Will wave 3 bring larger ships or a higher point total for the game? Your thoughts...
Will wave 3 increase point total?
No, as it was quite clearly stated with the release of wave 2.
"400 points format is here to stay" was the wording, if I recall correctly.
It's conceivable I suppose but very doubtful from my POV. Tournaments right now are usually capped to 3 rounds so they can actually finish (it ends up taking about 2.5 hours per round), a higher points value would make it even worse.
I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to another increase to points values, but they'd have to keep tournament rounds to the same timetable, meaning slower players would be effectively locked out. So like I said, it's unlikely. FFG have not said they're increasing the points either.
I think it's important that people understand that the only reason the point value changed ever, was because with Wave 1 there weren't really enough ships for 400 point games.
I mean you could put in more AF's or VSD's... But the game was always intended to be 400 points, they just wanted to get the large base ships in the game before they increased the point value.
why can't anyone read!!!!???!
why can't anyone read!!!!???!
Maybe because the people who are writing don't capitalize, make spelling errors (not here, but many of them elsewhere), and use inconsistent and excessive punctuation marks!!!!???!
what do you mean?????!!!!!??????****??!!!!

Can't tell if censor or just used the * key....
lol just the asterisk key I thought about that after the fact. What's worse is I used four of them haha
400 points games seem to make pretty epic fights already. If they ever want to increase the max points in the future, I wouldn't go past 450.
As has been discussed previously - there's absolutely no reason why you can't go and organise and play 400, 600, 800 or even bigger games if you want.
You can even run a Custom based Tournament on a different point value, if you want - but you have to realise that it will not conform to the "Official Play" rules - you will have to state which rules are being used and which are not, and FFG generally won't prize it (and can be quite annoyed if you use their prize kits anyway and someone complains to them that it wasn't "Official Play"...)
So yes, Tournaments can be tricky...
But Leagues? Casual Games? Gaming Days?
Go For It.
400 points forces you to make list building decisions. You can add more points, but it rapidly turns into epic (or GWs apocalypse) where things get silly and aren't balanced.
They have stated many times from the beginning that the game was designed for 400 points. They did the incremental increases from 180 to accommodate and balance the waves that were released.
More points would be ok for time length, as long as they reduced the squad limit to 1/4. Games are long and clunky when both sides have 100+ in squads.
600 goes just as fast, it's just with more ships on the mat the winner is pretty obvious by the start of turn 5
Aaa we already play 600 points at least and 6 player games run 1000 per side. ![]()
points are all up to the players or the GM running the game.
I have played up to 1200 points, and even though it gets a little redundant up there, throwing that much power around the board is great fun. 600 are perfect for a royal bash when your tired of tight tourney play, and 800 are fun but a little over the top. I think a 1200 point game is more than feasible if you add another 3 feet to the play areas length. That being said, the game will remain at 400 for official stuff.
