Hello everyone, I'm new and want to start X-Wing, I got the core set (The old one, Not the one from The Force Awakens) and I'd like to build up a bit on both Empire and Rebels so I can play against either one but.. I dont know what to get next after the core set.. Anyone got any tips on good purchases for each faction?
New player, Anyone have any tips on what to get?
*sneaks in a small bump from page 3* Sorry for the bump!
Everything!
If you cannot deside what you like: just go wave by wave ![]()
Here is a list of alle waves
http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/X-Wing_Miniatures_Wiki
Buy the Force Awakens core set first. Then maybe a Decimator, the Millennium Falcon, rebel aces, imperial aces, and a few small ships you like ![]()
Hmm... I'm considering maybe getting the The Force Awakens Core set too.. For the extra dice, And i hear the damage deck in that one is good to have and it would give me some extra ships.. After that.. I'm not sure.. I quite like the YT-2400 and the Decimator ships.. So I'm kind of considering trying to build lists arround them to start with.. Would that work out for a new player?
Do not play. It is addicting and you will have a lot of fun. Girl friend/wife will be secondary in importance. You will probably meet a lot of nice people that are hopelessly addicted just like you will become. So buy one of each of the starter boxes. Pick out which faction you most like and buy the two or three pack aces/veterans/most wanted and build from there. Do not worry about the money you will spend it is all worth it. Sorry for making it short but, have to pick out my fleet for tomorrow's game.
1) Get two cores (TFA and the original red one). You'll get extra dice, extra rulers, R2-D2 and BB-8. Totally worth it.
2) Get the ships YOU think look cool and think will be fun.
3) Worry about the other details later.
4) Also check eBay for lot deals, and there's a FB page that I've gotten good deals on (https://www.facebook...ingSwapandSell/)
Obligatory:

Seriously though, one of each core set is a great place to start. Tie/FO blister if you like the look of them gives you a great ship with Omega Leader and everything he needs. Inquisitor's Tie is great if you are into the Rebels cartoon.
I'd say go for the ships you like best. Personally, I'd be lost without an A-wing, B-wing, and Y-wing but that is just cuz I'm old.

This right here just about says it all.
Whether you plan on playing just for fun with friends at home, or getting into the tournament scene, my recommendation is the same. Find some ships that have meaning to you from watching the movies, reading the books or playing the video games. If none of that matters, then just go look at the models in their blister pack and buy what looks cool.
The bottom line is that until you have flown several types of ships against several types of ships, you won't know which ones you will have fun with or be competitive with.
For example, I love Imperials, but my play style is to charge right in with guns blazing. Problem with that is in general, Imp ships are very fragile and need to rely on superior maneuverability to make sure they do not get shot at and if they do they need to keep the incoming fire limited to long range pot shots. So I am much better with ships that just get in your face and blast you with a ton of dice like X-Wings or Kihraxz fighters, even though many people will say those ships are at a disadvantage against most other ships.
You will also find that many ships that are "not the best" in 100 pt tournament play really excel in 300 pt epic play or in the goal based scenarios that come with all the large expansions.
MHO:
Imps- Interceptor, phantom, 2x tie f/o, 2x tie fighter, firespray, shuttle
Rebels: x-wing, T70 x-wing, 2 x bwings, 2x a-wings, millenium falcon, k-wing, y-wing
Scum: firespray, 2x y-wing, most wanted, Jumpmaster, YV-666

Welcome to the game, and forum. We try not to bite much.
So I can tell you start go here http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/ and look through the ships and dials and prox with your starting ships to see what you like. Personally I did one of each ship to start and I have not regretted that as a starting point.
PS the Falcon is the best selling X-wing Ship followed up by the Tie Fighter both are excellent for list buying and playing. Also check out the https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/forum/294-x-wing-battle-reports/ as people tend to report on their games and what worked it is a great starting point for the game.
AGAIN WELCOME>
Edited by CubanboyYes buy Extra dice 2 sets per person if your sharing dice its good dice for each person. It was said above 1 extra core set is a great idea, If you want to run 6 F/O Tie Fighters or normal Tie Fighters or 3 T-70 having 3 core sets is an excellent place to start as those lists are really strong (the T-70 replacing the T-65) and have been since X-wing started, there not going to go away anytime soon.
For new players, bigger boxes tend to help more:
TFA core set
Millenium Falcon
Imperial Veterans (will be out in a month)
Tie FO expansion
Try those for now.

Both are good for their factions.
I really recommend Decimator to new players.
You will get everything (or most everything) eventually.
But for now, just buy ships that you like. You'll get some good upgrades and figure out what play style suits you. My suggestions: get both the imperial and rebel aces expansions when you can--good value and good upgrades. Get the most wanted pack. (I'd also second purchasing the new core when you can)
Some of my favs:
Imperial: phantom, defender, tie f/o, bomber, shuttle, decimator
Rebel: t-70 xwing, Kwing, falcon
scum: jumpmaster, YV-666, y-wing expansion (as long as you have the most wanted), star viper, mist hunter
If you really get into the game, you'll end up buying most, so start with the ones the appeal to you.

I was going to say the Ace Boxes including Most Wanted are all excellent to start with as they give a lot of option for the game. I can very much Say the Mist Hunter should be at the bottom of the list when purchases as the ship is very much not good....
Edited by CubanboyWhen I started out I stayed away from Scum until I felt like I had some good variety in Rebel and Imperial first.
The Decimator with 2 TIES and 2 TIE F/O is a lot of fun to fly. If you buy Decimator with the two cores, and get the Falcon on top of it, that's a great matchup.
welcome to the game!
(Shameless plug incoming
)
We actually just put out a podcast that talks about making your starting purchases in the game. Check out "A Larger World" podcast as well as our local website for more details. The whole thing is aimed at newer players and could be a big help getting you into the game.
Let us know if there's any other details you're interested in!
Once upon a time this question had some relatively easy answers.
Core Set + X-Wing (more pilots) + Falcon would give you the ships for a fairly effective squadron on the Rebel side.
Core Set + TIE Fighter (for Howlrunner plus other pilots) + another big box (Aces or Firespray) would get you ships although here that second Core for more TIE Fighters became highly recommended.
Now things are so much more complex. Getting both core sets is a good idea (two of the original cores was recommended in the day) for the fuller set of dice and extra templates plus it's ships are generally cheaper as a whole. After that the sky is the limit although if you are looking to get into 100 point tournament worth squads it generally takes more than it did back in Wave 2-3.
Next, go to the pinned entry "Index of Useful Links" and start reading up on stuff. I don't think it's been updated recently, but Majorjuggler's "New player starter list guide" gives you an excellent background in how to start making ships work well together. Osoroshii's flight school is a brilliant introduction of how to move on the table
Welcome to X-wing Miniatures
! You'll find lots of cool people to ask questions if you have any, and lots of old posts with fantastic information (I use goggle search for questions and pick the search results that end up here myself
).
While it is a somewhat arbitrary and difficult question to answer, as you will get many different answers, I will try to offer my 2 bits worth. Boba Rick had a good suggestion of just sticking to Rebels & the Empire first as while I do love Scum & Villainy myself (I collect all three factions) they are more "complicated" in the sense that they are not your plain vanilla brand (not to say the Rebels or the Empire don't have fun or really cool stuff!). I would further add that you should get a second core set - the Force Awakens version - as this has the new damage deck, plus the new versions of the TIE fighter and X-wing from the new trilogy rolling out.
A warning that X-wings can get very expensive (and very addictive
) very quickly. So if you want to be more conservative, why not stick with the "cannon" ships first for Rebels or Empire, and just start with one ship each new purchase (one y-wing, or one TIE Advanced, etc...) that way you can see how much you like it before buying two (or three, or four
) copies each. This will give you a nice variety without breaking the bank. There are some really good deals on Ebay on some lightly used stuff, and on the link within this forum too (I don't remember the link, sorry). If you do want to break out and try some "EU" (extended universe) stuff, than I would try the TIE Phantom (a very cool and fun ship to fly) or the K-wing. The nice thing is X-wing Miniatures is not going away anytime soon, and is indeed expanding all the time (good news for us
). Hope that helps, welcome again, and God bless
.
I think I'l buy the The Force Awakens Core Set aswell for the extra ships and dice and the new damage deck. And then.. Hmm... Lets see.. What ships do I like the looks of..? I realy like the looks of the Decimator and the YT-2400.. Most of the Imperial small ships look nice and of the Rebels I like the K-Wing, Y-Wing, X-Wing, and Headhunter best.. I dont like the B-Wing or E-Wing at all. I know the B-Wing is super iconic, but I always found it ugly.. xD
All of it. As soon as you are able.
I delved rather quick into S&V, but the I play with my kids, and I like repainting.
And you have been warned:
