Sabine and Mines, Timing Question

By Yarmuck, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So Sabine crew states that when a bomb token is going to be removed from the board, choose 1 enemy ship within range 1 of the token to receive 1 damage. So when it comes to mines, when exactly is the token removed.

When a ship executes a maneuver, if it's base or maneuver template overlaps this token, this token detonates.

So does the ship complete the maneuver?

So hypothetically, Soontir has a mine directly in front of him. He can do a 5 straight, take the mine but at the end of the maneuver is beyond range 1 of the template, so Sabine doesn't kick in?

I'd say yes - executing a manoeuvre is getting to the end of the template. So if you're out of range for Sabine by the time you get to the end of the template, she can't fire.

The mines (bombs) detonate "When a ship executes a maneuver, if its base or MANEUVER TEMPLATE OVERLAPS this token, this token detonates." so as soon as you lay down the the template and it is over the mine token, it detonates. It detonates before they pick up the ship and place it at the end of the maneuver template. They roll for the damage, and you pick up the template, activating Sabine, and they finish the maneuver.

Executes a maneuver, does not mean after they finish the maneuver. From after the time they flip the dial to the clean up phase, they are executing that maneuver.

Sorry but this is not right.

In order to overlap the token, you need to execute the maneuver. Laying down the template is not enough. If you lay down the template and you would overlap another ship, preventing you from actually reaching the mine, only the part of the template behind your ship actually counts for overlapping. This can only be determined after you move the ship.

I always assumed her ability was referring to bombs specifically, not the higher level bombs that make up bombs and mines...wow, that's not confusing at all ;)

They're all bombs.

Bombs, charges, detonators, mines, and nets. All bomb upgrades, all bomb tokens.

"Mines" is not a defined game term. It's a term the players use to refer to some types of bombs. Any time the word "bomb" is used in X-Wing, it means all cards that go in the <Bomb symbol> upgrade slot, no matter what they actually do.

I'm with this guy.

Also note that the rules cards for bomb tokens mention "bomb tokens" for all the bomb slot upgrades, regardless of which name they have.
