K/O-rdinance

By brandonsosoli, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I played in my local store champs last weekend with 2 x wardens, TLT's, Tacticians alongside Ello Asty, R2D2, Autothrusters and VI. I was told by the guy who won playing Crackshot Swarm that I was a brave man for taking my list with current meta.

So with that in mind I managed to think of doing something similar to the rebel U-Boat list.

Guardian Squadron Pilot (25)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1)

Extra Munitions (2)

Mercenary Copilot (2)

Guidance Chips (0)

Guardian Squadron Pilot (25)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Extra Munitions (2)

Mercenary Copilot (2)

Guidance Chips (0)

Guardian Squadron Pilot (25)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Extra Munitions (2)

Mercenary Copilot (2)

Guidance Chips (0)

Total: 100

The basic idea is that once they're closing in on range they all focus, they then weather the opponents alpha strike, then the Squad Leader fires off its Thread Tracers giving the other 2 their first round proton shots with focus, chips, and at range 3 mercy co pilot and proton crits.

Any thoughts? Decent list or poop list? Lol

my question is with the low Pilot skill how do you guarantee a ranged 3 shot with your proton since you need target lock.

Low PS generally have a issue getting the target lock because they move first which means they could go from range 3 after you move to close range when you fire

This is where you use focus.... You only need to have focus to allow the squad leader to fire thread tracers.... If it hits it gives the other 2 the target locks they need to fire off their protons and have focus in the one turn.

Be interested to see it in action but worried that it will kill 1 maybe 2 ships in the initial attack then after that you will have to really do some fancy flying.

maybe with slam this could be ok you can do a 180 turn in one turn

Looks quite good but I feel you might lose out to true U-boats, even though you are PS4, you are only firing 2 torps per turn. Also, once the thread-tracers are spent, your squad-leader will not easily be able to get fully modified attacks of his own.

How about something like this:

Dutch Vander (23)

Plasma torpedoes (3)

Extra Munitions (2)

Guidance Chips (0)

Esege Tuketu (28)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Extra munitions (2)

Recon Specialist (3)

Guidance Chips (0)

Guardian Squadron Pilot (25)

Homing Missiles (5)

Extra Munitions (2)

Recon Specialist (3)

Long Range Scanners (0)

Total (100)

The Guardian takes a target lock at long range in turn 1. In turn 2 he takes a Focus. Esege then moves and Focuses. Dutch then moves last and TLs (hopefully having something in range at PS6) and passing the lock to Esege.

Dutch fires first in the hope that the plasma torpedoes will have a shielded target to work against. He has a Guidance chip to convert a blank and he can "borrow" one of Esege's Focus tokens if he needs to.

Esege fires next and will have both Guidance chip and a Focus token to improve his protorp shot.

The Guardian fires last with both TL and Focus token. Between them, the ships should have at least 2 focus tokens remaining to bolster their defense with and will have dealt 12 red dice (heavily modified) of damage, plus an extra shield by PS4. That should be enough to blow 1 U-boat out of the water before it even has a chance to fire. Against Palp-Aces, it should also deal with the palp-mobile. If you are feeling brave, you might even be able to take out an Ace. After all, even Soontir will run out of tokens when facing 3 ordnance shots.

Against swarms, your alpha strike will cut them down a bit although getting a second volley in may be harder. At least you will still have 2 PWTs to harass them with once your ordnance has softened them up.

Rebel U-boats requires more co-operation than their Scum equivelents who are largely self-contained. The bonus is that if you manage it, you can pull it off at higher PS. The challenge will be to see how it fares against Tie Bomber spam once Imperial Veterans drops.

Well at pilot skill 4 they will move after the Contracted Scouts, the true u-boats. However if moving first against aces at least I'm getting off the 2 proton torpedoes rather then none. Also with more chance of it being at range 3 with the chance to deal 2 crits off of the opening salvoes (1c from Torps, 1c from merc co pilot, hopefully 1c in the roll :P)

Will be play testing against imperial aces in the form of whisper, inquisitor and valen today so we'll see how it goes lol

I'd be interesting to hear the outcome of this

That looks awesome and i will add it to the play testing today, if only K-Wings could take an EPT and there would be a real Rebel U-Boat, Deadeyed and everything lol

The best part being able to slam away after the initial joust and then turn around for another joust is pretty awesome though. Will most likely depend on what and who I'm flying against I guess.
