TAP Dancing Across the Universe

By Baaa, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

In keeping with my philosophy of "if I buy it, I'll fly it"; I've found myself as the somewhat proud owner of three Tie Advanced Prototypes. The fact that these were bought on release so that I could get my hands on three Guidance Chips cards quickly before a tournament is my excuse.

Anyhow, I've got them, so I'm **** sure I'm going to fly the buggers. The other stipulation that I impose upon myself is that I don't mind if my opponents proxy in casual games, but I don't. So I only play with the ships/cards that I own.

Now that I've bored you all to distraction, here's my list -

The Tap Dance

TIE Interceptor (34pts)

Carnor Jax: Royal Guard Tie, PTL, AT, SD

TIE Advanced Prototype (22pts) x 3

Baron of the Empire:TIE/V1, Wingman

Any thoughts, criticisms and suggestions as always, more than welcome and appreciated.

Cheers

Baaa

Hey Mr. Sheep,

I'm a proud owner of 3 TAPs as well (absolutely my favourite small ship!).

Do you mind describing what strategy you had in mind with the triple Wingman EPT? The 15-point premium over regular Sienars is pretty significant.

If you're interested in a fun list that doesn't depart too much from your original one, you could try:

Carnor Jax [PTL, title, AT, SD]

Baron of the Empire [Juke, title]

Baron of the Empire [Juke, title]

Baron of the Empire [Juke, title]

It requires multiple Juke upgrade cards, but really takes advantage of Carnor's ability.

There's also this list which can make a huge splash on your first pass:
Carnor Jax [PTL, title, AT, SD]

Sienar Test Pilot [Homing Missile, Guidance Chip, Title]

Sienar Test Pilot [Homing Missile, Guidance Chip, Title]

Sienar Test Pilot [Homing Missile, Guidance Chip, Title]

I know for sure you have those upgrade cards since they come with the TAP expansion :P

Hope that helps!

whats the thought process with Wingman?

Thank you for your replies,

Wingman? Well, being someone who flys Z-95's a lot, I tend to K-Turn like it's 1999.

I'm looking at flying the three TAPs together. Wingman is there to shed the stress.

I do, however, like the look of this -

A lot.

Ah okay. I find the TAP can often get by without K-turning a ton.

As long as you're coming in on an angle, 1-hard into a boost might get you the angle you're looking for.

I find more often than not that the K-Turn helps to create a "kill box" a lot easier. But having said that, I really do need to learn how to fly the TAPs properly.

I am very new to X-Wing and right now tend to lean rebel, but I love the look of the TAP and think it will be a main part of my first Imperial list. I had a similar build to zerotc's with the sienars. However, mine had Soontir instead of Carnor and concussion missiles instead of homing missiles. I like the concussion missiles for the dice modification aspect. With the guidance chips and average dice, you should be able to score 4 hits somewhat regularly, I think (as a newb, I'm not 100% sure on all the probabilities yet).

I love the idea of Carnor here though as his ability makes the concussion missiles have a pseudo-homing effect by denying evade/focus tokens while he's in range 1.
