Utilizing Mindlink

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

What kind of mindlink squads can you come up with? Here's mine:

Palob Godalhi + Attanni Mindlink + Blaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Moldy Crow
Contracted Scout + Attanni Mindlink + Plasma Torpedoes + Extra Munitions + R5-P8 + Guidance Chips
Guri + Attanni Mindlink + Flechette Torpedoes + Autothrusters

I would have put Deadeye in there, but I don't have that upgrade card.

Here's me flying it (and sucking).

I played a list very similar to that twice last night and won. At one point I had 4 focus on Guri :)!

I want to try this.

Ndru

VI

Homing Missiles

Stims

Chimps

Manaroo

Mindlink

K4

R5-P8

Guri

Mindlink

Thrusters

Virago

SJ

Cloaking Device

99 points

Not extremely competitive but rather fun concept.

IG-88 B and D each with Mindlink, FCS, HLC, Feedback Array, Autothrusters, IG-2000 title.

With Manaroo? The only way I see that as possible unless I am missing something.

Manaroo is a great carrier for Mindlink. I had a similar list to the OP but using a slaver instead of the CS:

=======================
Return Of The Guri Fury
=======================
100 points
Trandoshan Slaver (34)
YV-666 (29), Zuckuss (1), Dengar (3), 4-LOM (1)
Palob Godalhi (28)
HWK-290 (20), Attanni Mindlink (1), Dorsal Turret (3), Outlaw Tech (2), Cloaking Device (2)
Guri (38)
StarViper (30), Attanni Mindlink (1), Virago (1), Autothrusters (2), Sensor Jammer (4)
I'm not sold on the loadout on Palob, but I wanted to experiment with a few things. Probably end up switching out the tech and the cloaking device for Moldy Crow and Blaster Turret, or MC and Dorsal with a 1 point crew.

4fox100: I tried Manaroo, Guri and Kato Leachos. Kato steals a wingmans focus and the wingman gets it right back via mindlink. I stopped using the z-95 because its to squishy in that list alone.

Deepspace5: Yup. Manaroo was fleeing with one hull left, she took a focus every time and passed it on to Guri who was tailing Chewbacca :). Best thing is Manroo gets the focus right back. I really like mindlink, I had a lot of funny and interresting games with it.

I've been running various linked combinations of Guri, Kaa'to and 4-LOM to good effect. I usually throw Outlaw Tech on 4-LOM so I have another way to gain focus even if I'm stressed.

DailyRich: How well has 4-LOMs dial worked, there is an awfull lot of reds?

I'd imagine that's part of the beauty of the mind-link. He can gain a stress token even if he doesn't do a red maneuver.

But he can also really easy give a stress to everybody else.

Well mindlink makes it possible to put more focus tokens on the table at the risk of consistently having stressed ships. So what builds work great with more focus tokens and what builds have plenty of free EPT slots open.

I was thinking of Serissu with TPV and mindlink and have Katoo Lecheroes (that Z-95 that no one plays) with bodyguard. Serissu will likely have 2 focus tokens and Katoo could spend a focus to give Serissu an extra agility die or if needed pull of an extra focus token from a nearby scyk.

Aight, so here's my not so secret list I've created.

• Guri (StarViper) 33 Points
- Attanni Mindlink
- Autothrusters
• Kaa’to Leeachos (Z-95 Headhunter) 16 Points
- Attanni Mindlink
• Palob Godalhi (HWK-290) 27 Points
- Attanni Mindlink Twin Laser Turret
Tansarii Point Veteran (M3-A “Scyk” Interceptor) 24 Points
- Attanni Mindlink
- “Heavy Scyk” Interceptor
- “Mangler” Cannon
100 Points total - 'Mind Fives'
So, all these guys are Pilot Skill 5. With the Mindlink, this is VERY important. It lets you manage stress you suffer, lets you correctly choose K-Turning and either deal with it next round or perform greens that round and get your actions. Guri gets the knife fighting and Focus token, Palob steals it from your enemy and draws fire, Kaa'to can take a token from someone who only has 1 Focus and instantly give it back, and the Tansarii feeds Evades to Kaa'to and provides a punch with the Mangler cannon.

I find it to work great in a 5 Scyk swarm with a smattering of cheap cannons

DailyRich: How well has 4-LOMs dial worked, there is an awfull lot of reds?

He has six red maneuvers -- Hard 1, Bank 3, 3K and 4K -- to only five greens. But his ability lets him pawn off a stress token to someone else during the end phase. As long as Guri and Kaa'to avoid red maneuvers, I usually have 4-LOM use Advanced Sensors to take an action (usually Evade), then do a red with Outlaw Tech on board to gain a Focus (which gets passed along to anyone who doesn't already have one). Then everybody gets stressed. Then I have Kaa'to swipe a Focus from somebody (who gets it right back thanks to the Mindlink if that was their only one). If Guri is in close, she gets another one (which can Mindlink in case someone managed to come out of all this without a Focus already). I was so reliably getting two Focus tokens on my ships, I eventually ditched Glitterstim from the build because I never had to use it.

I haven't flown it yet, but I'm going to try giving 4-LOM the Mist Hunter title, Cloaking Device and Stygium Particle Accelerator for some defensive flexibility.

I manage to win a small tournament (8 players and not very meta-ish) with my mindlink list:

It's Manaroo, Palob, Kaa'to and Black Sun Ace, all with Attanni Mindlink. Kaa'to has concussion missile and GC, Palob has Blaster Turret and Boba, and I put Feedback Array on Manaroo to try to deal with Ace. You can find the Batrep at the forum.

I like to "demonstrate" my build in the first round by doing the following:

Manaroo moves and focus (everyone has focus)

Rest of them move and focus again (Everyone except Manaroo has 2 focuses)

At the combat phase, Kaa'to will steal one focus from Manaroo, which gave back a focus to her.

Manaroo passes her focus to Palob, regaining the focus.

Usually for the first encounter, my squad would have at least 1 focus on them, and at most 4 if them are in the cross-hair of enemy ship. The trick of the build is to manage stress. Only one of your ship may K-turn each round. Luckily two of them: Manaroo and Palob either don't care or can't. It's very fun and sometimes stressful to fly.

Another trick with Manaroo is for her to acquire a TL on enemy ship, and passes it to whoever in the best position to utilize that TL. She can also minimize the effectiveness of FCS for the opponent.

been having a lot of fun and doing very well with this
