Some Epts like Crackshot, is a one time use. Not with this guy, he can use all the one time use Epts over and over... I have so many plans for this guy
!
He has unlimited use of one-use cards.
In some cases he even gets to use the card twice.
(after which it is then discarded as his ability is once per turn).

I see... so you aren't really discarding it. Would have rather seen it written a different way. Also, it doesn't say it is just for him. Does this mean other pilots on the squadron can use the ability as well?
I think the rules established that whenever there's a "you" on a card, it refers only to that pilot/ship.
And, FWIW, I agree with one of your comments, though. I wish they'd said "when a (talent) card says to discard it, flip it face up instead" or something. I dunno. Telling you to discard it then do something else just feels clunky, but I can't think of a better way to say it.

When written on an upgrade card or pilot ability, "you" refers to the ship it's one. So no, Tomax's wingmen cannot use his pilot ability (thank the Force).
"Many card abilities use the word “you” to specifically reference that Ship card. Abilities on Ship cards cannot affect other ships unless explicitly specified by the ability."
Right now only 2 reasons.
I was trying to think of some cool combinations with the crew title. Things like Fleet Officer and Cool Hand. Not really thought through it all yet as I wanted to make sure I understood the card correctly first. ![]()

That's worth stressing. His ability reads "Once per round..." so if you were to use it twice in a single round (say, for cluster missiles) it would be gone for good.

- White 5-Kturn
- Infinite Crackshot
Don't forget Cool Hand. Give him a Fleet Officer and fly him alongside Rexler Brath, and he'll have focus/evade/stress, while Brath gets focus/evade/target lock. Tomax might strip a shield or token or two, while Brath gets to both modify his attack and turn the hits into crits.
I cant wait to try him with lightning reflexes. ![]()
Don't forget lightning reflexes!!! In general, he can be usefull and more important, fun in a lot of different ways!

Plus Systems Officer for true ridiculousness. Green Maneuver - hand out a target lock. Action - hand out focus token(s) and/or take one yourself. Stress - receive evade.
30 points but he's a hell of a wingman, and is actually quite hard to kill.

Definitely. The trick is to find good ships to pair him with. If you run, say, Rexler with Juke, that leaves you with 33 points for a third ship. Inquisitor?

But for 8 points less you could have the same thing, but with 8 points more ace to support with it, and that 22 point version has TIE Mk 2 which you really want on the bomber shuttle so it can keep up with your aces, especially if it's x7 Rexler.
I don;t know why people want Shuttle Tomax to work so much. He's just not worth it. He's designed for Crack Shot. Maybe Lightning Reflexes or Adrenaline Rush for bombing better. But mostly Crack Shot.
Even if I was doing Shuttle Tomax I'd do Crack Shot; a PS8 with Crack Shot every round is scary even with only two dice to attack with. It's way better than a free focus or evade.

Because low PS support shuttles are "terribad", unless your entire list is low PS?
And because he is insane with Cool Hand and Fleet Officer?
A PS 8 Support Bomber with 6 Hull, 2 AGI, Focus and Evade. It will not die easily and even prevents the normal Gunner/Pred/FCS shenanigans as it will often just take 1 damage.
Now - I wonder if there is a pilot in the Empire's arsenal who would want a free focus - on top of everything else. To trigger an ability maybe?
Mmm, lemme think.. ![]()

Not in my experience, and I've tried it. It just takes a slightly different way of flying, and practice.
Rexler can get just as much support out of 22 points of shuttle buddy as he can out of 31 points of Tomax shuttle buddy, but the 9 points you save not bringing Tomax will be better spent elsewhere. I mean, that's the difference between Omega Leader and Soontir, for instance.
Tomax is the brother of Xamot, twins in the COBRA Faction. They both fly TIE Bombers now, apparently.
Technically, the rules describe discarding a card as flipping it face down, since you need to keep the card around for scoring purposes. So the way Tomax is worded makes sense with that in mind: you discard the card by flipping it face down, then Tomax's ability flips it face up, thus "un"discarding it.

Given that the most recent FAQs changed the way discarding is described (presumably to account for Dual Cards) I suspect Tomax's wording will change (either in the box, or by errata) to account for that.
It's obvious what the intent is, but I think the exact wording doesn't match the rules any more.

Makes sense then. When I hear "discard" I think removing it from the field of battle, so that's why I was confused.

Oh, that would be a cool paint job on a pair of bombers. Blue w/ red, mirrored details...

Xamot's bomber has the cockpit on the port side. Duh.

There is no FAQ change concerning discarding.
