next ship will hit the unused Redirect. This also works against ships with multiple evades. The end goal is to strip ships of their tokens under a concentrated effort.

Here is the Dodonna the Oppressor thread I made some time ago.

Your red dice can shoot at Medium when you have depowered armament. Just not at long range.

Compartment fire hurts Garm too, and all the carriers who are relying on tokens to mitigate spamming squadron commands. They become predictable which is useful.

I think the main ones have been covered. They have all caused me major issues previously.

Although Crew Panic isn't as bad as when we first played it and assumed it meant a damage card.

I seem to inspire that in people.

So what you are saying is, that I need to buy another Corvette and somehow get the TRC card without buying more MC30s? :-)

Changing away from a squadron command is game ending most of the time.
