Hehe, Love that image Managarmr. I'm thinking I will start by focusing a bit on Rebels, And then buid a bit on the Imperials. I have a friend who plays Scum and the people he plays against mostly play Empire, So I'm starting on Rebels, but will also expand Empire a bit, but I think I will wait with Scum untill later. The game seems realy fun, I only got to play it once so far, Tried the original Core Set against a guy in the local gaming club who never played before either, He rage quit and said the game was dumb cus my X-Wing managed to shoot down both his Tie-Fighters.. xD
New player, Anyone have any tips on what to get?
I decided to go on what looked cool, So I orderd the The Force Awakens Core set, Plus a K-Wing and a Inquisitors Tie. That will give me (With the original Core Set that I already have) 1 X-Wing, 2 Tie-Fighters, 1 new X-Wing, 2 new Tie-Fighters, 1 K-Wing and 1 Inquisitors Tie. Thats a good start right? I hope, They look cool atleast xD
If all you have currently is the OT core. Next buy should be the TFA core.
When first starting out the best advice I got from the forums was 'Buy 2x core sets' that way when you're playing with buddies you don't have to be passing back and forth the movement sticks. Also the all important '4th dice' for when Defending at Range 3 with 3 Agility or Attacking at Range 1 with 3 Attack or some Torpedoes and Missiles at whatever Range.
After a second Core, IF you're not jumping straight into the competitive scene, whatever ships/pilots you think are 'Cool'.
X-Wing / TIE Advance for ANH.
Falcon (YT-1300) / Slave 1 (Firespray-31) for Large Bases and ESB/ROJ.
Outrider (YT-2400) / Starviper for Shadows of the Empire.
X-Wing, A-Wing, E-Wing for X-Wing Novel Series.
VCX-100 / TIE Advance Prototype for SW Rebels animated series.
Just to name a few ships and where their 'coolness' may come from.
One important thing to note is avoid the Scum & Villainy set as an Early Purchase. It's more worthwhile for purchase AFTER you own a Rebel Y-Wing, HWK-290, and Z-95 and a Firespray-31.
Also avoid EPIC ships early until you've collected a decent sized standard list or are taking the plunge into a specific Faction.
---
Depending on what faction you plan on starting right away you have a number of options to make quick 100pt lists.
Rebels:
Core, X-Wing, YT-1300 = an early HSF list (Han Shoots First)
2 X-Wings and a Named YT-1300
Empire:
2x OT Core, TIE Fighter, TFA Core = modified 7x TIE Fighter swarm
Howlrunner, then salt to taste...
-or-
OT Core, TFA Core, TIE Interceptor, Imperial Aces = Soontir Fel.
Arc-Dodging goodness, and Soontir Fel.
-or-
OT Core, TFA Core, TIE Fighter, (anything else) = Mini-Howl Swarm + Ace
Scum:
S&V set, Firespray-31, Starviper = Most Eisley Cantina?
If you really want to start S&V I've not much to help you with. I've honestly picked up S&V for the BTL-A4 Title and the Starviper for Autothrusters. And for nostalgia from Shadows of the Empire on the N64.
---
Although there are 3 lists of possible openings for the Empire. The reason for it is primarily focusing on the TIE Swarm or mini-Swarm 4-8 TIEs. The other route is to go 'arc-dodgers' with Push the Limit (PTL) Interceptors.
With 2x Core you've got 4x TIEs so you're already have a Mini-Swarm. So from there you already have a base to expand the Swarm or add an Ace.
Anyways, I appear to have gone on quite the rant.
Welcome to the game and forums.
The biggest thing first is, what faction do you want to play?
Friendlies usually allow you to proxy upgrade cards, so dont worry about them too much. Use one of the many squad builders to create your lists, dabble in what goes with what. watch a tonne of YouTube vids out there and slowly create your collection...and you will create a collection... I havent been playing a great deal of time, but I have everything except Decimator and A Wing expansion.... And I was only going to get a few ships..
Once you gather your list that you like to play and you want to go tourney mad, look at what upgrade cards you need and either borrow, eBay or buy the relevant expansions you need. And thats pretty much how you get into X Crack...I mean X wing.....

Hope this helps, pass it on to your friends, the more X Wingers the merrier!
I'm not quite sure what faction I want to play, I kind of wanna build up both Rebels and Empire. Rebels because theys eem a bit easier to play, and my friend who I'l play against the most when he comes here for the summer plays Scum and normaly faces mostly Empire, And Empire because they got cool ships and if I build up both I might be able to get people here to play too.
