Daredevil on a Firespray or Jumpmaster?

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Last night at our local league I ran this list:

Kath Scarlet

Glitterstim

Engine Upgrade

K4 Security Droid

Daredevil

Dengar

Predator

Gonk

Punishing One

I got in two games and won both, though they were both down to the wire. I wasn't expecting this list to even come close to winning as I just wanted to try out some new stuff.

Turns out, for me anyway, Daredevil on a firespray is pretty awesome. Paired with the K4 it worked great. Doing a daredevil move after doing a hard turn made getting around crazy good, and on Kath it meant it was even easier to throw that booty out at people.

The stress was almost never an issue surprisingly enough.

It made me wonder if a similar build would be worth trying on a jumpmaster:

Jumpmaster Pilot Person

Engine Upgrade

Daredevil

K4 Security Droid

Unhinged Astromech

I think Daredevil could be viable on Dengar to help make sure he has the opponent in his arc. Pair it with K4,EU,r5p8, the title and glitterstim.

Expert Handling is also an upgrade that could be of use these days especially against the likes of Omega Leader or other things with FCS.

I did bobba fett and RAC with expert handling that was so much fun

I like it. It seems weird but viable, so I feel obligated to try it.

I just wish Daredevil wasn't 3 points. If you are throwing it on a ship without boost you have to bring EU along to so you don't damage yourself. That's a 7 point investment.

I think I'll try the Dengar one I posted tonight. I'll pair him with 3 Black Sun Zeds.

Well, it would have been good had FFG re-FAQ'd the Daredevil to a Red maneuver, now that it will produce stress (with FAQ being made because according to older rules the timing was a bit off-place)

and then the K4 would be rivaled by K4, as the best S&V crew option.

VI or PTL with Engine will almost certainly do more to get people in arc than Daredevil. VI in particular. PS11 Dengar is awesome, because he can get his attack mods from K4 and Glitterstim, so he can freely reposition and not need to take a more funcitonal EPT.

Just a shame there isn't really a good wingmate for him.

How's the timing work on Daredevil and Kanan crew?

Daredevil

Action: Execute a white ( 1) or ( 1) maneuver. Then, receive 1 stress token.

Kanan:

Once per round, after a friendly ship at Range 1-2 executes a white maneuver, you may remove 1 stress token from that ship.

I would assume that Kanan's "after" occurs before Daredevil's "then"?

My head hurts...

Yep, it happens before you get to assign the stress via Daredevil.

because the Kanan trigger is nested inside the daredevil sequence.

I think it works for Kath. She wants a specific part of the ship adjusted, so DD actually affects her disposition, since the 'spray doesn't have the hard-1.

On Dengar's case, PTL works just fine and gives him more flexibility. If you're already investing in EU, take the "Super" route and go wild.

I do think that Daredevil is a really interesting twist to put on both Kath and Dengar. It's something that's not expected and I like that. I do think it would work on Dengar, especially.

I do agree that Daredevil would be better if it was made into a red maneuver. That way, you can go with Outlaw Tech and R4 Agromech combo. That is the red maneuver gives you a Focus and R4 gives you the TL.

Yeah....PTL works. It works on so many things. It's just nice to see OTHER things be good to use, as well. I get bored with PTL sometimes.

I've also thought of Stay On Target for Dengar with Outlaw Tech and R4. If you think Dengar is predictable, he can just swap his moves around and get a Focus and TL.
